This path for Barbarians symbolizes a deep and ancient bond between the warrior and the mystical pseudodragon. Those who walk the Path of the Dragonheart are not only fierce combatants but also share an unbreakable bond with their pseudodragon companions. This bond grants them unique abilities and strengths, making them a formidable duo on the battlefield. Their journey is a testament to the fusion of primal rage and the mysterious powers of dragons.

Pseudodragon Binding Ritual

At 3rd level, you unearth an ancient ritual that establishes a bond with a pseudodragon. This intricate rite takes 8 hours to perform, at the end of which, a pseudodragon, touched by your dedication and spirit, becomes your loyal companion.

Traits

Magic Resistance. The pseudodragon has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Limited Telepathy. The pseudodragon can magically communicate simple ideas, emotions, and images telepathically with any creature within 100 ft. of it that can understand a language.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: your attack modifier to hit, reach 5 ft., one target you can see. Hit: 1d4 + PB piercing damage.

Sting. Melee Weapon Attack: your attack modifier to hit, reach 5 ft., one target you can see. Hit: 1d4 + PB piercing damage, and the target must make a Constitution saving throw against 8 + your Constitution modifier + proficiency bonus or become poisoned for 1 hour. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the target falls unconscious for the same duration, or until it takes damage or another creature takes an action to wake it.

Over the course of 1 minute, you can attune your senses to the pseudodragon's, allowing you to perceive through its senses for up to 10 minutes. During this time, you are considered blinded and deafened with regard to your own senses.

In combat, the pseudodragon shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. The only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are incapacitated, the pseudodragon can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge.

The pseudodragon remains your companion until it is reduced to 0 hit points, until you perform the ritual to bond with a different pseudodragon, or until you die. If the pseudodragon is slain, you can perform the ritual again to establish a bond with another pseudodragon after a 7-day mourning period.

Draconic Synergy

At 6th level, as your bond with your pseudodragon deepens, its prowess in battle enhances, mirroring your own ferocity. When you land a critical hit on a creature, your pseudodragon becomes infused with a surge of power. The next melee attack it makes before the end of its next turn is made recklessly. This grants the pseudodragon advantage on the attack roll, but attack rolls against it also have advantage until the start of its next turn. If this reckless attack hits, it is treated as a critical hit.

Pseudodragon Evolution

At 10th level, your continued journey and the countless battles you've faced together cause your pseudodragon to undergo a magical transformation.

  • The pseudodragon's size becomes Medium, its hit points increase by an additional 2 per barbarian level, its movement speed increases to 30 feet from 15 feet and its Sting attack now deals 1d8 damage instead of 1d4.
  • As a reaction, when you are targeted by an attack, your pseudodragon can interpose itself, granting you half cover against the attack. If the attack still hits, the pseudodragon can choose to take the damage instead of you.

Dragon's Fury

At 14th level, The intensity of your rage becomes so potent that it empowers your pseudodragon, driving it to greater heights of power.

  • While you are raging, the pseudodragon's melee attacks deal two extra damage dices.
