I actually consider the 1999 anime version Hunter x Hunter pretty good, it just adapts stuff very differently and has a different atmosphere and tone to the 2011 version, all in all I prefer the 2011 version because it adapts more arcs and looks a lot better and has better animation of course since its newer and less filler (basically none), though lots of the filler in the 1999 anime was actually very well-done, so yeah I wouldnt consider the 1999 anime adaption of Hunter x Hunter average, its pretty good actually, just that the 2011 version is way better. As for the manga, I wouldnt say its average either, the story and characters just like in both anime adaptions are much pretty much the same and good, and just as well done and good and well planned out, after all the manga is the source material. The problem with the manga comes from the pretty inconsistent art style and art, Togashi due to health reasons and probably other stuff too doesnt always have the best art, and it can be pretty inconsistent, but when its good, its good, and I I heard its been better recently, but still somewhat inconsistent so take that with a grain of salt. The manga it self, actually does certain scenes and stuff better, esp. when its comes to characterization sometimes, going more in-depth on stuff, and the gore and blood, basically some of the more gruesome aspects. So yeah, I overall think HxH is great across all aspects, I wouldnt say its average, I would say its above average all in all, esp with story and characters and themes, its mostly the art and animation that can be iffy esp. in the 1999 anime and manga (I still consider both good, though the 2011 anime is defin. the best of the 3 for the most part right now). The biggest issue really, besides art inconsistency, and inconsistency in general, is the very slow chapter releases, its like 10 or so chapters a year if ur lucky, and I think the manga is only about 2, maybe 3 volumes (I dont think its any more) ahead of the 2011 anime. So yeah, in my opinion, I would just wait, maybe read the HxH manga or do manga reactions once there is more chapters. Waiting is what Im doing, Im trying to hold out reading past the anime's ending at all till another anime adaption, because for one thing, the anime ending is actually pretty good for the most part, and I want that ending to stay cemented in my mind, and while I can still do that if I read the unadapted stuff from the manga, it would be harder to do so. Plus, I want when/ if there is another anime adaption for the new manga stuff being adapted to pretty much completely new to me, I know a new anime adaption is a long shot, and if it does ever happen, it wont be till a very, very, very long time, but hey Ive already waited like 5 years since the end of the 2011 anime, I can wait longer, I can hold out, I mean I did the same thing with the 1999 anime, after watching that, I had to wait a long time for the 2011 version, basically what Im trying to say is that I can be patient. If I cant wait super, super long for another anime anime adaption, I want to at least wait till there is quite a lot more chapters and volumes to read. So yeah, a little late on this, but my main advise to u is once ur done with the 2011 version of HxH, is to wait either for a new anime adaption or for more chapters/ volumes to come out, then read them and/ or do manga reactions then, or do both, like Im doing. I would also suggest watching the 1999 version of HxH if u ever get the time, probably in ur free time, after ur done with the 2011 version of course, I wouldnt expect u to do a reaction of that series since u already did one with the 2011 version, because while not as good as the 2011 version, its still really good in my opinion, and actually does some stuff just as good or better than the 2011 version, though I do like the the 2011 more overall. The 2011 anime adaption is also just a really good adaption, esp. while watching in sub, that it makes everything better, the 1999 version did the same, but the 2011 version just even more so, their just good adaptions. Im honestly just a fan of HxH overall. :) Sorry for such a long comment, and pretty late since the upload of this video, I just wanted to give my 2 cents on it, and it just happen that I needed a long comment in order to properly do so, anyways, have a nice day/ night. ^^
