Welcome back to another episode of Punching Up! Nintendo has a spotty history of backwards compatibility. We've seen examples where they went above and beyond, like on the Wii with GameCube backwards compatibility, but also completely left the prior console behind, like NES to SNES. However, the world has changed, and we have a glimmer of hope that Nintendo is changing with it. Recently, during a shareholder's meeting, it seems like Nintendo intends to bring our accounts forward with their "next-generation console." Does this mean our games and purchases are safe, or are we doomed to repurchases and upgrade fees? We have a ton more to cover this week too! Everybody 1-2 Switch is a disaster and a baffling release, and new Sega Genesis games have been added to NSO! We also packed in a ton of write-ins. Should you play the original Super Mario RPG before the remake? What would our ideal Switch accessories be? Did we enjoy the Pikmin 4 demo? Listen now and enjoy.

Great fuckin episode guys. I love this show!

Tonys_Always_Write

Can't agree with the Voicover complaint for Direct's at all.... If I were an indie dev I'd be ecstatic my game was shown next to the next mainline Mario game.

Captain Kidd

Great episode as always y’all! Thank you Micah for mentioning the gift giving aspect of physical games. As a parent, giving a digital game just feels wrong.

Jacob

STRONG stand down to Micah on her KK Slider hate. no other hits?? kk house, stale cupcakes, my place. c’mon!

Darth Simon the Pieman

I wish in the outro Dustin said, "All music was made by Collins best friend Ramon...." lol

Gabriel Baker

Context for Gene’s comment at 1:14:30 The Nintendo DS was backwards compatible with the GameBoy Advance, and the 3DS accepted DS cartridges even through they had a different form factor. The Switch and Next-Gen Machine could be very similar to the DS/3DS cartridges.

Surge!

I can't wrap my head why people want remakes of games so beloved to them. To each their own I suppose.

The Devmeister

The device Dustin was referring to is called the Fixture S1 & S2 FYI.

Super Mario RPG is on the SNES Classic Console!!! It’s the most authentic experience you’ll get today.

Greg McDonald

It would be pretty funny when Dustin does the closing credits if he referred to Ramon as "my best friend, Ramon Narvaez"

Another banger. Agree with the listener who wrote in saying that the show has helped rekindle an interest in Nintendo and especially the specific JRPGs that get so much love on the show. I'm seriously thinking about starting Xenoblade Chronicles 3 if I can find the time (but I don't think I can commit to doing 1-2-3).
