For a very different William Wyler film, I recommend “The Best Years of Our Lives” from 1946. It deals with the lives of several different service people who return home after the second world war.

lmao, don't feel bad you two. xD I'm in the same boat as you - I've got nothing going into this. Hold up! You both don't know Charlton Heston?! xD Wow! hahaha, kid's these days! ((saying that as a 36 year old)) George's prediction is what I expect as well. lmao, love Simone's prediction. lol! I'm pretty sure that this movie includes an intermission. That's when you go take a leak. xD It's all good. At least thee music in this will be cool. "Yeah, I just thought this was a chariot movie!" xD George you're great. rofl, Simone! You're so impatient. :P hahahahaha, love this! You both are so great. Thank you! lol, I needed this today. I imagine that a lot of it was people settling into their seats and all of that, yeah. I'm watching a 1080p version of this movie and it looks incredible. Hard to believe that this was made when it was. Supportive father is nice. :) I really like that. xD Even if dude isn't getting his table right away. :P I don't have Life of Brian in my head at all while watching this. I'm thankful. xD Simone - why?! xD hahaha xD You and me both George! That's what came to mind when they said his full name. Really respect their acting! They're both so genuine and kind/fun with eachother. Nothing but positive vibes. :) That was some impressive throwing! Yeah, no, I see this brotherhood coming to an end. At this time Roman thought and culture were supreme. Their friendship was beautiful at the start of this. They really showed that they cared for each other. The way it all turned out was terribly sad. His charisma is definitely his strongest feature. That dress was definitely the same as blood diamonds, yeah! That horse was BEAUTIFUL! Friendship shattered - 100% lol, I wish that I was using subtitles for this. Not sure what the word was that he used that sounded similar to Simone. Charlton Heston's smile is magnificent. Totally a big reason why he was so successful. Times were very different then. "I will learn to love him." She's very beautiful! This writing is SPICY and especially for this time/era! WOW! Charlton Heston must've been a heart throb for the ladies then. :) That was very beautiful, agreed. That scene hit me emotionally. lol, I don't like it! xD 100% with you Simone! That was purely beautiful and touching. Oh - right! I remember hearing about that, George. No idea if this was colorized after it was made. This looks like it'd be the actual colors. OH FUCK NO! God damn, that's bad. :( Big giant yikes. Seeing reason and following it are two very different things. He's making a fantastic escape! Incredible luck and strength for sure. Only to encounter his old betrayer friend. "Good lord," George? Really? lol, words choice, my guy. :P I'm clueless as far as this story goes in The Bible as well, George. xD I'm coming to the same realization George. lol, good times. Plus yeah, if we saw His face it wouldn't really make any difference to us - nobody knows what His face actually looked like. :P George!! That made me LAUGH!! "What's faster? Retreat speed!" xD Then after he increases it AGAIN with ramming speed. DansGame - This scene is brutal. Wow! Glad it's over. lol, I'm glad you said that Simone! It was funny AND necessary! :) Charlton Heston was certainly a manly man! Really admire his character. I think his name was Proximo, George. I could be wrong though. xD I don't think Rome was known for their naval combat George. :P The way that they filmed this is done SO WELL! Incredible amounts of respect to all who made this film, because wow! Those horses were amazing in this! Oh that was satisfying! It makes me so happy knowing that he got what was coming to him. The Hobbit very well could have! This is an amazing film that's obviously remembered by many. Did he say leppers? Yeah, I guess that he did. Right, George. Tale of Christ obviously includes leprosy on some level. Them having leprosy is heartbreaking. </3 I'm in tears over here! :( This movie has strong impact! I love that they're begging for her not to tell him of them - for his sake and nothing else. It's a very positive thing! Well, the most positive thing that can be in a situation like this. I think leprosy was seen as a curse of negativity on top of the sickness. She's telling him that she saw them! Oh - telling of their death. :( At least her story is believable.. but that will not lower his fury or calm his aching heart. Vengeance will be had! I'm here for that vengeance! HOLY SHIT!! Amazing time for an intermission. Seriously, props to the people who made this. This is an awesome movie! I'm really enjoying this. It really makes me feel so happy that you're both seeing the value in this movie! I'm loving this so far! :) Watching this sort of movie makes me feel happy that this exists in this world. lol, yeah! That was the perfect slide for that seat. lmao, I don't know what a Talent is in their time but I'm guessing that it's valuable. lol, no Simone - not valuable enough to cripple the Roman army. lmao - that was a random question Simone! No - Arnold never was in a chariot. Those horses are gorgeous for sure. <3 The level of honor that they have for horses is pretty great. Obviously it's deserved. Really like that bit with The Star of David! :) Shows great respect to the Jewish faith. lmao, here's your chariot scene George! xD I wasn't looking forward to this - I've been highly entertained all throughout. Oh come on George! I don't think that's necessarily true in this film. This scene is magnificent! That's the first word that came to mind when seeing this. The set is gorgeous. It makes me question how much of this is actually real vs. being set pieces. I always have to admire when a film can do that! The people who made this film were top fucking notch! For it's time I'd say that this movie held those records! I'm in awe over here with how well everything is presented and made. That stunt work was incredible! I'm not sure how this scene was made George! However it was done - it's thrilling and incredible! HOLY FUCK that collision was BRUTAL! My jaw hit the floor when it happened. The bit after with the collision between two chariots - that COULDN'T happen today with horse safety and all that! THAT STUNT WAS INCREDIBLE!! Really, thank you both for doing this movie! I'm so entertained by this. GET FUCKED, ASSHOLE!! He may not be dead - oh, lmao - he lived. Great point Simone - sand in wounds is bad news bears. Being drug through it at high speeds by horses is even worse. That victory was incredible. It was so well earned. Agreed, George. They did an incredible job displaying his dimming eyes. I don't want that to happen either Simone but he must feel some type of anger for her after not hearing about his family. His anger for her is understandable but he must respect their wishes, right? I mean - it isn't like her can help them at this point. Once you have leprosy it's a done deal, right? I'm not 100% on that but that's what I think, at least. Mmhmm, George. This film is so damn moving! Wow. I'm so impressed by how well made this movie is. This film may take the cake for my top favorite classic film. I'm not certain that Jesus will work that miracle for Judah but would love it if He did. Now - I'm not a religious person. This is movie is doing an incredible job at displaying Jesus while also at the same time not. I love that this film isn't showing His face. The writing for this is so damn great! "It's as though you've became Massala!" Wow! That line was brutal and honest from her point of view. This is HEARBTREAKING! I hope that they're going that route and with when this film was made I've got to think that that's what's going to happen. They did a great job displaying her leprosy. It wasn't too over the top, which is what I'd expect for an older film like this. This is very sad but with less than twenty minutes left in the movie I've got to believe that they'll find Jesus and be healed. This movie has it all! I'm very impressed that they've taken the choice to black out his face entirely. I feel the same as you do George. This film has been thoroughly entertaining without a thought of it being a religious film for the first good long bit. I'm impressed. The crucifixion scene is silent, yeah. I'm not sure if I've ever seen it represented in this way, either. That shaky camera in the cave was very well done. Not over the top and it was brief enough to display what was happening. They're healed! :D Yup - okay. This is now my top favorite classic film. Citizen Kane held that for the longest time - nearly 20 years! This is now my favorite classic film. :) lmao, I'm right there with you George! I didn't expect this to happen but I feel so much joy that it did. lol, I wish that I had a pet to cuddle with right now! :( I miss my doggo so much! :'( Very happy that you've got your cat Simone. <3 I was so well entertained all throughout - minus the overture. Everything was so well done. Absolutely beautifully made film. THAT CHARIOT SCENE - HOLY FUCK! It was so damn tense and I don't have the words to describe my feelings or thoughts! It's really rare for a movie to do this for me. WHAT THE FUCK, GEORGE?! 15,000 extras?! Yeesh. So impressive! $15,000,000 in those days is something INSANE! Obviously it paid off. $160,000,000 isn't a jaw dropping amount for today's world. MGM gambled and won big! xD That quote's hilarious. "It took a Jew to make a good movie about Jesus." lmao, good stuff! The chemistry between those two actors was INCREDIBLE! I'm having trouble thinking of another pair of people that were that amazing on film. Wonderful job, you two! This reaction ranks so high for me. I love that you both enjoyed this as much or more than I did. This was also my first go with this epic but yeah I am so thrilled to have watched this film with you guys. :) lol, I don't know if I'd of had the patience to sit and watch this entire thing solo. So yeah, whoever voted for this - THANK YOU!! :)

Y'all already did my favorite big Hollywood epic (Lawrence of Arabia), but I'd love to see more. Bridge over the River Kwai, The Great Escape, Doctor Zhivago, Fiddler on the Roof, etc.

Simone is referencing "Chariots of Fire", which is about Olympic runners.

To answer Simone's question, the credits did say it was shot in Technicolor, which was, yes, in color.

As I mentioned lower down, there is no "Vatican Approved list of Films" as such. The only list ever published by the Church concerning movies it likes is called “Some Important Films For the 100th Anniversary of Cinema”: https://ucatholic.com/blog/the-vaticans-official-list-of-some-important-films-you-should-watch/ Remember, the Vatican, or rather, the "Holy See of Rome" as the governing body of Vatican City, only speaks for the Roman Catholic Church and not all of Christianity of which there are many sects.

Wayne Kryka

Frank Thring who played Pontius Pilate, played a prominent part in MAD MAX: BEYOND THUNDERDOME (1985) with Mel Gibson and Tina Turner. https://youtu.be/n6cWYy8EoY8?si=Rik1DYbwYuJ6KtId

Spoiler! But yes it’s a great character.. Speaking of “Pontius Pilate,” I’ve always heard the name (during Catholic school, mostly) pronounced as “Pon-chus Pi-Lat” (or “pilot”).

Talking about movies that hit on a deeper level, and are amazing in style and scope, is there any chance I could convince you both to watch a 1979 Soviet science fiction film directed by Andrei Tarkovsky called "Stalker"? The title makes it sound somewhat ominous (and on metaphysical levels, it kind of is), but it's not the kind of stalker you might be thinking of. I don't want to ruin it or give anything away, but it's one of the most amazing films in terms of style and philosophical thought I've ever seen, and gives you a lot to think about. I know there will be people here who are fans of the film, and I think it would be great for you to watch, just because of how far reaching the influence of this film, and the directors entire body of work, has been.

It's also available to be watched for free on Youtube, which will help yourselves and other folks here watch it, as I don't know if there is a streaming service which hosts it.

This has been a favorite of mine since I was a young lad. There is a Cohen brothers movie called Hail Caesar! Which is a great watch, about the studio system in this era.

Christ isn't a name. It is a title. Spoken properly it is not Jesus Christ, it is Jesus THE Christ. There ya go. The thing about Christian films is that they are either magnificent and impactful, or they are absolute shit. There is no in-between.

I'm such a jerk. I was thinking as the blood washed away in the rain that they should be bottling it up, because it'll be worth a fortune, or may have healing powers, or could be thrown at enemies to destroy them. When he was hugging his family at the end, I was wondering if they were actually cured, or just asymptomatic carriers now, like Typhoid Mary. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a play, and later a film, with the characters played by Tim Roth and Gary Oldman. They were childhood friends of Hamlet in the Shakespeare story, but just background characters. In this story they're the main characters, and Hamlet is happening in the background. Might be worth a watch, but others will have to weigh in, because it's been forever, and ISTR it was boring. I was young, though, so it may be better than I recall.

So you actually have seen films that Charlton Heston was in, it's just that his roles were smaller in the later years of his life. He was in an episode of Friends titled "The One with Joey's Dirty Day". He narrated a few parts of Disney's Hercules, he was Spencer in True Lies, and he was Henry Hooker in Tombstone. He's also credited as "Good Actor" for a cameo in Wayne's World 2. I definitely recommend the original Planet of the Apes and The Omega Man (1971).
