I decided to make little badges for the five games in my most recent episode. They mix iconography from the games themselves, with a twist to match the innovative mechanic.

So, the Hitman duck but made elusive. The Oxenfree speech bubbles but with interruptive symbols. The Overwatch logo but with a rewind symbol. The Darkest Dungeon torch turned into a bummed out skull. And a crosshair with a clock face.

I thought that was the best one but actually found, mid edit, that io Interactive is using a similar symbol for the Hitman elusive targets. D'oh! The Darkest Dungeon one is cool but overly complicated compared to the rest.

Anyway, here they are - both as sketches and as the finished vector art. I hope you like them.

These ones are just for fun, really, but I'm also experimenting with symbols in other videos. You might have seen four in the most recent Boss Keys to show the four criteria for assessing find- and follow-the-path dungeons.

I think it's useful to break stuff down into key components when you're learning things - so I did it with immersive sims (agency, systems, emergence, consistency, reactivity). But as a visual learner, I find it easier to remember images than words. So that's why I'm playing with these icons.

This is so cool! You should use it more often.

I have to say, the visual flair you put into these videos is always killer. It's cool to see the before and after on some of these and to see some of the smaller details broken down. It hadn't even dawned on me that the Overwatch rewind symbol was actually a conversion of the logo itself with the broken circle. Very cool.

Nice! I had originally written that if you wanted to simplify the DD torch, you could put the affliction halo around it, but that symbol is already in the game, lol. In fact, it's right in the name. Looks like your vid about centering a game around a main mechanic rings true even down to the logo. And yeah, the other ones really do have a certain elegance to them.

Was really impressed by these when I saw them in the video. They all look fantastic! Do you know any tutorials for learning vector art? I honestly don't have any clue on how to even remotely achieve the flaming skull icon.

Thanks - i'll try and put something together. I am no expert at all, I only learned it for the controller episode earlier this year. But maybe my newbie approach would be good for some sort of tutorial
