It's still a gorgeous movie (the effects are fantastic -- the tornado knocks me out still today)! What I find so interesting is that the books are about Dorothy discovering this magical world she yearns for, while the movie's message is "don't explore the world, home is all you need." (It would have been a great movie to show poor Truman in "The Truman Show" to encourage him not to want to leave home!) I still love it, and the score is classic, and the performers were all amazing, led by Judy Garland, who won a miniature Oscar for her performance. The Wicked Witch (who was fantastically played by Margaret Hamilton) is indeed the character Gregory Maguire expanded on and named Elphaba in his novel "Wicked" (later adapted into the musical, although I can't forgive it for messing with the book's ending). I hope you both feel better!
