Watched this earlier on YouTube and I loved it. After hearing you praise games like Reverie and Time Spinner (which I haven’t heard anything about literally anywhere else) I know I need to check them out. I can always count on you for great recommendations as well as top notch content. And hell, now I want to make my own list! Have a good day, Colin.

Looks cool!))) Happy New Year!)))

Kenneth thomas

I'm totally with you on Celeste. It's really cool and clever, but I mean, what's the huge deal here

MeatSpin11

Added Timespinners to my wish list. I know you mentioned in on SS, but I really enjoyed seeing gameplay from the video. Can really see the Castlevania inspiration that I'm digging.

Owen

For me it was the best platforming game I've played in years.

Owen

In no particular order some great games from 2018 - Celeste, Messenger, Spider-Man, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, Valkyria Chronicles 4, RDR2, and CoD Black ops 4 (specifically Blackout mode).

Anonymous

Downloaded Timespinners based on your list. It’s pretty great!

John Fazio

My wife just bought me Detroit for Christmas and it is definitely one of my top 3 this year. Speaking of which on Christmas Day the main menu lady wished me a merry Christmas and said maybe Santa got me an Android. Very cool attention to detail. Pretty neat that most people probably will never see that.

Trent Miller

I love how you have games on here that I’ve never heard of like Timespinners that looks really sweet... I need to check that one out.

strawhatninja

Great list Colin! I'm glad you ordered them this time I like seeing you rank stuff. I'm glad you acknowledged Dragon Quest XI it was my personal game of the year. I also encourage you to give Octopath Traveler a try. I know it's a Switch exclusive but it has very old school jrpg vibes so I think you might enjoy it.

I agree with the majority of your list but I wouldn't put Red Dead so high myself. I really enjoyed my time with it and it's a technical masterpiece but I felt the missions were too rigid and if you tried to deviate even a little bit from the way the devs wanted things to play out, you get an instant mission failure which feels pretty outdated compared to other games like AC:Odyssey and MGSV letting you tackle quests how you want. Going to try out Timespinner though. Looks awesome. Can't believe no one else has talked about it.

LastStandMedia

Yeah, there's all sorts of cool stuff layered in Detroit. I'm glad you finally got a chance to check it out. =)

LastStandMedia

I love sharing what I've played with everyone for this exact reason. You really should check it out. It's awesome!

LastStandMedia

Yeah, I felt like not ordering them -- while well-intentioned -- was maybe a bit of a cop-out last year. So I went ahead and did the hard work. =) I dunno, man. I just have zero drive to play Switch.

LastStandMedia

Yeah dude, Timespinner is easily this year's hidden gem, as far as I'm concerned. RDR2... I dunno. It's just a master class, I think.

Cameron O'Neill

A lot of peopled talked up the Vita and said they were supporters of it, yet I don't see any of them playing it or even talking about it at all these days. I think you are the lone inhabitant of Vita island and as someone who still plays it on a daily basis, I really enjoy you still diving into the device and new catalogue of games. Thanks for all the hard work and congrats on an awesome 2018.

LastStandMedia

It's my lil' engine that could, that Vita. I will always love it, and always advocate for it!

Jose Garcia

You would. Lol I fucking loved this list/video. You fucking nailed it. Really appreciate the Timespinner referral btw

Jason Bolla

Fantastic list. Glad to see Timespinner do so well. If it finally launches this year, I foresee Heart Forth, Alicia making it's way into your 2019 list as well. Both Metroidvanias were Kickstarted around the same time. I remember it was actually mentioned on a PS I Love You XOXO episode, but it didn't sound like it really grabbed you at the time. I'd be interested in your thoughts when it actually launches.

Gary Huss

I’m in a group on twitter called VitaIsland with about 35 hardcore vita gamers. Hardcore as in own hundreds of vita games, some even have complete collections. There’s still a lot of active Vita gamers. The vita subreddit is still quite active as well.

Gary Huss

Just listened to this. Great list Colin. I agree 1000 percent on Detroit, after Horizon it’s my favorite ps4 exclusive. As for Timespinner, I was following that game since 2014 on Kickstarter when the 75k Vita stretch goal was announced. I’m happy it turned out great. Another game to keep an eye on, Heart Forth, Alicia. It’s gonna be fucking great, mark my words. Also, it’s still on track for Vita.

Brett Carlson

Hey Colin I have a New Years request for you lol. I was in the same exact boat with you on Celeste. I played a little while and couldn't grasp why it was being touted so highly. Just this weekend I decided to to pick it back up and just run through and beat it. And wow what a game. It captured really everything about the genre so beautifully and told a meaningful engaging tale that had impact for a platformer of this nature. Idk if you have already beat it , but if you haven't I would suggest you see it through.

LastStandMedia

You got it! I'm so glad I've gotten to turn a bunch of people onto Timespinner. It's a special game.

Theis Jensen

I agree that RDR 2 is the GOTY, and probadly one of my favorite games of all time. God of War is my runner up, with games like Spiderman and Monster Hunter and Smash also in the running. I also really liked Dead Cells and beating the final boss were one of the best moments I have had this year. I had a great time with Detroit and Assassins Creed Odyssey, and Detroit is the only game I have ever played through with my wife. I can also really recommend Into the Breach, The Messenger and Florence, what a year for Indies. The two games I need to play before I can make my final top 10 are Tetris Effect and Celeste.

LastStandMedia

I really need to get to Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but I'll wait for it to be on sale. Not gonna pay $60 for it! LOL. As for The Messenger, well... I'm waiting for its PS4 port. Thank you for watching!

William

Great list of games and as always, great video (I unfortunately I haven't jumped into Detroit yet, but once I finish the Spiderman DLC and The Messenger, I'm all in) :) Like many on this thread I had never heard of Timespinner, so I immediately downloaded it, and hoooollly hell, is it incredible. Such an awesome recommendation! I'll definitely be spreading the word out on this one :) With that being said, I know you'll love The Messenger when the drops on PS4, and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the game. Also...did you ever check out Cosmic Star Heroine? I know you talked about it years ago, and now that it's finally out, I haven't heard much on it :/

LastStandMedia

I'm so glad you (and others) are giving Timespinner a chance. What a fucking game! I will certainly play Messenger when it drops on PS4. Really looking forward to it. I played Cosmic Star Heroine around the time it came out on PS4. It was okay. I wasn't really crazy about it. It seemed kinda half-baked and -- dare I say -- a bit boring. Definitely not the Phantasy Star I was looking for.

William

Aw man, that's a bummer. I only played the first 15 minutes or so of Cosmic but never got back to it. It def gave me Chrono Trigger + Phantasy Star vibes which is pretty neat. I don't think it's too long, so I'll give it a go and see if it grabs me. Thanks for the reply Colin! :)

Patrick A Crone

It was $30 on PSN throughout the holidays. Didn't pull the trigger since my back catalog is shamefully big. I'm sure there's a dick joke that can be made with that last sentence

Mason Bechard

As a number of people have already mentioned, thank you for mentioning Timespinner! I had not heard of this game before, and I’m excited to check it out based on your apparent fondness for the title. P.S. Oh, and it appears that it is available on PS Vita. Now, I will certainly play it before the end of the month.
