Short, sweet and succinct, thanks for talking about it. Despite having my own ethical issues with generative ML (having worked for a company that built training models in the shadiest of ways) I have to agree with you that it's here to stay. It fulfills a need for both the consumer (speed of updates) and the developers (time, money, skill requirements, etc). My one major criticism of where it stands right now are some devs not fixing generated assets in post, and respect the ones that take the time to make them look good. Otherwise, seeing overlapping limbs or gibberish text feels sloppy and cash grabby, like they don't care about the quality of their product.

Do you know how dangerous early stocking frame knitting machines were? Early printing presses? Danger and disregard seem to be cornerstones of nascent progress and innovation.

The growing problem in Artificial Impersonation tech is that humans spend more time correcting its mistakes than it would take to do it yourself. Low level workers are figuring this out, while higher ups are still dreaming how much money they are saving with fewer workers. If you want to make an AVN, its faster and easier to use Daz Studio or Honey Select or just a pencil than AI. AI text is good for examples and suggestions but it always needs editing, and has no character on its own. I consider writing dialog my weak area, but I'm better than GPT. Sound effects and music via AI is garbage. There are multiple sources of royalty free high quality human generated audio. The only AI I found good enough for my games is character voicing via Eleven Labs, and it's not as good as real voice actors, but it adds enough to make it worth it.

The difference between textile mills and printing presses today is that one of the two is prohibitivly expensive for the average person to own and control. AI does not fall in the "prohibitively expensive" category, and a lot of that is thanks to OpenAI.

I'm not sure how that relates to the disruption that each technology initially brought. I can also easily make fire now or plant a garden.
