great episode - on the outsiders point - ive a book on liverpool police and until i think the 40s liverpool police could be from the city they recruited from the areas outside (wools) and wider - presumably to ensure no local ties - i don’t think that was unique

I know that there are also towns where the reverse is true -- police officers get tax breaks and so on to encourage them to live in town where living in the suburbs might otherwise be more affordable.
