Set in a future Earth under threat of invasion from an alien race known as the Formics, the film follows the journey of Ender Wiggin, a young prodigy recruited into the International Fleet's Battle School. As Earth's last hope for survival, Ender undergoes rigorous training, honing his tactical skills in simulated war scenarios under the guidance of Colonel Graff and Major Anderson.

The film does a good job of capturing the intensity of Ender's emotional and intellectual struggles as he grapples with the burden of leadership and the moral implications of his actions. The visual effects and immersive create a thrilling experience.

At the center of the story is Asa Butterfield's compelling portrayal of Ender Wiggin, whose complex character arc explores themes of identity, empathy, and the consequences of violence. Supporting performances from Harrison Ford as Colonel Graff and Viola Davis as Major Anderson add depth to the ensemble cast, while Ben Kingsley's enigmatic turn as Mazer Rackham provides a pivotal emotional resonance to the narrative.

The film prompts viewers to ponder questions about the nature of power, the morality of preemptive strikes, and the blurred lines between heroism and villainy. We are looking forward to your thoughts about this film. What did we miss?

I'd recommend reading the book if you enjoyed this story. They obviously need to cut stuff down to fit into a film format and there are just a lot of inner thoughts from Ender that you just don't get to see here. You also get a ton more battle school content and there is an entire army promotion that didn't get mentioned at all in the film between Salamander and when he got command of Dragon. The entire series is fantastic. This next bit is somewhat of a spoiler for the book but since you now know what happens in the movie you might like to know. They don't address this specifically in the film but that "28 days till fleet arrival" is meant to portray when the real fleet arrives within range to be detected by the formics. That's just them basically entering their airspace and they are weeks out from the home planet. The first few weeks of Ender at command school was indeed him running simulations vs Mazer but once the fleet arrived within range of the formics every other "game" he played was real. That's why Ender got berated by Mazer and Graff like you saw in one of the battles prior to the home world scenario. Ender even has a thought to himself in the book about how Mazer completely steps his game up one day and the difficulty of the "simulation" increased. For weeks Ender was commanding real ships without knowing it and it was only revealed to him after he "won the game"

I can't remember if I watched this movie in the theater or not but I do remember crying at the end. I have not seen it in a long time and I still like it, a lot. The cinematography, the music, the VFX. And the acting is pretty good. I honestly forgot Viola Davis & Nonso Anozie are in this. I discovered both of them here. I know Viola Davis more from How to Get Away with Murder but she's amazing in everything, one of the best actresses out there. Same from Ben Kingsley. Nonso Anozie is in a tv show called "Zoo". If you haven't watched it, you should. This is Asa Butterfield breakthrough role, he was so young. Definitely a twist on the typical invasion SF plot, I really like it, brilliant storyline. Read the book after watching the movie 10 years. I think it's a good adaptation even tho they cut a lot out of it. Fun Fact: the author did a voice cameo.
