Been actually looking forward to Oak's opinion on this one cause we all know how he feels about romance movies... more so people falling in love quickly lol this one is a bit different...gonna load up soon for this 💜

CallingCollins

So looking forward to this watch along!

beannieswife

so excited for this!! love getting some female gaze on the channel!

Dana Sow

So excited for this one. And its the entire gang reacting, I love it!

Kaley

Love this film! Thanks for reacting! Another Saoirse (for Diamond Dave…pronounced SIR-SHA) Ronan film I hope you guys watch is called “The Lovely Bones”. It’s one of her first films, and Stanley Tucci plays the villain (he was nominated for an Oscar for his work). A heavy but powerful film.

Kaley

Amazing! Also-I have a special connection to “Little Women” because it takes place/was filmed in Concord, MA (as a Massachusetts resident that made me so happy).

Sophie.com

Absolutely loved this movie! Saw it in theaters and couldn’t stop thinking about for days after!

Maddie Loftus

Not to get ahead of myself, but I just wanted to say that the official story is that the book is semi-autobiographical and based loosely on Louisa May Alcott's life with her three sisters. The author was told that Jo needed to be married by the end of the story or they wouldn't publish the book, and that is the only reason Jo ends up married, as the author never actually did. In the movie, *Jo* has to write the ending of her novel with the heroine getting married, but Jo herself does not. Greta Gerwig has said that she wanted it to write an ending that the author could've been proud of.

I’m so excited you guys reacted to this! I can’t wait to watch it when I get home. I’d really like to suggest a movie for you guys Ever After (1998) I think you guys would enjoy it ☺️

Alyssa Dyson

"Are we gonna have a good son moment?" lmao 🤣

Sarah

Spending the day with my family for my brother's birthday... not me excited for when it's time to go home tonight so I can watch this. 🤣

Plebcy

Saw Emma Watson in the cast and decided I have to watch this reaction. Never even seen this movie or know what it's about. Guess I'm about to find out...

Liona N

omg yes please , it's one of the best cinderella adaptations out there

Tx28

Guys it's so much fun and such a treat watching you expand your range and explore so many different film genres! :D I would love to suggest these films for future reactions: 'Ever After' (1998) 'Under the Tuscan Sun’ (2003) 'Flightplan' (2005) I'm sure you would love these, and we would have a blast watching them with you! x

Tx28

Couldn't agree more! Ever After is the best!

Sophia Sanchez

Just watched this for the first time with y'all! I'm fiercely loyal to the 90s version of Little Women, but this one was excellent as well. The jumping between past and present was a really interesting choice that I think added a lot to the story. And all the actors were excellent as well. IDK if others have mentioned this, but the book is indeed semi-autobiographical, with Jo being the stand-in for Louisa May Alcott. Thanks for watching this! I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise :-)

Sophia Sanchez

Also I would highly recommend watching the 90s version, whether it be on your own or for the channel :-)

Sophie.com

For anyone struggling with the time jumps too, it helps to look at the color schemes. The past uses warm and bright colors (red, orange, yellow) while the present uses cold colors (blue, purple, grey).

Jessie

I came to comment this as well. The gold overlay in the past scenes really helped give a nostalgic vibe.

Michael

Great and entertaining reaction as always guys. If you are going to continue with Emma Watson films you should check out (2012) Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

Alyssa Dyson

Also just wanted to say the time jump thing....the past was warm tones and the present was cool tones. Thats how i always differentiated the two.

Jessie

First time watching this with you guys and WOW it's so good! I grew up watching the 1949 one with Elizabeth Taylor but this is now my favorite version. so well done. A note about the time jumps that helped me keep up—the past is tinted gold and the present is tinted blue. Thanks for watching this guys!

Ron Banks

So my random relation to this movie: My mom used to watch whichever version of this. When I saw the commercial on tv for this one I told her “I think they’re making a new version of that movie you always watch.” Did some research and come to find out this is the 7th Little Women movie. Apparently there have been 3 tv movies and this is the 4th theatrically released movie. I heard the 1994 one staring Winona Ryder was the most accurate to the book though. Gotta admit I was initially only interested in this because I wanted to see what Emma Watson could do outside of Harry Potter. 🤣…I came for the Emma but stayed for the Jo March. Really enjoyed her character. Great dialogue and characters all around.

Alex

Louisa May Alcott wrote her book loosely based on her family. Not only was Louisa a writer, but also a nurse during the Civil War, and she was a suffragette. It was semi-autobiographical and semi-fiction. Jo was Louisa, Elizabeth was Beth, Abigail May was Amy, and Anna Alcott was Meg. Little Women was published in 1868 originally in 2 books. The second one took place in New York and the two books were later combined into one. Louisa’s real sister Elizabeth did die young. Louisa herself supported her family as a writer and never married in real life. She didn’t want to marry Jo off to Laurie so she created the character Professor Bear at the behest of the publisher. What I loved about this movie was how Greta blurred the lines between Louisa’s reality and the fiction of the book while maintaining the spirit of the original novel. You can visit Orchard House in Concord Massachusets, which was the family home that she described in the book. And yes, Jo selling her hair was a part of the book. I also highly recommend the 2017 mini-series (it's 3 episodes) and it's one of the best adaptations of the book besides this movie.

Ronja Greger

As a girl who grew up with three younger sisters, this story (in every existing form - movies and book) is very near and dear to me because it just feels so honest. The relationships feel just so realistic to me and they remind me of my childhood and make me even more thankful for the bonds my sisters and I had as girls and continue to have as women, even though we too went down very, very different paths. I also would love it if they watched the 90s version with Winona Ryder as well, I think they are two vastly different movies and there is a different focus to the story entirely, considering they hit the same beats.

Katie Madsen

My second time watching this movie and I loved it even more the second time. So glad you guys enjoyed it so much, it was so much fun watching it alongside you!

Dana Sow

Thank you so much for reacting to this movie. I've been recommending this movie for a while and yall's reaction was definitely worth the wait. This is such a beautiful wholesome movie that also manages to be very meaningful. I absolutely love period pieces and I hope you guys react to more of them. The Last Duel with Ben Affleck & Matt Damon is such a great under the radar movie. Another recommendation which is probably a reach and outside you guys wheelhouse is Bridgerton. Its a really fun, romantic time period piece show with some moderation. Its only 8 episodes a season and I think yall's reaction would be an all timer.

Javier Padilla

I'm beyond grateful that you guys reacted to this movie. (I hope you remeber) but i was the one who sugested with the donation during the live transmition. It's one of my favourite movies and i'm so glad that you guys gave it a chance. So Little Women is based on the life of Louisa May Alcott and her family (her being Jo, of course) of course is in some way exagerated for it to be a good read. You can even visit the real March house which is excactly how is descrived in the book. Also the scene with the editor and the "under the umbrella scene" is added by Greta for a "pick your ending type of thing" as Louisa was very set on Jo not marring. As she, herself never married. So it was untrue to the real story. Just like in the movie Louisa was pressured to marry Jo for comercial success. So back to Greta she decided to include both parts of the story.

Jasmin

I never thought you would watch this movie. Love that you are expanding your palette. 😊 I always liked the 1994 version, but this one is just a beautiful remake. And I'm usually not a big fan of remakes of already great movies. The 1994 version has also a great cast like Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst and of course Christian Bale as Laurie. I'm sure you'll like it as well. I can't say which one I like better, because they're both so good. But I would like to suggest another historical film starring Anne Heathaway and James McAvoy - "Becoming Jane". It is a fictionalized biopic about Jane Austen. Maybe you'll give it a try.

Javier Padilla

Oak it's funny how you say that the story could be adapted into longer versions so as for now there are seven movies, stage plays, musicals, tv series, graphic novels and even a little women anime. The people have loved this story from quite some time now. But when this was announced people complained saying that we didn't really need another one. That was also a big challenge for Greta as she didn't just wanna make another adaptation. So her version is condiered more of like an study or essey of the story, cutting it into different pieces and drawing paralels of the story and the characters childhood vs adulthood. Also give new life and aproches to the characters, the biggest one being Amy. As until this version she was a historicly hated character. So she was very focused on being fair to her, so Florence Pugh and her worked Amy very carefully and i belive the result is perfect. Although a lot of people aren't really sold on the idea of Florence playing both child and adult Amy, as they say is weird and pulls you out of the story. But nah, Flo's way of portraing a character both as a kid as an adult is Oscar worthy.

Ninoshkka Paul

my need for all of you to watch Emma (2020) ia now more important than ever

Smurfy

have the guys seen bright burn?

BlueJean452

Amazing movie. For another, less serious, roll of Saoirse Ronan you guys should watch The Host (2013). Not a cinematic masterpiece by any means but it’s by the same author as Twilight and I loved watching your reactions to those. I think it would be a fun time for you guys. 😁

Emily G

I love the 1994 version even more! You guys should totally react to it!

Lauren

On a side note, there’s a broadway adaptation of Little Women, with Sutton Foster playing Jo. It’s not very well known, but the songs are really good, particularly “Some Things are Meant to Be” (about Beth). You should check out the soundtrack!

Krios

Loved this, glad the story resonated for you guys and were able to take so much from it. I'm personally Team '94, would love to hear y'all's thoughts on it! Will never forgive Amy for what she did to Jo's manuscript. :(

Yen Shively

I never understand the want for people wanting others to experience Perks of Being a Wallflower… seriously mean no offense whatsoever, but the film/book is extremely disturbing. Cannot for the life of me understand the appeal.

Jennifer Hamilton

This is one of my favourite movies, I love Greta's adaptation! Her script added so much context that a modern audience needs-- like Amy's monologue to Laurie about marriage being an economic proposition for women, bc Amy was always seen as a spoiled brat in other film adaptations. Florence's performance kills me every time, especially when she says to Laurie "you're being mean." SO GOOD! I also love Saoirse's monologue in the attic about women wanting more than just love, but then admitting her loneliness. So beautiful. Louisa May Alcott never married and it has been speculated in hindsight she was likely queer. Thanks for the reaction, guys!

Megan the Librarian

Yes! Once you figure that out the time jumps are very obvious because all the colors suddenly change drastically.

Mikal Liebswager

What really strikes me about this version is the contemplation of the creative process itself. Greta did a great job in allowing the story to be a commentary for the struggles of creatives. Friedrich comments to Jo that Shakespeare appealed to the masses by hiding poetry in his popular works. There's an assumption sometimes that art can't also be entertaining. Both Beth and Amy appeal that writing about something makes it important. I think this is Jo's biggest struggle. She's quite all or nothing in her work and in her life. She clings to childhood and rejects the idea of marriage because she can't see it coexisting with her freedom (given the time she may be right). ....Ugh I could go on and on but I won't. It really is a classic story that deserves to be analyzed and retold till the end of time. This version will always have a special place in my heart though. Glad you all liked it..i was a bit worried after p&p ;)

Michael

I'm afraid I don't agreed with you when you say the book or film is extremely disturbing, I mean yes the film contains some difficult and upsetting scenes, but that could also be said of this film, or heck they even watched stardust which I think in many parts is worse.

Alexiani Gollarza

It would be great to see them react to it! I know the movie is not good but I still see but🤣 and I agree it would be a fun time (we hope)

Alexiani Gollarza

This reaction is soooooo good, I did not expect you to be so into this movie. Loved every second! Watching the review now ✨

Alexiani Gollarza

Btw Mason and Oak, there's a new trailer of Rings of Power, would you be watching it? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Alanna Meyers

Never seen Little Women (any versions) and knew very little about the story. I quite enjoyed it. I wish it didn’t jump around so much though. That’s my only complaint.

Alanna Meyers

Also I’m so glad Titanic is on the list because it’s my favourite movie of all time. 🚢

Trish

I've been meaning to watch this and it was excellent. I read the book when I was young but I didn't remember much of it. I'm a bit of a sucker for these period pieces and this was one of the best I've seen. I'm also from Massachusetts so the house and the scenery add an extra dimension of nostalgia.

Caroline Harrison

Wow I think you all loved this you seemed really engaged 😍 I also love the take about her being angry with her “sellout” works as she was burning it

Kari-Anne

I never thougt I would like this film this much! Great seeing it with you. I only remember Laura Dern from «Big little lies» where she is great but not very likeable. It would be great if you watched it😃

Kat M.

I do really like this version, but the '94 Winona Ryder version is my favorite

Maggie Barbour

I watched this movie on Mother's Day. I had never seen a theater so full. I could hear every sob and tear that was released in the theater... Especially during Amy's "I'm just a woman," speech.

Maggie Barbour

Also, Saoirse is pronounced "Sir-shah." I know it doesn't look like that but Gaelic is a weird language

Anna Neiblum

Amy's speech to Laurie about why she has to marry Fred is just perfect--she sums up the frustrations, double standards, and impossible choices that define being a woman in a man's world, both then and now. That speech will always make me cry because even 160 years later I understand exactly what she means

Lena

Answer, love you, but in case you weren't aware, your mic picks up your breathing sometimes, and for some reason it's quite loud. I saw someone else point it out before so I know it's not just me. Loved your reactions!

Laura B

“He’s probably teaching law” killed me answer 😂😂😂

Elizabeth Gidney

Now you guys have to react to Anne with an E. One of my favorite shows.
