Scream 6 successfully combines the old and the new, providing a solid foundation for a story that can continue without its original final girl. The return of fan-favorite characters Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed adds to the nostalgic appeal, while allowing the new cast to shine. However, the explanation for Sidney Prescott's absence feels rushed and and some could say dampening the overall impact.

The film stays true to the Scream franchise's tradition of subverting horror tropes and engaging in meta-commentary. Scream 6 takes it a step further by playfully poking fun at itself, paying homage to both classic and contemporary horror favorites. The balance between self-exploration and reverence for Wes Craven's legacy is skillfully maintained, resulting in an enjoyable and humorous experience.

The Core Four, consisting of the Meeks-Martin twins and the Carpenter sisters, face more challenges than the original three ever did. The suspense builds as the audience remains uncertain about who will survive until the closing credits.  The heart and soul of Scream 6 lies in the Core Four, as the story keeps the survivors connected throughout. This approach fosters a deeper emotional investment in the main characters and their relationships, extending the concern to their loved ones. The secondary characters in this installment shine, thanks to the talented cast.

Overall, Scream 6 thrives on its emotional depth and brutal intensity, positioning it as the best sequel in the franchise to date. Despite stumbling in explaining Sidney Prescott's absence, the film proves that Scream can continue successfully with or without its original final girl, establishing strong connections with the new Core Four and leaving the franchise with a promising future.

This one is so good🤟🏽

The logo of Badd Medicine with the 6 in it, amazing ! Also, we saw Samantha Weaving at the beginning so I hope you guys can check out Ready Or Not one of those days 🥹

Ron Banks

This is the only Scream movie I bothered watching in the theatre when it came out. Definitely didn't correctly guess the killer(s)...

Alyssa Dyson

My biggest critique with this one is that there were really no stakes...pretty much everyone survived fatal injuries. I like the NYC setting though.

Monica

I agree, why have the stabbing scenes with Mindy and especially Chad just for them to survive in the end. The original 2nd film raised the stakes by killing Randy off.

Conor Moriarty

I first watched all these with you guys and it was a pleasant surprise how much I enjoyed them.

Curtis Rice

Can't believe it's pug from She-hulk

Marquis keel

Would y’all consider watching a show like snowfall

L AH

I agree with Mason Quinn, you have to suspend your disbelief when the killer has the mask on. They gain extra abilities in order for the movie to be more fun, because the killer would have died in 2 seconds in real life. They need to overpower the characters haha

Monica

Sure, but it does make it harder to believe when we see a athletic male body type as Ghostface. And then not be suprised when the killer is reveal to be a thin female or scrawny guy .

Sarah

About to start it! Haven't seen this yet so first time watch-watchalong 😆

L AH

I don’t think those movies are meant to be believable though, even though I agree that the killing of Dewey was a bit outlandish. Ghostfaces have to have similar body types when they are in the mask, otherwise, it would be too easy to guess who’s female and who’s male, or to guess the character based on their shape

Marcio T

OMG! The day after I joined Patreon and watched Scream 5's Reaction do you release 6? Thank you!!!!

L AH

It didn’t bother me as much as other people. I usually leave my logic at the door when I’m watching the Scream movies. I only require that the motives be believable and the kills be inventive to enjoy myself. And I think that’s the primary interest for the filmmakers too 😊

Excited to watch this one with you guys, finally one where Answer knows as much as everyone else! As usual, sorry for the stupid long comment that follows haha just have a lot of thoughts. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit, riiight up until the reveal scene. I have to say, I think these are the worst killers in the series and it’s not even close. Obviously there’s got to be some suspension of disbelief in this series, but in this one if you even start to think about the logistics of how they pulled off their plan for two seconds (and in New York rather than a small town), pretty much nothing in this one makes any sense. Part of the issue was also that I guessed who the killers were and why literally after Quinn’s line about losing a brother, because I love Scream 2 and they seemed to just largely be remaking it, so the whole time I was just thinking, “Please don’t just be a repeat of Scream 2, that’d be so lame and obvious.” And then obviously you get to the the end where we’re literally in a theater again, but this time with no subtext or purpose except to rehash… I didn’t guess that one kid would be a third killer I guess, so props for that?? (Although Ethan may be the most useless, forgettable character in the franchise, sorry Spider from Avatar.) I have a lot of thoughts about why the Billy’s mother reveal works so well, makes so much sense, and is a great ending for 2, while in this movie it just feels like a bad rehash, but this is already long so I’ll save it. The one thing I’ll say is that Laurie Metcalf knocked it out of the park in her reveal scene and grounded it in an emotional depth the actors in this could only dream of pulling off. Instead they just act wacky and goofy as soon as the masks are off, like they’re all doing a bad Matthew Lillard impression. A lot of the killers have been trending towards that in the recent ones. It’s cartoony and not in a fun, hamming-it-up way, and I think somebody should have been more grounded. Somebody above me already addressed the fact that no one can die unless the script randomly decides they can, even after they’ve been filleted and mutilated they’re still jumping and climbing around the theater in the climax which really strips tension away. There’s too much to talk about in one comment here sadly. I know it sounds like I hated this one but I actually loved a lot of what they did in the NY setting, the opening and convenience store chase scenes are both great, and more. Unfortunately, the ending has just soured me more and more on this one the more I’ve had to sit with it and rewatched it, since all those good things kind of lead to nothing satisfying. Overall, it’s either right above 3 or at the bottom in terms of my rankings. But I’m so glad you guys did this series! These movies mean a lot to me and it made me really happy to see it for the first time again through all your eyes, it really reminded me once again what makes them so effective and brilliant all these years later.

So, this is my favourite Scream movie because of the intro of the movie with the copycat killer and the killings. The ghostface in this movie doesn't give a f if he is seen in public killing people. Also the reveal of it being three killers was unexpected and new. My only complaint about it and consequently about Scream 2 is the motive. Parents are angry and want revenge for their psychopath child that killed people and was killed while trying to kill its friends. So they go out and kill even more people. That doesn't make any sense. But I agree with Oak, the fun with these movies is to scream at the screen for the protagonists to not split up and to hit the killer more than just once with a heavy object. 😄

Alyssa Dyson

I agree. There was some great things in this one but the negatives overshadowed them for me.

Angelina

Awesome reaction 👏 First time watching this entire franchise and I’m so glad I went along this ride with y’all 😆 Ton of fun 🔥

Bri

Great reaction! I loved rewatching these with y'all. Please let Mason Quinn know I'm with him on the mask theory lol. I've pondered the idea of Ghostface being a lil supernatural in the past because every Ghostface has the ability to magically *disappear* lol. One minute you think they're down, the next, they're gone without a peep. It's not normal lol. Also when you think about it, it really is a tribute to the "ghost" in Ghostface. They loving ghosting people lol. Anyways, I really like where the franchise has ended up and I hope they continue, the last two have felt really amped up.

Megan

This was infinitely better than the last, the cast really stepped up their acting. I think Chad is the new Dewey (keeps surviving a billion deathly blows) and his sister is obviously the new Randy as established last film. I will say this is probably my third favorite now out of the series (1 and 2 are still the best). I like that Sam actually takes her revenge on the killers like in the last movie to highlight the brutality side of her being a Loomis but she still has a heart thanks to her sister. I think if something happens to her sister, then she may go full Billy. Though I still don't think she will be a killer like him just more of a vigilante. I'm very interested if they are setting it up as potentially giving us a Ghostface with an actual backstory or if she will be a next generation final girl who is going to start seeking out each round of Ghostfaces coming at their family. I honestly knew the daughter was one killer because she gave off killer vibes and I honestly didn't buy her death thanks to og Scream. Same thing with the son, he gave off quiet kid shooter vibes. I suspected the dad because that actor has been playing villains as of late but I was "thrown off" thinking they would stick with the two killer thing. I really do hope Stu is brought back at some point because it had been confirmed he survived the tv the face but I don't know if they nixed it since they didn't go with the intended storyline for movies 2 and 3. Finally, I hope they fix the Ghostface killer build. I'm assuming they have a big guy to hide the identity for the reveal but it's super unrealistic to have an athletic 6 ft killer then reveal the killers as 5'4-5'9 women or men clearly too scrawny to be the killers. I get if one is a mastermind but since they claim who they killed, it takes me out of the story a bit. The superhuman bit I honestly have no problem with. Also about the mask, if it's still the same, I had one as I was ghostface for Halloween many moons ago. The eyes are like a black netting so pepper spray would definitely work and you just have two holes at the nose. I remember it being super hard to breath in the mask. I think they still have the fabric that goes around the neck on the masks so if pepper spray gets into that mask, the fumes are not escaping unless you remove it. Also, I really appreciate The Oak's safety tips and how caring he is to the audience.

I just realized the guy who played Ethan is Jack Champion, who was Spider in Avatar the Way of Water lol talk about a different character.

keara king

i believe the question mark next to stu is because his mask hadn’t been left at a crime scene yet. next to all the killers is a picture of their mask/which crime scene they were at. each of the killers are grouped together with their partner (obviously except for roman bc he was alone). mickey and mrs. loomis’ pictures are together with a question mark next to them. stu and billy are grouped together with a question mark next to them. bc those masks hadn’t been left at a crime scene yet

Jack Champion, who plays Ethan Landry in this film is actually 6'3, he just doesn't look too tall in this film because he was put next to other taller actors. When in reality Jack is actually taller than Mason Gooding(Chad) who is 6'2. I totally agree that the ghost faces look crazy tall when compared to how they show the actor the whole movie.

This ghostface is by far my favorite. I love Ghostface, how he is clumsy and takes a lot of "bumps" as you guys put it, but Ghostface in Scream 6 is by far my favorite, because this one feels brutal and actually scary.

One of my fav Scream Movies :) <3
