Greetings Plastic Party Patrons!
Here is the early release for our newest single 'SPARK!' - set to be released everywhere this Friday, Sept 30th. (and yes DarthTroll, it'll be available on DEEZER)

This song is a bit of a love letter to early 80s synth pop.  It's a mixed bag of influences including Madonna, Eurythmics, and Depeche Mode, with an extra helping of Plastic! The song started as a simple loop Chicken Burger Disco sent over, basically the opening 20 seconds of the song.  We sat on it for a long time knowing we had something special (to us anyway) but weren't sure what to do with it exactly.

In the end we decided to go very minimal with everything and just let the song vibe to itself. The song has a natural progression of adding in subtle changes to the arrangement. The first verse and chorus are very sparse.  By the second verse we sprinkle in a vocal synth, and then the magic really happens when the strings shimmer into the second half of the second verse.  We topped it off with Tyson doing vocoded background vocals at the end that are a nod to the backup vocals in "Material World" by Madonna... except we updated them to say, "Virtual World".

Lyrically the song is a bit of trick.  Just listening to the words, it sounds like a song about unrequited love, or a missed connection.  The song is actually about a person obsessed with their devices and being connected to the internet. When you look at it that way it becomes very obvious. "Isn't this refreshing, I need to know now" - "I just need to hold you, so shiny and new" - etc etc..

We hope you enjoy this one. It's a bit of a departure for us musically; a bit more of a pop song that we are used to, but it was a fun challenge and a song we are very proud of.

Lyrics for SPARK!
----------------------------------

I've been waiting for you

My heart is a mess

I've been looking for you

My head is a mess

You are my obsession

Just can't get enough

One lasting impression

It's never enough

Isn't this refreshing

I need to know now

Always keeps me guessing

A victim of now

I just need to hold you

So shiny and new

I just need to touch you

And it's nothing new

It only takes a Spark!

It only takes a Spark to start

It only takes a Spark!

It only takes a Spark to start

I've been waiting for you

My heart is a mess

I've been looking for you

My head is a mess

You are my obsession

Just can't get enough

One lasting impression

It's never enough

Isn't this refreshing

I need to know now

Always keeps me guessing

A victim of now

I just need to hold you

So shiny and new

I just need to touch you

And it's nothing new

It's nothing new - It's nothing new

It only takes a Spark!

It only takes a Spark to start

It only takes a Spark!

It only takes a Spark to start

Somewhat ironic that the song is about the obsession with devices/the internet and I respond almost immediately to this post. My watch informed me and I deemed the notification important enough to check it out. Chorus is stuck in my head now, catchy song!

Wow I hear a bit of British Synth Pop Yaz in this too. Reminds me of their Upstairs at Erics album.

The Fantastic Plastics

oh yeah YAZ / Depeche Mode connection is nice!!! Vince Clarke played our song Neon Satellite on his radio show a couple of years ago. It was really mind blowing!
