In the cavernous lairs beneath the waves, where the sun's touch fades and ancient secrets slumber, emerges a relic of unparalleled mystery: the Depthstrider Greaves. Legends speak of their creation, a bond forged between the mightiest of sea creatures and the land dwellers who dared to seek their guidance.

Those brave enough to don this artifact speak of an arduous ritual, a pact sealed beneath the moonlit waves, uniting the wearer's soul with the ancient spirits of the ocean deep.

But who was the first? Whispers amongst the sea foam tell of a legendary guardian of both land and sea, a being who traversed oceanic abysses and coastal shores with equal ease. With the full Tidal Pact set adorning their form, they were a force of nature, an embodiment of the sea's relentless power and majesty.

Tidal Pact Armor

Armor (half plate), very rare (requires attunement)

This armor, bathed in deep sea hues, feels like a constantly shifting tide against the wearer's body, echoing the eternal dance of the oceans.

Whenever you take damage from a melee attack, the armor r eleases a burst of pressurized water. The attacker must make a Strength saving throw (DC 17) or be pushed back 10 feet and be knocked prone.

Depthstrider Greaves

Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement)

These dark blue greaves, carved with intricate tidal patterns, emanate a power that feels inseparable from the ocean's deepest trenches and most mysterious caverns.

To attune to this artifact, you must first complete this ritual:

Seek out a secluded beach, where the moon's reflection can touch the shore undisturbed. The ideal time for this ritual is on a moonlit night, especially during a full moon. With eyes closed and palms raised to the moon, recite:

"Oh Ancient One of the Deep Blue,

Dragon of the Tides, wise and true.

I seek your bond, your strength, your might,

To be my guide through day and night."

While submerged in water, the forces of the deep bend to your very thoughts, granting you unparalleled control over the marine realm.

Marine Mastery. Engulfing currents and powerful undertows are at your beck and call. With a mere thought, you can shift the very currents of the ocean. As an action, you can attempt to move or manipulate any creature or object within a 90-foot radius. This ability has the following effects:

  • Aquaforce Grip. You can try to ensnare a Gargantuan or smaller creature in a swirling vortex. Engage in an ability contest using your Wisdom (or your spellcasting ability if you have one) against the creature's Strength. If you succeed, you move the creature up to 60 feet in any direction, including upwards, and they are encased in a swirling vortex of water, becoming restrained until the end of your next turn. On subsequent turns, you can use your action to maintain this grip, the creature making a new check to resist at the end of each of its turns.
  • Whirlpool's Call. As an action, you can form a massive whirlpool in a 30-foot radius centered on a point you can see. Creatures within that area must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 20) or be pulled 30 feet toward the center.
  • Deep Delve. You can attempt to move or manipulate objects weighing up to 10,000 pounds, shaping the water to carry, hurl, or intricately maneuver them. This allows for a range of actions, from barricading pathways with sunken debris to wielding colossal anchors as makeshift weapons.

Destroying the Depthstrider. To destroy these ancient greaves, one must summon the spirit of the sea creature from which they draw their power. Where light fails and pressure crushes, lies an ancient coral altar. Only upon this altar, with a song sung by voices of three sirens in unison, will the greaves dissolve, returning their power to the oceans from whence they came.

Wavebinder Gauntlets

Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement)

These dark blue gauntlets shimmer with a watery sheen, reflecting light as if looking upon the surface of a moonlit lake.

Varunastra's Call. While attuned and wearing these gauntlets, you can summon Varunastra, a mystical weapon made of water that can harden or change form based on your desire. Although an improvised weapon, it also takes on the characteristics of whichever form you choose, and you are proficient with Varunastra.

Watershape Bond. You can transform one magic weapon into Varunastra by performing a special ritual while you hold the weapon. This ritual takes 1 hour, which can be completed during a short rest.

Waterhaped Weapon. Once per turn when you attack, you can summon, dismiss, or transform Varunastra. The weapon can take the form of any melee weapon you are familiar with.

3-Set Bonus: Whispers of the Deep

Your bond with the water deity reaches its zenith. When submerged in water or during rainfall, time seems to slow for you,  allowing you to take two reactions instead of one until the start of your next turn. Furthermore, your attacks with Varunastra deal an extra 1d8 cold damage on a hit.
