🏴‍☠️ 🦜🔑 Ahoy mateys! It's Captain Blackwhisker, the terror of the tides and the plunderer of the vast blue. Now, I've seen a fair share o' treasures in me time, but this recent find... it's a tale worth tellin'!

So there I was, sifting through the loot of a recent raid, when me eyes catch the glint of somethin' unusual. Not gold, not silver, but an aged bronze key, elegantly curved, with a cerulean disk that seems to hold the very essence of the sea. And at its heart? A crimson jewel that would make any buccaneer's heart skip a beat.

"Blimey! What have we here?" says First Mate Stubtoe, tryin' to snatch it away with his greedy fingers. But I'm quicker. "A key to the heart of a beautiful maiden?" jests Boatswain Crookednose. "Or perhaps, to yer mother's diary?" Laughter fills the ship's deck.

Not one to let curiosity simmer, I decide to give it a whirl on an old, dusty chest we'd been haulin' around, having failed to pick its lock. The key slid in smooth as butter on a hot biscuit, and the lock clicked open.

And what lay inside? I'll let yer imagination run wild, but let's just say the crew's jaws dropped faster than an anchor in shallow waters! Silver and gold coins, gem-encrusted goblets, and more treasures than we could've hoped for.

"P'raps it's cursed," whispered Powder Monkey Scrawny Sam, eyes wide as saucers.

"Or blessed," smirked Gunner Blind-Eye Beth, fingers twitching towards her pistol, eyes (or rather, eye) gleaming with mischief.

To this day, none aboard the Salty Serpent know the true origins of this enigmatic key. But we're not complaining! After all, every pirate dreams of more treasures than they can fathom, and it seems this key might just be our ticket.

So if ye see a ship on the horizon, sails billowing, flying the Jolly Roger, steer clear, for Captain Blackwhisker and his miraculous key might just be coming for ye... and yer treasures! 🏴‍☠️ 🦜🔑

Treasure Key

Wondrous Item, very rare

Fashioned from lustrous, aged bronze, this exquisitely crafted key emanates an aura of ancient wonder. Its bow is graced with a cerulean disk of turquoise, centered by a matte crimson jewel

Treasure Conjurer. The Treasure Key has the power to unlock any concealed room or chest, provided no living creature is currently inside. Upon unlocking, the room or chest fills with valuables. The larger the space, the greater the quantity of treasures, though the overall value remains relatively consistent across sizes. The specifics of the treasures are at the GM's discretion, but general guidelines are as follows:

Gargantuan. This sprawling room is filled with heaps of copper and silver coins, amassing a total of 800,000 copper pieces (cp) and 50,000 silver pieces (sp). Amidst the coins, there are various bronze and iron decorative pieces. However, strategically placed throughout are 100 artworks worth about 50 gp each, 40 gemstones valued at 50 gp a piece, and a singular ancient ornate vase that is appraised at 2,000 gp.

Huge. This grand vault contains 70,000 sp and 7,000 gp. Neatly stacked are beautifully embroidered silk robes and tapestries with an accumulative worth of 1,500 gp. Encased in a glass container at the center of the vault is a beautifully crafted necklace adorned with sapphires, priced at 1,500 gp.

Large. Within this spacious chamber, there are six chests, each filled with 1,000 gp. Along the walls hang several pieces of armor and weapons adorned with intricate designs, worth about 4,000 gp in total. Nestled on a pedestal in the center of the room is a golden crown embedded with small diamonds, valued at 2,000 gp.

Medium. The medium-sized room has 6,500 gp neatly arranged in stacks. Displayed on shelves are various magical components, rare ingredients, and alchemical substances worth another 2,500 gp. In the center, a small ornate box made of mahogany and ivory holds a pair of gold earrings set with rubies, valued together at 1,000 gp.

Small. Inside the chest is a mound of 8,000 gp. Beside the gold, wrapped in a silken cloth, is an intricately carved ivory statuette of an ancient deity, radiating a soft glow, and worth 2,000 gp.

Tiny. This tiny box holds 25 platinum pieces (pp), equivalent to 2,500 gp. Resting alongside the platinum is a flawless diamond ring in a gold setting, which has been appraised at 7,500 gp.

When using the Treasure Key, the valuables that appear within a room or chest are inversely proportional to the existing contents of that space. The key's magic is attuned to the space's capacity, ensuring that the generated wealth doesn't overflow or break the confines. As such, if a space is already filled or contains valuable items, the treasures produced by the key will be reduced in quantity and overall value.

Scale of Reduction.

  • Completely Empty (100% Capacity): As per the descriptions above (full 10,000 gp worth).
  • Minimally Occupied (75% Capacity): Treasures generated will be worth approximately 7,500 gp.
  • Moderately Occupied (50% Capacity): Treasures generated will be worth approximately 5,000 gp.
  • Heavily Occupied (25% Capacity): Treasures generated will be worth approximately 2,500 gp.
  • Nearly Full (10% or less Capacity): Treasures generated will be worth approximately 1,000 gp.

The best results are always achieved in spaces that have been cleared and readied to receive the key's magical bounties.

Vanishing Act. After the Treasure Key is used to unlock and fill a room or chest, it dissolves into a fine mist, vanishing completely. The key cannot be restored, recovered, or replicated by any known magical means, including the wish spell. The key leaves behind no physical trace, serving as both a boon for the lucky user and a tantalizing mystery for those who hear tales of its wonders.
