Oh my gosh, I just got an email notification for this and had a surge of panic like WHAT, WHEN WAS THIS?, HOW DID I MISS A BTS LIVESTREAM?? Lmao I see what happened now.

SNBangtan

I'm late to the party so hopefully you know this by now but I feel like your early chat did such a disservice to j-hope by not telling you that he is THEE performer. Like it's just such common fandom knowledge that ARMYs leave BTS concerts j-hope-biased. He doesn't get as much camera time as others because he doesn't look for it. When he's on stage, he's playing to the live crowd and anyone who sees him live says they were blown away by his charisma and energy. I just hope I get to the part where you start seeing that there's a reason Suga says "j-hope is in charge of BTS' swag" and that in the k-industry he's regularly referred to as "The Performer of Our Generation."

Anonymous

So sad I missed the party! But I loved your response to Stray Kids!! YES! They are a bit dark, intense, their performances are insane… you should try the Kingdom Miroh performance and compare to the actual Miroh music video to see what I mean. It’s what drew me to them, they don’t shy away from the darkness and embrace it - in their lyrics, their music, their performances. Side Effects is perhaps the darkest and my all time favourite. I’ve seen a vid of RM reacting to Bang Chan accepting an award.. it was funny because all the BTS members went “oh? His English is so good?” Can’t wait to see you dive in on Lee Know… him and Seungmin have the same MBTI coincidentally. And that’s all I’ll say about my bias in SKZ. Changbin, I’m going to send you a secret link to a Kingdom Week episode where you’ll see what he’s like with everyone

Anonymous

I fell for Changbin when I saw him in the SKZ song camp where he was white boarding. My inner project manager was dancing with joy. He will be running a company one day. Han is an absolute Ace - he can’t do anything wrong. Except maybe play foot volleyball. And as for IN being cute. He’s an absolute performer. I am perhaps the most terrified of crossing him than anyone else in SKZ.

Will you at some point upload your reaction to Jungkook Euphoria + live ?

It was fun, thanks again for doing this! Your mom is very cool and you two are very similar :)

This was so fun! Your mom is so sweet. I’d like to offer a Stray Kids recommendation. I feel like you’d really get a good glimpse at their teamwork, individual personalities when not performing, and 3racha’s (Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han) leadership style while producing if you watched the intro to their second mini-album, I am Who. They talk about and show their process of creating and recording the tracks and reflect on what they each bring to the team. It’s nice to see Bang Chan talk about why he chose some of the members to be a part of the group too. It also helps situate you into their thematic approach to songwriting (it’s not always dark/aggressive like victory song). They do one of these for all of their albums, but this one is particularly special since they’re still so green and yet already so impressive: https://youtu.be/zaewsNubRY0. If you wanted to watch their most recent one for the latest album Noeasy, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/9e6cDBI6YpM.

Nicole

It was also really cool to see you react to something so recent. The Corden interview was literally filmed yesterday. A few hours ago (coincidentally during your livestream), Hobi posted a very nice message about his day yesterday and his thoughts and feelings. I’m linking the translation here just in case you’re interested in their written communication too. https://twitter.com/btstranslation7/status/1463572626970972172?s=21

Barbi Duarte

Your mum is so cool and perceptive . I loved the reaction /análisis of the BTS medley I agree it’s one of my fav performances too, their personalities really shined through

Jenny

It might be nice for you to react to a vlive as a full video as I know they're quite long for the live reactions. I still think the AMA's one is a good one, it's shorter than most (they're often over an hour) and it shows their personalities really well as they are all so comfortable with just each other https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZMipR9H5RU

Amy Hall

It would be so awesome if you reacted to some of the Stray Kids One Kids Room it really gives a clearer view of their personalities and what they think of each other

Anonymous

The Stray Kids performance you watch in this is actually part of a trio of performances by Ateez, Stray Kids, and The Boyz. They are all really interesting groups and all have interesting dynamics. Ateez does have very clear leadership roles sometimes so their group dynamic is interesting. The Boyz is a 11 member group so I’d really love to see you analyze their relationships. Edit: forgot you already did an Ateez video but I’d still really love for you to see the Boyzs performances and group dynamics

ashlyn

omg i loved the reactions with your mom and hearing her opinions and takes as well thank you for these!

For Stray Kids I recommend the Kingdom behind for the stage you watched (the blackpink cover one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBOdhW6LOBE You'll see how they work and practice together. Here are some music show performances, they're a bit simpler, less extravagant than the stages you've seen of them so far: Thunderous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlIfPogZ-No Back door: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_6QZ0pmA0o This one is a bit softer, not as intense and dark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKiX6nl4zNU This performance has a live audience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec87QElSyU0 And if you wanna get to know Lee know and changbin more: Here is Lee know's one kids episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhUMGfQCV94 Here is Changbin's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnk8uyNoQdo Here is a fanmade compilation of them together (Beware, they're a bit crazy): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdJkXAZFIkw And here are just some random other videos you could check out: Thunderous studio choom performance behind the scenes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d18M6nqn-Sk Skz talker episode 41 :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYd_pqIqLyQ

oddinry

a stray kids suggestion: han and lee know's two kids room from 2018! they're probably the closest two members in the group and i think i'td be cool for you to see their dynamic, and since you like han and want to know more about lee know i think you would like it!

J-Hope has insane stage presence!!!!!!!

Regarding James Corden's response, he did not apologize and I think the reason Namjoon overrode him with "appreciate your apology" was him just kind of demanding it of James by saying that we take all of your bumbling as an apology even if it isn't, or making it clear that he should have apologized to ARMY. I'm not sure if you caught James replying with "I DIDN'T" and then quickly realizing that's not a good thing to admit. Just for context, the reason people got so mad at JC is because everyone thought they had a good relationship with BTS and respected ARMY (they’ve been on the show many times, has written them an introduction for some big thing (time magazine maybe?), but he completely decided to disregard all of that just for two bad jokes. Saying that it’s surprising for BTS to be at the UN, while this was actually their third speech at the UN, they’ve been partnering with UNICEF for years on a big campaign, have donated millions to charity — all of which he must know, so he decided to ignore all of it and tried to belittle ARMYs as mindless teenage fans of a group of whom it’s surprising to speak at the UN. Additionally, being sexist and looking down on teenage girls has been a thing for too long (it’s not a bad thing to be a 15-year-old army, but he knows that ARMYs are very diverse in all ways). Additionally, him putting Jimin on the spot and demanding affection really made me feel uncomfortable, especially considering how unhappy Jimin seemed(!) with James, e.g., when James said he's one of the biggest bts fans on earth (although Jimin was the one who called James out last year for not listening to the album he was interviewing them for, so him claiming that is so disrespectful to actual armys who love and are devoted to bts, which I believe the boys feel similarly about). There are different responses among armys - some forgave James, some decided to follow Namjoon and just move on but didn't forgive him, some decided to do neither. It's really interesting overall that Namjoon's been not holding back as much with English interviewers this year, making it known when he thinks they're being asked stupid or disrespectful questions, defending armys (making it clear that we're not bots and people claiming that is just idiotic; that their shows are always! sold out; that asking them who they want to collab with is disrespectful because they are the ones people should want to collab with bc bts are the biggest in the game).

Aww, I loved how your mom joined in as well! Your interactions with eachother was so sweet💜. I loved watching you both enjoy yourselves. So sad I missed out on this livestream, but maybe next time☺️. Anyways, thanks for the awesome livestream! I'm glad that I can learn and have fun at the same time lol.

You know what Max, I really think your an ARMY now. Lol, but only if u want to be. U did a great job describing BTS members to her. Loved it💜!

Anonymous

The live stream was fun. Your mom seems like a very intelligent woman. I really liked her input and analysis on everything. For the James Corden thing, I also don't know what to think of him. I think you are right about him wanting to be loved. I'm not a communications expert, but based on what I have observed, I think he genuinely likes the boys. He's known them since 2017 when BTS was starting to get big in the west and he's kind of been involved and has watched as BTS has gotten bigger and bigger. In one of the behind the scenes videos on BangtanTV, the boys had mentioned Corden and how at ease they felt when they were on his show for the first time and how he did his best to make them comfortable. They were gushing praise. Also, prior to that interview, they had filmed a skit earlier together and based on the fancams of the recording (It hasn't been released yet), it doesn't seem like they dislike him. They looked like they were legit having fun and honestly, BTS are at a point of their career where they don't have to do all that extra stuff if they didn't want to. An interview would have sufficed. I think ARMY still has a grudge against him and still is feeling bitter, while BTS does not. I am not a fan of the joke James made, but I also don't think he made it with malintent. To me, he was making a 90s joke in the year 2021 and that stuff just doesn't fly anymore. However, they acknowledged it on the show, he got forgiveness from them, so hopefully, the situation will blow over. Anyway, I find the comment you made about Suga not doing eye contact interesting. I kind of agree, but I wonder if that's all that is? When it comes to choreography and other stuff as well, he doesn't like doing it either. My theory was the reason he didn't like making eye contact was because of a mixture of self-consciousness, discomfort, and shyness. The only time that I have seen Suga look someone in the eyes is when BTS use to do fan signing events. He would look the fans straight in the eyes and give them their full attention, talk, and interact with them. I recently found a compilation video of Suga doing fan signings and I was honestly surprised at how good he was at it. There was not a hint of discomfort anywhere. He was a natural. That's why I get confused about him. Is easier for him to do with strangers than with his bandmates who he knows way longer? Does he make an effort because it's his fans and so he pushes his discomfort to make sure they feel appreciated? I still don't have an answer for it. P.S. If you wanted to see the compilation I found of Suga doing fansign events just let me know. I don't think it was that long.

will you do blackpink’s netflix documentary pls?

Really liked your mother's questions, it was a great dynamic and very interesting.

Eleonora

Hi Max! Good video reaction as usual, it's very interesting to listen to what you think and what you see on a "communication level" (sorry, I'm not English). Fun fact to know: RM and Suga were the first two to join BTS and they said they learnt to get along with time, because they kept fighting in the earlier times because they are so different. Now they like to let everyone know how long they have been together in good and bad times, even in songs.

Bangtanlicious

Honestly we as a fandom have been called children and teen girls so much that it's not even funny as a joke, and death threats are never okay, but i notice how nobody but ARMY always speak up when BTS get daily death threats, so to see ppl hate on BTS for not being "mad enough" at the death threat James mentioned blows my mind. I really appreciate how BTS handled this bc in every single situation we have seen where ppl tried to make them look bad, the proof shows that they ALWAYS are so nice. It's really crazy and inspirational to see.

Anaïs

He is to me just a host, just that, it's his work to seem nice and welcoming but it's just business, acting or comedy, whatever we want to call it, and I don't blame him, it's his job but we got to remind ourselves, as fans, that to him, it's just business.

Anaïs

Thank you, I absolutely agree 100% with what you said, it was on point. 👌🏻

Monica

I debated on watching this because I have some serious feelings about the James Corden deal because of the death threats that were posted under James IG account under a friends post that had passed away. I hope you see the jokes that James did because I don’t think they were so bad that the man got death threats. I don’t know why BTS went back on the James Corden show but I think James is a nice guy because I wouldn’t have them on. I thought the interview was very cringy and if I was going to see it somewhere I’m glad it was here. I think a lot of Americans who post on James feed were really disgusted and since a lot of the comments had to remind Army that they were posting under a dead mans picture and I think James mentioned the death threats to make sure that BTS was aware which seems like they didn’t care. I think in this instance if it was Stray Kids Chan he would have said something to the fandom because he has before. He has said to Stays they are better than that. The amount of death threats BTS has had, you would think they would address it with their fandom. I think the James Corden thing got blown out of proportion due to language barrier and the American / British humor.

Anaïs

I think you would be interested to see their stage presence really stand out individually in medleys, solo performances, and in award shows (Korean), unfortunately the american awards shows are very short, so interactions and creativity are quite limited, the stage is quite small. To find out more about the personality on stage of the members that you still wonder about, I recommend you for a solo live performance: "Singularity" for V (Mix stage), "Epiphany" for Jin, "Just Dance" for J-Hope, "My Time" for Jungkook, BTS's MAMA 2019 isn't as amazing as other years (in the costumes or the scenery) but the camera work was pretty good this time around, so you can see their interactions with each other and with the audience. Afterwards, I recommend all the MAMAs of BTS, they always put the package for the awards shows, every year. Can't wait to see you react to another BTS RUN. Loved your mom's input too,

Hi Max I really love your videos. I don't want to be rude or anything but I know that pronouncing some of the Korean names can be hard. I thought I would give you a link to a video that teaches you how to pronounce the stray kids members names. Here's the link if your interested https://youtu.be/ytoS7BvvUY0. Hope you have a great day

taetaebear01 (Lindsey E.)

Hi max! I unfortunately joined the live way later than intended but I was so happy to catch everything I missed in this post. It was such a delight! I hope your mom comes back more, she was so fun and lovely ! I also love how you also now call jhope, “hobi”, haha falling further down the army tunnel ! I thought it could be fun for you to react to this clip : https://youtu.be/3-BB-a-t4k8 it’s from 2018 at a tv broadcast where they each performed an abridged version of their own solo from the love yourself album. I thought it’d be convenient to have them all in one place to watch, though it sounds like you were fortunate enough to already have caught euphoria before :)

Max Beaumont

Hey Stevie! Yeah -- I'm still not 100% sure about what the eye contact thing is all about with Suga. I'll keep a look out for it, but very interesting to hear your perspective. Appreciate you tuning in as always! And yes, I may contact you re: the Suga fansign compilation for future reactions :)

Max Beaumont

Thanks for joining either way! Haha slowly getting more comfortable down the BTS tunnel. Appreciate you sending me this link :)

Max Beaumont

It's uploaded right now for Platinum members, but I may share it with everyone sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Barbi Duarte

Frankly I think it got blown out of proportion too. I mean it wasn’t nice , but it’s the kind of bad joke that just makes me roll my eyes, besides I hate how all the good things get buried on the slightest mistake. On the other hand about people thinking the boys should say something I think people is asking too much out of them, specially since they’ve received serious death threats themself to the point of having to cancel concerts ; besides they are not the president of their fans, they can’t dictate how we act. I mean look at this whole thing, rm brought it up to show they are aware of it and that they are cool with James, to clear the air as he said, yet a lot of people are still mad, others are even more upset and others took it as as justification for sniper army. Like how can you interpret that ?! Think about all the times they’ve talked against sasaeng fans and solos yet there’s more everyday. The people who act like that don’t really care what BTS thinks on the matter they have their own motivations.

Melissa O

I’m never able to make these because they are in the middle of my work day, but always enjoy the rewatching, so thanks for making them available 🙂. I haven’t gotten fully through this rewatch yet, but I’ll get there 😂. I like James Corden second best to Jimmy Fallon, but watch neither regularly. I think he really didn’t mean to be offensive in his joke. He obviously knows ARMY is way more than 15 year old girls. He gets all the YouTube analytics telling him age ranges and countries etc. I think he just sorely misjudged how often ARMY has to defend themselves on this issue. It’s almost constantly when new people react to BTS for example it’s often prefaced with, “I’m not sure if I’ll like it, but I’ll give it a listen. I think this is generally for a bit of a different demographic than me.” ARMY is always kind in the comments to educate and reactor’s tend to discover it’s for everyone real quick. But it is a major point of defense, and I think James was just trusted by ARMY, so it was shocking to hear him, of all people, making jokes about the one subject ARMY is tired of having to defend. I, personally, think ARMY overreacted a bit, but I also completely understand why. And while James admitted how and where he made his mistake, and that he never actually meant any offense, the actual words “I’m sorry” would have probably gone a long way. You are right though. RM handled it PERFECTLY. So much respect for him as a leader. On a completely different topic. You did a pole on YT a while back for new groups and at one point Enhypen was way ahead. That may have changed, but if you are planning on reacting to them, I have a suggestion for first “interview”. They are SO young (ages 15-20) and only a year into their careers, so interviews without hosts, or the right hosts, tend to not show their personalities off best. This interview has a couple of older idols interviewing them and it’s a lot of fun. You can also have a lot to say about what the host do well to put them at ease as newbies. It’s just a suggestion though. And maybe Enhypen is not even in the works yet. But didn’t know where else to drop this 😁. https://youtu.be/Gl82Xe9bje0

Anonymous

i watched someone else react to this interview and immediately was very interested to see your take on it. james corden is def fake asf LMAO he doesn’t know their songs besides from the title tracks, though he claims to be the “biggest bts fan in the world”. this interview was really uncomfortable to watch bc of how over the top he was with the compliments, like nobody talks like that it felt very desperate, almost like he was panicking and rambling in hopes of getting back on bts’ good side. james also has a bad history with fame, he’s known to let it get to his head, always needing constant attention and, like u said, obsesses over being liked

Anonymous

I think this is the 1st time we may have different point of view here. James Corden is absolutely fake and. He pretended really hard to be part of the Army cause he saw the ratings the show racked when BTS was there. Btw every first talk show they dud was supposed to be very short, like with Ellen but when they saw the reaction from the fans they had to hop on in and ride the wave. It’s just like brands pretending to be stans on Twitter and calling us besties like we do not know now how community Managers wants us to believe we’re the same by using the same slang. Look the real issue is that they had a real established relationship with James Corden and we trusted him and BTS did too. But instead of taking accountability when his « harmless unfunny jokes » made at ARMYs expense qualified of 15 yo and BTS deemed unusual when they have been going and delivering speeches at the UN for 3 years straight in a row shows he’s only in it for the clout. And instead of taking accountability and doing pour job IMMEDIATELY he just refused to acknowledge he hurt anyone and thought he’d brush it for years under the carpet by just deleting the video from YouTube AND twitter and refusing to even address it. That was what infuriated BTS fans. We really trusted him. As much as you can trust anyone nowadays anyway but BTS has been used for clout and ARMY’s power too lany time. If he had immediately taken accountability, said it was a bad joked and that he’d be more cautious about laking shit hokes about people not even there it would’ve have gone so far. Also you’ve missed something: RM said « we APPRECIATE your apology » which wasn’t an apology but a succession of excuses made to make people feel bad for him, he didn’t accept it he said he appreciated it. Namjoon shouldn’t even have been the one to bring what was a huge issue in the 1st place (I didn’t inow about the dearh threats but I knew how everyone on Twitter told him to drop the « Papa Mochi » from his bio and how the rating for The late Late shop dropped really HARD in a matter of hours so much so that Google blocked the rating/reviews. Also if you go back to former interview with BTS and how James and Jimin and how they used to interact and how long it took Jimin, who doesn’t like to hurt people feelings, to say… I believe in you when Jales was holding his handcin an iron grip. Nah it doesn’t feel like Jimin actually forgave him or that it’s forgotten. Everything felt forced. Jamed looked like he was absolutely desperate for validation. Damn I used to love him as late show host more than Jimmy Fallon and Ellen But less than Stephen Colbert. Just objectively talking about them as show host, independently from BTS. But people say Jimmy is always too much now I feel that way about James Corden. Add to that the flops he’s got as an actor he really lost his likability, his freshness. This looked heavily scripted and forced and kuddos to Namjoon for being a true leader and acknowledging every member with a touch and or a word. They’re beside themselves from happiness as it was their 1st time seeing the ARMY live after 2 very long years. But this wasn’t it. I was really waiting for you to analyse thus but I ‘m really sorry I was disappointed though it’s also because you haven’t got any comparison to all the other instances they interacted both in US and from SK with BTS so you wouldn’t catch some signs but the huge read flags « we appreciate your apology » when Jales didn’t even apologize and his neck was oh so red, which was showing his true embarrassment of being called out on gis own show (since they got back on the media, Namjoon hasn’t been holding back between telling it straight in interviews he was here « no for the Ais, not the (ro)bots but the real fans » abd saying « of course we sold out » he’s been less of a mediators and acting much less oblivious to what he knows happens since he’s always on Twitter on his secret stan account and telling straight how it is without sugar coating it. I’m proud of him for standing up both for his members and his fans. Last things Jales was so painfully cringy corny and validation seeking I couldn’t watch past him complimenting Jimin working out. And from what I saw, eI do not condone any death threats let’s be clear and K wasn’t aware of it since I’m not on insta and do not follow him but from Army stan Twitter’s feedback, 80% are not buying it, 20% seem to think « if bts want to let it go then let us too go past it » and the most are like « let’s use him like he used us in the past, let him give BTS a great media platform but we do not forgive and do not forget ». A lot refused to actually watch it on YouTube and waited for reactors like you to not give him great audience.

I want to recommend this Vlive with Chan and Lee Know it was really fun it is from the 90th episode of Channie's Room (V Live that Chan does every Sunday). this a link to clips from it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptQYIk0-F0Y

I second these recommendations. Is the "I am Who" intro the where Changbin talks about his techniques for providing feedback to the Kids during the recording process? I watched it recently and thought Max might be interested in it as an example of how Changbin approaches coaching and feedback.

j a

james corden is absolutely fake. he has a very bad reputation and is known to be very rude and highly disliked in the industry. a quick search will support this. i’ve not cared for him way before bts were ever on his show, i care even less now.

Tanya

Fun to have your mom pop on! I enjoyed hearing her comments. I also liked watching the reaction with the group comments in real time. I am surprised no one mentioned that the Attack on Bangtan clip was in Japanese! Despite not singing in their own language they were very comfortable and having fun. I had never heard the Japanese version of the song so that was cool. Yeah these guys are so talented they are just dropping Japanese albums as well, even though they don’t need to do that.

Anonymous

Hi. First of all I really enjoy watching you "analyze" BTS. I am also trying to understand this phenomenon :) This interview I watched more times but it is hard to watch every time. JC is just too much. I felt bad for Jimin, he did not seem comfortable since JC seemed to use him as support to navigate the "hot waters", and at the end Jimin let out a deep sigh ... If you pay attention when RM says "we appreciate your apology", JC almost finishes saying: "but I didn't apolog..." . RM really defused the bomb. I think army had such a big reaction because they trusted JC, and they way he said those jokes were a bit of a betrayal. It's like he wanted to trigger some reaction at all cost, . Of course it blew out of proportion, but he did not try to calm the waters in any way. I actually took it personally and felt offended when he said he is the "biggest fan on planet earth" ... he is a fan of all the views he gets from the army, and he is proving it all through December by showing small recordings of BTS and not at the announced time, so that armys have to watch his whole show before getting to the bts parts.

Anonymous

I think all of this needs to be taken less seriously. James is a comedian. He has a late night show. It's his job to make jokes and capture attention. Also a lot of these jokes are written for him by other people - they have writers. His joke was not funny and it was in poor taste but it wasn't a huge crime. It's not like he personally attacked the group. I honestly doubt BTS cared at all.

Anonymous

Also I personally feel that the whole thing was scripted. Of course they already discussed that RM would bring up the issue to "clear the air". They would have agreed on that. And Jimin's response was probably also scripted - like you can hear RM saying "his answer is...." when Jimin paused before answering. And James put down the paper he was holding in preparation for the hug with Jimin. So I think they planned it all to show some sense of unity between James and BTS. At the end of the day, that Car Pool Karaoke with BTS was really helpful for BTS in getting a lot of attention in the US and many people became their fans or at least started appreciating them as people. So I'm sure BTS has a good relationship with the show. If they were really offended, why would they even return to the show and make so many appearances?

Lindsay B.

You have to remember that although they are working on their English outside of RM the don’t speak or understand English well so if they appear “uninterested” it feels like a blanket statement that’s used for people who don’t understand the language. I’m not trying to be mean. I just think we have to remember they sit and wait for the translation in their inner ears before responding

Lindsay B.

I really enjoy your videos and am new to your Patreon. I’m a behavioral analyst so I love your perspective. I do wish you wouldn’t focus on the introverted personalities as negative and the outgoing ones as positive. Although I respect your opinion, I myself am introverted and find it hard to converse with new people but I’m stil, a deep thinker and very empathetic

Max Beaumont

Thanks for the comment! Glad you’re here :) I certainly don’t think having an introverted personality is a negative thing… at all. If I came off that way, that certainly was not my intention. Perhaps though, I do focus more on commentating on outgoing personalities.

The James Corden fiasco is fascinating to me. It's a great example of the way media systems operate through multiple channels (e.g., TV, social media) and the way content producers and celebrities are shaped by audiences, even as audiences are shaped by media producers. Of course JC and RM had to "clear the air" on the show. There had to be a public reconciliation of some sort because of the sheer amount of audience pushback. The conversation was important to (1) "save face" for both parties involved in the conflict (2) regain the support of audiences (3) establish control of the narrative and (4) set BTS and JC up for future collaborations (money-making media events!) Still, people seem overly concerned about whether the apology was "real" or whether he "meant it." From my viewpoint, the authenticity of the apology doesn't matter because we, as audiences, will never know and because authenticity is always a matter of performance in contexts like these. After reading the comments on this post and seeing the conflict happen in digital space in real-time, I'm interested in the question: How do audiences perceive regret and reconciliation in scripted mediated communication? Clearly, folks have a lot of feelings and differing perspectives!

Angel Williams

you completely missed Jin being unusually quiet after he answered his question.

hi, i can't access the video

Max Beaumont

Currently all my live reactions that are hosted on Vimeo are temporarily down. I'm working on getting them back up ASAP -- hoping they will be back up tomorrow! Sucks though. I'm sorry that they're down at the moment. Stay tuned.

SNBangtan

I'm watching and really wishing I was here earlier because I think your fan community is doing you a little dirty with regard to Hobi. I'm hoping you get to see soon why we call him the Performer of our Generation. No one can match his ability to control the tone of the space he's in, his ability to command attention, and the way he engages and validates everyone around him (whether he's in a room with Bangtan or a stadium with 60,000 ARMYs). And he's also really professional and known as the second leader of the group. He's tidy and organized and always on time and he's incredibly affectionate and validating--I just think it's such an interesting combination of characteristics. Everyone sees the energy and infectious joy first but I'm really excited for you to start seeing all the other stuff.

No one is doing me dirty lol. But yes, can’t wait to see some more of Hobi performing!

whoa. i'm just catching up on these, and i was actually at the recording for their interview with james corden! it was great. i like your interpretations of james's intentions and their responses. i would generally agree, and i know you questioned whether some of the hesitation especially from like jk and tae were because they werent fully trusting of james or maybe just a language difference or what. and i think it's both tbh. obviously the language and even culture differences matter, but that bleeds into their own personalities and reactions to him too. anyway, this was fun! and your mom is great!

Max, I love your reactions and interpretations. I especially agree with how you see RM. I recommend the only episode BTS ever appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Not because it was a good interview—in fact it was one of the most cringey, awful interviews she’s ever done. Ellen just didn’t know what to do with them and came off as rude. But a moment came that would make you fall in love with RM just a little more. Ellen pulled one of her trademark pranks, having someone jump out of a box and damn near scared everyone to death. (Hobi even fell on the floor). It was absolutely not funny at all and the most easily startled, Jin and Hobi, are probably yet to recover. But bless RM—his reaction was to turn in his seat and check on all the members (most of whom were clutching their chests)—he subtlety and quickly touched all of them in reassurance and said something in Korean to them that I imagine was some version of “you ok?” And side eyed Ellen with a glare. RM at his leader-best. ❤️
