We're about 13 years late on this one, but we promise it's for good reason. See, Alan Wake 2 -- Remedy's long-awaited sequel to its 2010 one-time Xbox-exclusive horror game -- finally launches in late October. And it's given us cause to want to get back to it, especially after it became more easily accessible with the 2021 launch of Alan Wake Remastered on PS4 and PS5. (Indeed, it was on PS+ Essential one month a while ago, so you may already 'own' it.) Thus, I (Colin) solicited the assistance of two people in my orbit, Rick Hoeg and my brother Dagan. Rick is an Alan Wake superfan, and indeed it was his mention of the sequel during our Final Fantasy XVI conversation earlier this year that set this bug in my head to begin with. Dagan, on the other hand, is like me: New to the title and coming in with fresh eyes. Our chat is wide-ranging, spoils the game in its entirety, and is particularly careful to not talk about any parallel offerings that may ruin its wider universe (like American Nightmare, Quantum Break, Control, or whatever is known about Alan Wake 2 pre-release). In short, we love Alan Wake. It's unlike anything we've ever played. And while we eagerly-await the sequel, there's no time like the present to gush about the original.
