This is a picture I painted for the newly added ADVANCE Patreon "Discord Live". The mornings in Japan are late at night at many supporters' places, or suddenly start on a weekday to begin with, so not many people can see it yet😅. I'll adjust that part to fit my schedule, but even if no one is watching, I'll still go live. Because apparently I have found that it helps me focus.

I was studying layout based on this artist's advice, and before I knew it, I was studying texture expression using values. The chairs and mugs in the drawing at lower left are evidence of this. But it is because of this that the chair and mug stand out the most in this drawing. In other words, this demonstrates the technique of being able to control the area you want to show by the amount of information in the drawing. This technique can be seen in the drawing of the building below. Originally, the front of a building is more decorated than the sides, but when drawing, priority is given to the seen from the viewer's perspective (in this case, the side). Therefore, we have increased the amount of information seen from the side rather than the front, which does not show much.

This artist's work reminded me of the origins of my original love of painting. Situation, composition and shape, light and shadow. I particularly like these three elements, and the majority of her work is composed of them. If you look closely, you can see that her art is already complete with just the layout and contrast of light and dark (see the gray drawing in the upper right), instead of adding very little detail. This is awesome. And I think this is a common element in all art (at least the art I like).

Using her information, I tried a gradient map, which I had almost never used before (and had a hard time with a few times). I was reminded once again that this is a very deep technique, as you can control the impression of the work to an astonishing degree just by layering thin layers of it. I will need to do more research to see if it can be used for overpainting.

Also, I realized once again that adjusting the color and brightness a little bit at the end of the overlay is also effective in improving the final product. But instead of being fun, this has the risk of ruining the screen if it is overdone, so it needs to be used with caution.
