fun fact: there are a lot of conspiracy theories around this movie. I'm not the best person to explain, but some of the more popular theories include 1) Coraline never truly left the other world, when she would wake up in the "real world it was actually the other mother pretending she returned, and the cat supposedly can only travel freely in the other world, and he disappears at the end of the movie! 2) the key goes back to the other world, the well is another portal that connects the two. There are tons of YouTube theories out there!

btw its really not doing this film any justice calling this an "animation" its a stop motion picture :) meaning everything you saw was actually hand made and really there. the work that went into making this film is crazy. the studio said they never wanna do stop motion again because of that scene with the mice dancing was so hard to put together because everything is frame by frame. you should watch the making of the movie behind the scenes its really impressive and probably on youtube.

They say movies and art are supposed to make you feel something and I certainly remember feeling unsettled and horrified watching this as a kid (and still kinda feel that way now lol). I definitely get what you mean Oak. That being said, the stop motion animation is absolutely CRAZY COOL in this movie so props to the filmmakers. Always makes me want to go hug my mom after watching this haha

cool little detail regarding the cake when coraline first visits: the letter O in the word “home” on the cake is written with a double-loop. in graphology, that’s an indication that the person who wrote it is lying

just watched this and loved it wanted to stop by and say this actually is NOT a tim burton film ! It's Laika who specializes in stop motion films ! I also SUPER want to recommend another film by Laika called Kubo and the Two Strings. It's an AMAZING movie done in the same stop motion animation style
