Patreon supporter Jason asked me to talk about monsters from fantasy films of the 70s and 80s, so here I am with a look at my favourite fantasy movie monster -- what it is may surprise you!

Thank you for the thoughtful episode! I revisited both Deathstalker and Krull prior to commenting. Rewatching Deathstalker it is more “rapey” than I remembered, even the titular character falls in that trope! I should have given you warning ahead of time but I didn’t remember it being this bad, the sequel is a bit better in that respect as it is somewhat of a spoof of the original. Mind you I am the guy that referenced Hell Comes to Frogtown in a previous episode’s comments and my tastes run toward giallo and grind house / exploitation films so my film picks are probably questionable! I like Lucio Fulci’s Conquest and Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards as well... I found Krull to run a little long, 90 minutes would have been better, but you are 100% correct in that it is a good D&D movie. Certainly better than any that carry the title! The Black Fortress, Beast and Slayers would be a worth edition to a campaign. All in all a great episode!

I agree that Krull is maybe one set-piece too long; this is a common failing of movies that are not as serious as they seem to think they are! And yeah, I think it's a sign of thankfully changing times that we are often appalled when we go back and look at older sword-and-sorcery films.
