What a blast from the past! That song.... can't get it out of our heads. Dream big! Great lesson in here and many more. The movie really pushes you in to a mysterious and wonderful adventure. The way they shock the audience with a twist, of reality becoming part of the book. It's such a unique and awesome concept. Sure, some can nitpick this film, but it is great story. Just to get that memory feeling, that you're a kid again. Everyone needs a Lucky Dragon. :)

What was your reaction? Do you still watch this today?

Neverending Story FULL REACTION

Jennifer Redmond

This is such a huge part of my childhood!

Curtis Rice

This is the reason I started writing. I can honestly only remember about 10 percent of this.

Thank you for this 1!! Random Idea but has "Titan AE" every crossed your way? Much love to you all. (Wizards) is also a wild ride but far more darker*

For some reason, I was obsessed with the sequel to this movie growing up and I remember very little about this one. It's fantastic! And it's so fun watching it again with you guys. Speaking of puppets— have you guys considered adding 'The Dark Crystal' to your watch list? It's another surprisingly dark fantasy classic. Thanks for the always awesome content!

Anyone want a Bad Medicine reenactment of the opening scene?!

Angelina

Dawww love this movie & reaction 🎉 Brings back so many memories lol Also, there are a bunch of articles saying that the horse did *not* die in that stunt work. Not sure if it’s true or not, but IMDb says it’s not - phew!

The thumbnail is killing me 😂

Atreyu's actor was also injured in the swamp scene. His leg got caught on the platform mechanism and he was dragged under.

My heart almost burst outta my chest when we got the sweet, sweet serenade of the song in Stranger Things lol.

I'm at the scene where Artex dies. Mason: What if he gets sad, isn't the swamp going to take him too? YES. That's the terrible beauty of the Swamps of Sadness. It's a trap that, much like the depression it's meant to represent. Once it sucks you in, every little thing drags you further down and makes getting out of it feel more and more difficult. I always thought that was a really fascinating thing about the film. There are two things that make the whole concept even cooler. One, Morla, a completely apathetic turtle, a being that cares about nothing, is totally unaffected by the Swamp. If you don't care about anything at all, you won't feel depressed. It won't be able to get you. And two, Falcor, the Luck Dragon, who is pink and loving and just a warm being kids would love to have as a friend gets him out. Something that makes any kid happy is what gets him out. It's brilliant.

The thumbnails just keep giving. It's getting quite normal to see oak and answer with hair now 😅

I looked online and read that the horse did not die in real life. Mason mentioned seeing a lot of German names in the credits. The book they based the movie on is a German book and the movie was filmed by German production studios. The director consulted Steven Spielberg on how to help make the film more appropriate for an American release and for his help, the director gave Spielberg the auryn worn by Atreyu in the movie. The actress who played The Childlike Empress made her acting debut with this movie, but did not move forward with an acting career, but focused more on her dancing after this movie. The author was not happy with changes made in the movie from the book. One change made was that Atreyu’s skin was not blue. This is my all time favorite movie! I have seen it so many times I can practically recite the movie along with the characters. As a kid I memorized the dialogue between the childlike empress and Atreyu and would sit on the end of my bed and act it out. 😊 I think the musical score is great! Like Oak said, so much nostalgia. Mason and Answer got it easy watching with subtitles. I never figured out until I was an adult what name Bastian yelled out. It added to the mystery of the movie. Final note, for the countless times I have seen this movie, this is the first time I have really noticed how grief is a main focus. Bastian is dealing with grief - the loss of his mom - and a dad who is unable to connect with him emotionally to comfort him. The book clearly adapts its story to connect with its reader. As the childlike empress said to Atreyu, all the pain and trials he went through were necessary for him to connect with the human reader. Atreyu experienced his own loss and grief in the swamps of sadness when he lost Artax. Then taking Bastian’s dad’s advice, he forced himself to move forward but he just kept sinking deeper and deeper, until a little ray of hope, the luck dragon, or in Bastian’s case the book, came and rescued him and brought healing. Atreyu talking to the Rock Biter at the end made me think of the Rock Biter being connected to Bastian’s dad, but maybe I am conjecturing too much there. 😎 Thank you for reacting to my favorite movie! It was a pleasure to watch your reactions!!! 🤗

When are we gonna get an oak update on his Harry Potter book experience

Linda

The main reason the author didn't like the movie was not the skin colour, but that they only adapted half of the book! It completely changed the story and message. Or, like a great review youtuber said, its like making a film version of romeo and juliet but choosing to end it when they get married and live happily ever after!

Susan Sitzmann

Anyone old enough to remember when Orange Julius used to be made with raw eggs?

Ginger

I didn’t say it was the “main” reason. I said it was one of the changes.

I loved watching you guys go through this! I don't know if Oak or Answer have seen them, but it might be fun watching the second and third movies lol. The second one in particular covers most of the events of the second half of the book, which I always thought was the most gripping and heartbreaking part. This one only covered the abbreviated events of the first part of the book.
