Well, it’s finally happened. Since January of 2022 it has been an absolute bloodbath, but now we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the Activision Blizzard deal. With the FTC vying for a preliminary injunction that would effectively lead to the death of this deal, the two opposing forces did battle in court. Following Microsoft's victory, the FTC has moved to appeal the decision as this saga continues. As the July 18th deadline quickly approaches, it's very possibly that by the next Defining Duke episode that we'll finally turn the page on this long winded chapter in Xbox history. Naturally, we had to tap an expert on the shoulder for all this and who better to ask all our crazy questions than Hoeg Law? Joining us, we go through the FTC's appeal process, the ongoing negotiations with the CMA, potential console exclusivity, Game Pass content, and so much more. It's Hoeg's first time back in the realm of the Dukes since December so be sure to give him a warm welcome! Furthermore, we get into the Xbox x IGN indie showcase which displayed a strong amount of diversity as Xbox seems to do of late. We also dig into Starfield's absolutely bonkers PC specs and get to the bottom of some uncertainties surrounding the game.

Dude, we're losing enough bees without people straight up destroying hives. Call someone!

Great to have Hoeg back, excited to check this one out

Lou & Rei Loper

I don't think the show needs a third person outside of occasional guests. You guys are doing a damn fine job. 👌

Wassup GOATS!!been waiting to this episode. As a mainly PS player I’m so happy this is done and just excited to see what they do now that they have all the power.

Alex Roberts

Awesome to have Hoeg on for this.

Also- must admit it’s really sad that as soon as this deal comes through the thinking is “ Ight now what are Microsoft going to acquire !!” Such a strange take in my opinion

Tonys_Always_Write

It's not really a take, Microsoft / Xbox themselves have said they are going to continue to Acquire. And if that's the case there's nothing wrong with having a preference on who it would be.

A Hind D

Sure I guess. Or you could be like “ wow we just acquired 100 different studios we could invest in these studios and try to get some good games out. Instead of …now what else can we buy” I don’t think this is a wild thing to say?

Michael

So glad Hoeg is back and doing well. He sounds like he’s a million times better than when he was on Sacred+ a couple months back.

PsychCoffee

Another great episode Dukes! It was great to see Hoeg again and while I understand your decision to not get a third person for the podcast, I think Hoeg could be a great addition to the team as the third, just saying. :) As always thanks for the good content.

Yeah Hoeg is always entertaining. Either Hoeg or Miles Dompier (Window Central guy they had on the podcast once before) would be ideal imo.

I sincerely enjoy the banter Matty and Cog have on a weekly basis. They’re kind of why I joined the patreon. I was in Philly doing a mobile job back in December and for some reason the show wouldn’t stream on Apple Podcasts. I had nothing else to listen to during my 1 hour 20 minute drive home so I decided to join the Patreon and I don’t regret it one bit. I enjoy every single show that Last Stand Media puts out. Matty and Cog is the GOAT duo 🐐

Deemac

Yep, especially when they've continually showed they have issues managing their already large slate of studios - and now adding ABK into that too? Now that this saga is coming to an end finally, I'd have thought it'd be a good time for them to actually get their shit in order in-house, and start getting the best out of their huge roster. Just moving on to the next big acquisition would really leave a bad taste in my mouth, and leave me worried about the quality of gaming in the future.

The Central Long Islander

The “Matty not having cogs back narrative” isn’t people wanting to start anything. It’s a legit point people are making. Matty could’ve respectfully said, “jaffe if you think a pic inhibits Cog from giving his honest opinion, it’s clear you don’t listen to defining duke or ILP.” The point jaffe made is def valid, but it’s not valid when it comes to cog, because if you listened to any of his shows you would know he gives you his real opinions regardless of a picture.

The thing with hosts is you never know until time has passed. I never thought Col & Chris needed a 3rd and then Dustin proved me wrong in time. I don’t think you guys need a 3rd, but I could also see it being better in some ways. Heck, even adding Hoeg at the end was great. Shout out to Hoeg. #DDHoeg

Congrats on the move Matty! I moved out at 23 but I had a uh family life that is not preferable is what I'll say. It's hard out there these days, don't care what others say for moving out at your age. Also took you up on your Jade Empire suggestion last week! Good stuff so far Edit: Congrats on the bee sting matty!

Quinn

Matty wasn't given the opportunity to respond in all fairness, not without creating an awkward - overly defensive - moment. Colin swept up the discussion immediately after Jaffe's 2nd comment was made in response to Matty. I respect him not leaping into the discussion, despite getting protective and wanting to defend Cog as he said last episode, and instead giving it a chance to settle.
