Commoners are salt of the earth people inhabiting the various hamlets, villages, hovels and huts strewn around any country, kingdom or frontier. They can be barbers, bakers, bar- or beekeepers, hard working and tax paying folks that may welcome adventurers with open arms into the midst of their society or keep a keen eye on any outsider encroaching on their territory, threatening to make the rapidly shortening remainder of their lives more interesting.

Variant Commoners
Commoners come in all shapes, colours and occupations. To reflect different Commoners, for example a smith, a street musician or a parish priest, feel free to switch around the 12 and the 9 in their Ability scores to reflect their differing capabilites. The Commoner depicted by the Statblock might be a construction worker or field hand, but feel free to adjust the values for your tailors, sailors or mailmen. You can also customize your Commoners by adding another Skill proficiency, a background feature or even a Level 1 class feature.
Improvised Weapons
An improvised weapon can be any blunt object, gardening tool or particularly hard loaf of bread used by an enraged Commoner in an attempt to stand their ground. This also encapsulates thrown bottles (broken or intact), table legs, tankards, fist-sized stones and even other, smaller, Commoners.
