Hi fam!

We have another episode of Star Trek TOS today. Today's episode is The Mark of Gideon. This episode posed a dilemma - venerating life so much, that it STOPS life. What an episode...and what circumstances. What would you have done in this scenario? How would you have controlled the population? Or would you have? I'm curious to see all of your approaches to this dilemma!

Xoxo,

Sorry, but this episode....just no. For a start, why and how were the Gideons able to build such an exact duplicate of the Enterprise? What did they intend to do with it? Then we have the basic plot: Kirk finds himself on an apparently empty Enterprise. Spock has to find a way to get to him and perform a rescue. Kirk encounters a beautiful woman on the empty Enterprise, who needs his help. It's Wink of an Eye all over again, but with an 'overpopulation' plot replacing the 'accelerated time' concept. I think the first five minutes are intriguing - but after this, I'm left with the awkward feeling that they financially needed a story which only took place on existing Enterprise sets. Oh well - I have some trivia: the writer of this story was the actor who played the dodgy Tribble salesman, Cyrano Jones, in The Trouble with Tribbles. He wrote it with his son, and neither of them liked the final result! Apparently, their script didn't contain unanswered questions - but it was heavily altered by the producer ( presumably for budgetary reasons)

Great trivia as always!! Sorry it took so long to reply - dealing with a slipped disc. Thank for your comment Ian! 💛
