Installation guide for Chromium browsers (Patreon)

How to install: (Chrome/Chromium)

The CharacterAI Tools extension works on any chromium based browsers (Opera, Opera GX, Brave, Vivaldi, Chrome, MS Edge, etc).

You must unzip the extension zip file in a fixed directory on your system (it must not be moved from there).

Then, in your browser you must go to the url and activate the developer mode:
chrome://extensions

After that, you can add your extension by clicking on this button, and selecting the folder where you unzipped your extension. (the directory containing the manifest.json file)

Your extension is now loaded and ready to enjoy!

How to update:

Download the new version and overwrite all files in the directory where you originally unzipped the extension.

Then you will have to go to the extension (at chrome://extensions) and click this button to apply the update: (version number should be updated)

It does not depend on the computer, but on the browser. It works on any chromium browser or nightly and dev versions of Firefox.

Okay, I'm quite confused. I followed the steps as instructed, but I can't see the extension zip file in my directory on my system. I don't think it was ever downloaded. Maybe I did something wrong?

I have now downloaded the CharacterAI Tools Chromium in my files, but I am unable to add it as a Chrome extension.

When you unzip the zip, depending on how you unzip it, you may have one or two subdirectories. You have to select the directory that contains the manifest.json file If this is not the problem you are having, can you tell me what error you are getting and what browser you are using? Yo, the thing works great, way better investment than C.AI+ lel. Any plans for making it work on the mobile app too? Or perhaps on Android browsers? I have Brave on my phone but it seems like they don't support extensions... Still making it work on the app would be much more convenient anyway.

With kiwi browser you can load the extension zip and it works on Android, but the view is not adapted to mobile so it is recommended to use it in desktop view (ideal for tablets). A mobile version is planned for the future.

I tested it now in kiwi on my phone. https://ibb.co/ZhFn1fd https://ibb.co/3zzksn7 (I can't add a line break here... Damn mobile pages!) When I use normal avatars they are mainly gone, the tool will somehow block the left part of the website, if I use big avatars it work a little bit better. Its btw important to reload a chat after entering it, thats how the plugin loads, no idea why it needs a reload.

I have not yet started with the mobile support. When I start with it, I will make sure that everything is displayed correctly. For now I imagine that it will only be displayed correctly in tablets and/or landscape mode.

Wide-screen would suck on a phone 😁. Having a tablet would not be bad. I gave my last tablet to my friend, that she can watch YouTube on it she only have a phone, no other screens.

I've tried Opera, chrome and firefox... but neither wants to accept anything. I think I'm missing something but not sure what.

Hello Nathan. What problem are you having? If you follow this guide (in this case for Opera or Chrome) make sure you choose the unzipped folder containing the manifest.json file. It depends on how you unzip the zip (with "extract to" or "extract here", it will create one or two levels of subdirectories). You must select the folder that contains the manifest.json file.

I downloaded the 1.3.1 version for Chromium browsers and both Chrome and Opera GX returns the "Manifest file is missing or unreadable" notification when I try to load the extension into them. Is there any way to solve this issue?

That happens because you are selecting the wrong directory. Keep in mind that if you extract using "Extract to" or "Extract here," you will get one or two levels of subdirectories. Make sure that the directory you select when loading the extension is the one that contains the manifest.json file, as the guide suggests.
