Hey. So I got a weird email from Patreon. "We asked your patrons which question they’d like you to answer most," they said. Which is a bit weird. Thanks, Patreon, I guess?

But hey, I'm not doing anything right now so I might as well answer these questions. Let's see...

38% - What’s something you really care about?

Okay, that's a bit vague. Well in terms of video games, I care about innovation. I'm always on the look out for games that are doing something new. Pushing the boundaries. Giving us experiences we haven't had before.

Games like Shadow of Mordor with its crazy enemy AI that leads to crazy unique stories. Or Brothers, which tells a story on the controller. Or Papers, Please, which uses its systems to show you how good people can slip into corruption. I'm excited about VR and advancements in AI and just good old fashioned creativity in design.

But maybe you mean outside of games. My second love is film - I'm obsessed with movies. But my tastes are maybe a bit niche. Let's just say I haven't seen a super hero movie since Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm more into indie stuff.

Some of my favourite movies of recent years include Buzzard (a scheming slacker makes a wolverine claw out of a NES power glove), The Overnight (about inadvertent swingers), Welcome to Me (a mentally unbalanced lottery winner buys herself a TV show), Man from Reno (a compulsive noir with an Asian twist), and Wild Canaries (a mumblecore indie that turns into a crazy screwball comedy).

And I also care deeply about my family, about making these darn videos, about looking after nature, about history, and, I dunno. Robots?

22% - What are you working on next?

So you might remember a while back that I tried Hitman for the first time and didn't really get it. What you might not have expected is that I've now spent roughly 20 hours playing the first two episodes of the game.

God it's good. And so I'm working on a video about that. How Hitman turns you into a methodical, silent assassin worthy of Agent 47.

I'm also "working" on playing Uncharted 4 a lot. This game is astoundingly beautiful, and as expected it's a rollercoaster ride. It doesn't do much new (though, props to the more complicated climbing and the improved stealth) but what it does it does well.

Not a lot of killing, I've noticed! The game seems way more focused on exploration, climbing, puzzles, and driving - with only brief spells of gunplay. I'm not complaining, but it's certainly interesting.

May has been my first month where I've been able to spend some weekdays working on GMT (all down to you guys, of course! Thank you!) and right now I'm figuring out what that means for me.

I shoooould use the extra time to take it easy. Get my weekends back (previously I was spending almost every spare second on the videos). But I doubt that will happen - so I'll soon be thinking of more things I can do.

16% - Can you share a sneak peek of something new?

Sure. Part of this Hitman video will involve me explaining a step-by-step explanation of a silent assassin run through Sapienza. I've spent today experimenting with ways to show this.

Just doing a bunch of cuts (I killed this guy - cut! - then stole this key - cut! - then climbed down a ladder - cut!) makes it hard to understand the space and has a horrible staccato pace. Speeding up the clips to compress 20 minutes of play down to 2 minutes of explanation turns it all into a nauseating blur.

So I've come up with a nice solution that shows my route through the level as a dotted line and then I can highlight important bits with little clips. I've embedded a draft version of this up above.

What do you reckon?

And finally! Got any more questions? Throw them at me and I'll try to answer them all - if I get a bunch maybe I'll do a quick video with the responses.

I'd be very curious to hear your thoughts about the games published by Telltale.

How did you get into games writing? Any advice for someone looking to get into it?

So you like robots and AIs. Did you ever read WaitButWhy? if not: hell, you totally should. I can link you a mindblowing series of posts about AIs!
