The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe FULL REACTION

Need to watch the old BBC versions for comparison. Maybe it's nostalgia but while I enjoy these ones, I prefer the BBC ones. They're cheesy but well done in a way that the cheese makes it charming.

Brandon Jensen - May the force be with you

OMG MY DREAM IS HERE.... This is my childhood movie, I like to say that star wars is but this movie is something special..... I really don't know if it`s the incredible music or just the nostalgia of me watching it every day before bed from 7-15 years old but this movie always makes me cry for no real reason... I just start crying like something from my childhood forces me to. One of the best movies of all time...... Really glad I could rewatch it with you.... a fantastic reaction as always.... love ya!!!

Jon C

It was a miniseries in the late 80s. Really cheesy, really low budget, but they have a real charm to them, especially for kids. I feel they keep the books' themes more intact and upfront, especially when it comes to the later stories. They also did 4 of the Narnia books vs the 3 done by the newer.

Jenna

There is so much nostalgia most especially with this first movie, for me! I am not an expert on the book series at all, but there were actually about 7 books in the series so most did not get adapted. It was an interesting trilogy to say the least!

HXBBIT_FEET

such an underrated movie, glad you guys watched this! also if you guys didnt notice the professor is also Slughorn from Harry Potter. Cant wait to see the other two, although this one was probably much better than the rest of them

Celine

I am rewatching the movies so often. When you announced that you will do this series I was so looking forward to watching it with you guys and see how you like it. This is like THE childhood movie for me. I love the soundtrack and the story and the cinematography and everything. Also I like that all three movies give me the same feeling but all are very different in my opinion because each own has its own atmosphere. Can't wait until next week to watch the second movie with you!

Celine

Also yes the books are kids-friendly. They are also relatively short. Actual this movie right here is based on Book 2. In the book series there is a book before this story. It is about how Narnia is formed (in the movie it got scrached a little bit about the magic that is behind this place and Book 1 covers that and also the relationship of Aslan and the White Witch) and is like the prequel to this movie.

Shane Kolaga

I've never actually watched these ones! Guess I'll tag along!

Miss_CJ

Maybe I'm too much of a Potter Head but I've always associated the four kids to the four houses at Hogwarts xD Peter = Gryffindor (bravery) Susan = Ravenclaw (cleverness) Edmund = Slytherin (self-preservation/resourcefulness) Lucy = Hufflepuff (kindness)

jjsons

these movies are my entire childhood!! i don't think you guys picked up on it but the chronicles of narnia are heavily biblically influenced. that is why they constantly refer to the kids as the sons and daughters of adam and eve. and as well as aslan sacrificing himself and then resurrecting, he is supposed to represent jesus, also why he says "it is finished" after he takes down the queen, just like jesus did on the cross...hope this helps you guys get an even better understanding of the storyline :)

Forgive me for being off topic, but does Badd Medicine have the Korean zombie series, All of Us Are Dead on the list? It’s a couple episodes too long for my taste but still an entertaining watch.

Wattyone1

I thought you would of recognised the professor played by Jim Broadbent who played professor Slughorn in potter, also mrs beaver was voiced by dawn french who played the fat lady portrait in potter. Loved the reaction can’t wait for the rest of the movies.

Yenni Huynh

Came here to say this as well 😂 i was surprised they didn’t spot him

The books are classic children's books, and I highly recommend them. I gave them to my little cousin for Christmas last year and he was 9. He loved them!

Amanda P

Idk if anyone has mentioned it but the author of the Narnia books (C S Lewis) and JRR Tolkien (author of Lord of the rings) were good friends! Can't wait to watch this with y'all, I read the books as a kid, don't remember much about them though honestly, and I remember being so excited to see this as a 12 year old in theaters haha. My fave of the trilogy is the 2nd movie so I'm excited for next week! There's been talks of making all of the books a Netflix series, I really hope they do it!

So in real life CS Lewis housed kids sent away from london to escape the bombings. The professor is based on JRR Tolkien, and Treebeard is based on CS Lewis. Tolkien and Lewis were best friends. So explanations of the wardrobe in the origin story prequel the main character (the professor) is given an apple from basically the tree of life of narnia to plant in our world and the wardrobe was made from that semi-magical tree. When the world of narnia was created a piece broken off from a lamp post was thrown and landed and the magic creating the world turned it into a lamp post. The professor entered narnia the day narnia was created. The beavers and Reepicheep (who you'll meet next movie) are two of my all time favorite fictional characters. Did you realize that Santa is Lord Commander Mourmont? In the book Mrs. Beaver gets a new sowing machine and Mr. Beaver gets the dam magically completed. The book talks about how it felt to stick their hands into his mane. I really love how they slowed things down as the two armies charged

Andrew Hansen

Yes the books are just as kid friendly. they are all under 200 pages each. They were the first real chapter books i read ever. If you have any interest in reading them, i can gift you radio drama versions of the books, where the stories have full voice actor casts, sound effects and music. They are hosted by CS Lewis' step son so its really interesting to hear his stories of growing up with Lewis This is the movie i recommend reactors who are watching GOT for the first time and watch the Red Wedding, Jon Snow's death, etc and feel depressed afterwards. i'm not hating on GOT. There's just a different feel with this or LOTR as compared to GOT. I think it's worldview. The lessons are explictly religious. Aslan is literally Jesus. In the third book and movie it's explicitly said that Aslan is known by a different name in our world and that is the very reason they are brought to Narnia that by knowing Aslan in narnia they might know jesus better in the real world.

White Wind

I joined the patreon just cuz of this movie and the rest of the saga. Thank you so much for reacting to this! <3

The narnia books are based and lines in with Christian faith. Aslan represents Jesus and his death and resurrection were based off Jesus who died and was resurrected. The professor has been to narnia when narnia was born. That's why he wanted to know more about the wardrobe at the beginning. He was a young boy about Edmunds age in 1900 when he went and saw narnia being created. Aslan also gave the professor a fruit from narnia to heal his mother who was dying. He planted the seed of the fruit which grew into a massive tree that was used to create the wardrobe after it was uprooted in a bad storm. The witch represents the snake in that book and is not from narnia at all but a different world entirely. She killed her entire race with a single unforgivable word too. In this movie and book she represents the evil of this world and the need of a savior which Aslan giving his life for Edmund shows. Just as Jesus did for us in the Bible. There's 7 books total. It sucks only three were made into movies cause in the books we see narnia created, the golden age (the 15 years the siblings reigned), the constant expansion of narnia and the surrounding kingdoms, and the end of narnia which gives us a view and a twist that even you guys would not have seen coming. All of the series is based off Christianity and a coming of age in each of the four siblings too.

I'm REALLY hoping with Netflix's VERY PRICEY acquisition of the domain that they do it justice in their future adaptations & maybe decide to go chronological starting with "The Magician's Nephew" since it's a prequel & then go to The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe next, but we shall see!

Anonymous

I am watching yet (I watch some reactions through days xD) and I am in the moment Edmund tells about Aslan to the witch, and Oak goes "OMG ALWAYS THIS KID" hahahahah I've seen this movie once, in 2006 or so, and the only thing I could remember about it was that I hate Edmund. I hope he gets better, but right now I hate him hahaha

Anonymous

I hope so too. I enjoyed the magician's nephew. It's actually my favorite book in total. Hope Netflix let's it stay in its original form and not do something stupid or try to throw crap into it.

jjsons

he’s actually the Best character in the second movie lol

Ginger

Graphically, casting, and acting wise, these movies are better than the BBC versions, but the BBC versions are more faithful to the books, especially in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. However this movie and the next one, Prince Caspian, were made by Disney and had the same director. Voyage of the Dawn Treader was made by Fox and had a different director. The books are very much children’s books. Much shorter in length than the Harry Potter books for sure. They are Christian allegory. The author C.S. Lewis is known as a Christian author. And he was close friends with JRR Tolkien who wrote LOTR. The actor who played the professor also played a professor in the Harry Potter movies. You guys should do a reaction to the blooper reel!

Ginger

Oh, and you should totally watch The Neverending Story! That is still my favorite movie from my childhood. As a kid, I memorized the Childlike Empress’s lines and sat on the end of my bed acting out the part to an imaginary Atreyu. 😁❤️

I've never seen the second, I was 13 years old in 2006, I mean, when I posted that comment I was watching yet, when I finished it I reconciled with him. I hope my comment wasn't offensive to anyone, I just wanted to state my feelings at the time because I laughed when Oak said "omg always this kid". English is not my native languaje so, forgive me if I got your comment in the wrong way :)

Angelina

The Chronicles of Narnia are definitely children's books / younger audiences. I remember reading the series & watching the BBC series around 3rd & 4th grade. They follow great, simple themes and lessons. Certainly based in Christian lore/metaphors. Teach the basics of right & wrong. I loved them all and every adaptation...even the poorly animated movie my family and I watch every Christmas 😆 Prince Caspian is my personal favorite of the movies. Out of the books probably The Magician's Nephew - which is the 1st of the series and is about a younger version of the Professor we saw in this film (Broadbent/Slughorn haha) OR The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Great reactions, y'all!! Especially Oak's Jumpscare &Answer's callback 🤣🤘

Kunzite Blossom

Fun little thing is how well they would fit into the Harry Potter universe. Lucy being Hufflepuff, Edmund being Slytherin, Susan being Ravenclaw and Peter being Gryffindor. Also, the Professor in this played Slughorn in Harry Potter.

Badd Medicine

We are looking forward to the remaining 2. Can't believe how many people we knew in this

Ana Setefano

Never disappoint - another amazing reaction ! can not wait for the reaction to Narnia 2!!!

Badd Medicine

Saw someone mention that it's actually happening on Netflix. That will be interesting to see if it does really happen.

Kymberlee Shakoor-Asadi Preston

i read the books when i was really young. they aren’t too graphic. really fun reads! and the books that weren’t made into movies are amazing as well!

The Magicians Nephew - The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe - The Horse and His Boy - Prince Caspian - The Voyage of The Dawn Treader - The Silver Chair - The Last Battle

Marco Gutierrez

Call me pessimistic but I wouldn't hold my breath for Netflix to do the series justice. They can't even get secular adaptations right, much less one with such heavy Christian themes. It's kinda antithetical to their ideology.

Marco Gutierrez

I'm really happy you guys watched this! It gave me a good reason to come back and watch it again. It's been years and I was such a different person when I first saw them. I don't know if you guys have seen Hacksaw Ridge or Equilibrium, but they're both more action based movies that I'd love to watch you react to.

I think Netflix might be doing a reboot series on all the books

Oouga

But Narnia IS ocean side . . .

Oouga

If memory of the books serves me: The Witch used magic to manipulate Edmund's negative emptions, thus he became a traitor when he normally was just disgruntled. And Aslan breathed on the kids, making them "little lions" in the heart so they became brave and better warriors. Plus I believe it takes place over more than four days in the books.

Oouga

In The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, the grand battle was two paragraphs long. It was written for C.S. Lewis' niece, Lucy, from what I understand. And she was the same age as Lucy in the books, about 8 or 9.

Lena Herbert

C. S. Lewis and Tolkien were really good friends and a little bit of rivals in their writing actually. An example of that is the lamp post you see in the beginning is actually because Tolkien was adamant that a modern thing like a lamp post couldn't be in a high fantasy setting and Lewis essentially said "watch me". The Narnia books, and the Hobbit book (less so the Lord of the Rings trilogy), are actually more considered children's books than their movies turned out to be. The first book, the Magician's Nephew (SPOILERS) documents Professor Kirke (the old man they stayed with) and his travels to Narnia and other worlds as a boy, particularly accidentally bringing the White Witch from her dead world (which she destroyed) to London in our world, then to Narnia while Aslan was first creating it. The White Witch is the one who brought the lamp post from London to Narnia. Because Aslan was creating the world and there was so much creation magic, the lamp post sprouted roots and became like a living tree. In the end, Professor Kirke was allowed to take a magic apple from Narnia (basically like the fruit from the Tree of Good and Evil from the Bible) to give to his dying mother to revive her, and he planted a tree from the seeds. When the tree died, he created the Wardrobe from the wood. And that's how this direct portal from our world to Narnia was created. The books are definitely kids' books and written in the old fantasy style, but they are still some of my favorites and maybe Oak would be interested in reading them after Harry Potter.
