We could never have anticipated that a sequel to a Shrek spinoff from 11 years ago would turn out to be one of the most impressive animated films I've seen in years. Yet, here we are with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish—a delightful surprise in every aspect, offering an exhilarating new adventure featuring everyone's beloved sword-wielding feline!

The landscape of animated films has transformed significantly over the past decade, and naturally, this film boasts a substantial visual upgrade from its predecessor. Rather than opting for the expected route of heightened detail and crispness, the film embraces a stylistic approach that proves to be incredibly successful. Every frame bursts with vibrancy, resembling paintings poised to leap off the screen. The film's decision to alter the frame rate during thrilling action sequences not only showcases creativity but also results in a visually stunning spectacle.

Despite more than a decade passing since Antonio Banderas last portrayed Puss, he effortlessly slips back into the boots as if no time has passed. This role remains one of his most iconic, and his voice performance serves as a powerful reminder of why. Great to have Salma Hayek back! Florence Pugh is a fantastic addition to this cast and John Mulaney is as well. Wagner Moura takes it to another level, breathing life into one of Dreamworks most genuinely terrifying villains with an exceptional performance. Those blood-colored, glowing eyes and that spine-chilling whistle are nothing short of nightmare-inducing. That character had an immediate impact! Which can be hard to pull off in any medium.

The film skillfully explores heavy themes such as coming to terms with mortality and appreciating the life one has been given. Presented in a manner accessible to children yet rich with depth for adults, the movie's lessons may be somewhat predictable but consistently land with sincerity, making them impactful and meaningful.

In summary, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a sequel we never knew we desired. If this level of quality and creativity is still within the franchise's grasp, count us in for a third film or at least a green light on Shrek 5 :)

Banana Hammocks

One of my all time favorites. Infinitely rewatchable too

Natacha Pedersen

So excited for this, I'll be watching it for the first time with you guys!

Patricia

This was phenomenal! I knew Oak would have to say A LOT here. I told you guys you will need a new scale if Puss 1 already was a 4.8 ;-) By the way: Wagner Moura (the Wolf) is the actor that played Pablo Escobar in Narcos.

Katie

I could watch this on repeat all day, that’s how good it is

I just loved this movie so much as much as I loved your reaction! I saw it in theatres 3 times. It’s just my favorite animated movie. Please react to Shark Tale

Patrick Rivera

Gotta admit, when I first watched this movie I thought it was ok and didn't understand the hype around it, but watching it again with you guys made me realize how freaking good this movie actually is. I did NOT pay attention the first time lol And also... HOW do yall not know Olivia Coleman? She's a legend D:

GillyBean

Oh heck yeah, this is the best reaction i coulda hoped for on this. Y'all made me nearly choke cry when Answer lost it at the belly rubs hahaha AND again at the bleeps, I started seeing my own past lives flash before my eyes... XD

KamiGema

BY far one of the funniest and enjoyable reactions i have ever watched. I was laughing so hard at y'alls reaction that my fiance made me wait in the hallway until I "calmed down". Can you believe the gall!?!?

Ryan Bellefleur

Wow I wasn't expecting that, I honestly teared up 4 times throughout this movie. Having 2 huskies, and 6 cats myself (I know I'm nuts) this was so relatable on so many levels with the crazy cat house, the therapy dog and the stories of broken family. The musical sections weren't over done, the smooth transitions into low frame action scenes were amazingly done and the voice acting was top notch. On top of all of the overarching stories the movie blended the villian so well as a sub plot to the main objective, making the viewer tend to forget but be shocked by deaths harrowing presence. I honestly am so shocked you gave this a 4.9 Dave, you reactions throughout we're either crying From laughter or calling out the great animations but I do understand the gut punch aspect, I was honestly expecting us to lose someone for that exact reason but I'm glad we get to see all of these characters possibly interact in a sequel.. far far away. :)

im a new member but the way yall loved puss in boots is how much I loved Turning Red (which I think perfectly encapsulates young girlhood) which I hope you guys watch soon!

J Knight

I can't believe Oak choked up at this but not Society of the Snow 😭 I always love his speeches when movies have a good emotional punch. I so hope that Far Far Away tease at the end means more for the Shrek franchise.

Toan Toan

This movie is too dang good! I also need more of the Goldilocks & the Three Bears crime family in my life

MynamecouldB

This movie is so good. I was blown away the first time I watched it. I'm so glad you all enjoyed it too.

Steven Warner

Unless i missed it im surprised (especially The Answer) didn’t realize Jack Horner was the same actor who voiced the Peter Porker in the spiderverse

Sanji Sama

I love death telling Puss to pick up the sword, to so he actually fights for his life.

Steven Warner

How tf did the answer guess that it was the other 8 lives talking to him? Very suspicious, how tf can you see that coming?

Jundae

I legitimately think this is in my top 10 maybe top 5 movies of all time. I love it so much and I laughed so damn hard at the jokes when I first saw it in theaters

Banana Hammocks

ive bought a hardcopy and it on digital to try to make up for that i missed supporting it in theaters

L AH

That was Puss' wish to get his lives back + the name of the place "the cave of the lost souls" was a big hint. Also the fact that the place was literally filled with mirrors, literally a reflection of himself I didn't guess it was his past lives but when they appeared on screen, I was like "oh yeah, that makes total sense" haha

L AH

First time watching this movie and I heard about the rave reviews about it but wow, I was still shocked of how good it is. Amazin lessons, amazin animation, amazing voice acting and Death was actually the coolest (the voice actor was top notch)

Cojuancidence

The animation is next tier! As an adoptee tho, there are few things that def could have been done and said way better, but hollywood never did adoption well, hope one of these big animation realms do it justice* puss has joined the han solo, luke skywalker, indiana jones, thor and more. rundown outa nowhere but what a ride to build the hero back up* Can't wait for the next animation stories. Try Justin and the knights of valor, Sing series, Elemental and Cloudy wiith a chance of meatballs series! :D Thanks again for what you all do! On to the next:)

GooseToes

Watched this a few months ago, and it is one of the best movies I've seen in years. The people who made this movie poured their hearts into it and it shows. So glad y'all are reacting to it

I was waiting for you guys to get to this one cause I knew you'd love it, the best villain in an animated movie I think, and I love how complex and layered the plot and relationships are.

i am so excited to see this with you guys tonight I was the one who asked you to see this last live stream!!

Shadowwolf21687

You guys should definitely check out the Bad Guys from Dreamworks as well as both Sing movies from Illumination. I think you’ll really enjoy them. They got some amazing voice talents that you love and might recognize.

Annie519

Yeah, the film makers did not need to put this much effort into this film but man they did an amazing job, especially for Puss In Boots 2! I honestly can't think of anyone that asked for this but it has now become one of my favorite Dreamworks films, I can't pick between this or Shrek 2 when it comes to the Shrek universe. The animation is incredible, again one of their best, it's right up there with HTTYD and The Prince Of Egypt. I loved despite if people hadn't seen the first Puss In Boots or even the Shrek sequels this is a great stand alone movie, you won't be lost or have to see the first one before this. I actually took my 3 year old niece to see this, I had no expectations for it, I wanted to take her out and she really wanted to see it since she loves cats and animals and I thought it was more aimed for her, maybe add some "adult" jokes in there so I was very surprised, she loved it too. I love both villains they are great in their own ways, it's been a long time since I have seen a generally intimidating villain, I was actually worried my niece would get scared, luckily she didn't. And then you have Jack Horner who is just hilarious, the fact that he has no regard for his men got me every time and his banter with the conscious cricket had me in stitches. Again it has been a while since we have seen a evil villain with no tragic or complex backstory, he has no reason to be evil and I thought that was so refreshing. Goldilocks and the 3 bears were a great addition and I liked that at first they were also villains but came around and they all helped each other. I love Perrito so much, the scene when he helps Puss with his anxiety attack was perfect, that whole scene was done very well. I also loved all the magic Easter eggs, like the glass slipper, the magic carpet, Mary Poppin's bag, Mickey Mouse's sorcerer hat, the walking broom from Fantasia. I'm sure there was even more that I still haven't caught yet. A fun fact, in the beginning during Puss' fight with that tree monster or whatever it was you actually see Death in the backgroud, if you pause at 7:06 he's in the back on the left side, he's also on the corners of each card when he's remembering all his past lives. I loved that they included that because they did not need to.

Abigail.M

Please say you guys are gonna do the tv show. I know y’all don’t usually watch stuff like that but still. So many call backs and it is amazing.

I love the oaks reaction

Zoe S

It's probably too short for a reaction video but there is also a mini Puss In Boots film called Puss In Boots The Three Diablos (it's about 13 minutes long)

Eric Wallace

I somehow missed this one drop. Nice Sunday evening watch

Keptin Sen

7th march?? I missed this somehow emm. Well I'm watching it now
