Hey everyone. Quick update on what I'm up to.

So I've finished all three Dead Space games. Phew, that was a lot of zombies! I also had to go back to games to play bits on harder difficulty modes, and remind myself how the older games played.

I might have to play some more still, and would also like to check out Extraction, as well.

Anyway, I took so many notes and have so much to cover that I've decided to split the video into three, roughly-10-minute-long episodes. I hope to release them about a week apart, starting later this month. The scripts are getting towards completion.

I'll only be charging for one video, obviously!

Should be a fun, different thing for me. It will be my 50th episode of Game Maker's Toolkit so a good time to try something a bit different.

Also, thanks to everyone who recently joined up to the Patreon because of the GameClub shoutout in the last episode.

Let's do another one in May - which means I'll be back before the month is out with a vote for the next game. I've got lots of ideas for games we could play but if you have any suggestions, feel free to throw them at me in the comments

That's all. See ya around!

Did you play DS3 in co-op, or single player? Some of the most interesting parts of DS3 are only available if you're playing co-op. In particular, the co-op only missions do some really cool stuff with one player's character hallucinating while the other player doesn't see anything happening.

Awesome. Just saw your tweet and hopped onto Patreon hoping you'd give us the scoop!

Can't wait to watch all three parts of the video! Coincidentally, I've been watching a playthrough of Dead Space and was really impressed by the implementation of the HUD in-game rather than being flat on the screen. I'm wondering what kind of games we'll be voting for/playing this time around? Personally hoping to play Beat em' Ups. Just been really into them recently; Shank and Senran Kagura on the 3ds to be exact.

Have you ever considered The World Ends With You in GMT? I think it would be interesting since it makes so many things differently than any other game, especially the DS version with the 2 screen battle system

Couple suggestions for Game Club. First is The Sexy Brutale which is available for PS4, XB1 and PC and has a Majora's Mask style time loop mechanic. Second is Stories Untold which is a spooky text adventure compilation I've heard about recently. Includes 4 games and the first one is available as a demo too on Steam.

I'd love a discussion on Inside.

I'd recommend Gunpoint, Mark of the Ninja or Frozen Synapse for the next GameClub

For a newer game The Sexy Brutale just came out, and like Stevie said its got a cool groundhogs day, time loop thing going for it. As for classics I would like to play maybe System Shock 2 or Theif, but those games do have longer run times. Excited for the Dead Space videos!

Excellent! I recently re-purchased all 3 for the 360 as I missed them so much. Managed to beat Hardcore in DS2 and beat DS1 on the hardest difficulty (Zealot?) with only the plasma cutter for a challenge run. Not as hard as I thought, the plasma cutter is a beast. DS3... hmm. Bit of an odd one that. Doesn't fit too well with the other two. Keep up the great work Mark.

Everyone has great suggestions for the next game club game! Can't remember whether or not Brothers: A tale of two sons has been covered on this channel but that would be a fun one to pick apart for its storytelling through mechanics and animation. I've already played it but would also enjoy a new game to play for next month that I can discuss with others here!

Great content and updates as always! As for the next GameClub, I'd like to suggest Jet Set Radio. I've never played it, but it's a generally beloved game, and I for one would like to analyze why.

Loved the first Dead Space so much. Amazing sound design.

WHOA WHOA WHOA.... You're doing THREE videos on Dead Space??? My favorite franchise ever??? How did I miss this!?!?!

Definitely check out Extraction! Probably has the best characters, and a nice way to see similar ideas to the main series expressed with different gameplay.

I would only hope that the game is not a huge AAA game. for one because those generally require a lot of time investment but for two because I don't want to spend a lot of money and I bet a lot of people would feel the same. I'd love something really narrative-focused in the vote, see if other people are enthused about the idea of examining the plot of something, and if not then we won't vote for it.

Hey Mark, how about a video on remakes? Something along the lines on understanding the balance needed for a remake (preserving the old material vs tweaking with contemporary design). Not sure if there's enough content to develop a whole video on that, since in a way you kind of covered it with the Shovel Knight video. But Wonder Boy III The Dragon's Trap is coming next week so I think it might worth a shot :)

I agree with Julian something either older or a cool indy game to save our budgets! Also time! Perhaps not this time round, but maybe a multiplayer game club could be great. If properly organised patrons could play against each other in a classic or indy multiplayer game.

May I suggest Rainworld for the gameclub? came out recently and I am just loving it. it is a Metroidvania game where you are trying to survive as a creature low on the foodchain, so there is a bit of a survival condiment to the exploration based gameplay, it has an oldschool Out of this world feeling to it, but the animations are all procedural, you explore the world in short bursts and the enemies never have the same placement, but the world is consistant. lots of lovely little details

It should be noted how well Dead Space 3 handled multiplayer. 2 player co-op (the second player controls another character from the main story) fully integrated into the main campaign. I'm so sick of single player games ramming in half assed competitive multiplayer where it doesn't belong.
