Just to shine some light on the cruelty of Zuko's father. When he scarred Zuko he purposely held back enough to not blind the eye, so that Zuko would still be able to see everyone staring at him.

Also Aang very nonchalantly mentions how he came up with his air scooter trick to the other young Air Nomads. This really means alot more. Notice none of the kids but Aang have their tattoos, the Nomads only earn their ink after having mastered air bending. In order to be accepted as a master you need to create your own air bending technique. Therefore Aang became a master airbender when he invented his Air Scooter at a very young age.
