--AN) sorry, the chapter length has to be reduced, or I will never get these out  every day .--

I stood on the rooftop of my building, looking at the huge chicken pushing its way through the buildings, knocking them over. Next to it was a massive dog faced monster with huge muscles that stood on two legs, stomping and biting everything in its path.

“Reni…. Are these the monsters?” Chloe seemed shocked, but this was only their first form. After they leveled up more, they would evolve into different kinds of monsters. The massive chicken will soon turn into a cockatrice that could spew poison, flames, and a petrifying fog.

“They are. But they will get worse in time.” I said as I swung my sword at the incoming bee that was as big as my head. Each animal grew differently. Some grew as big as the chicken, while others only doubled in size. But they took on different traits as well. Some were faster. Some had bigger, sharp teeth and claws. But the one thing they all had was their urge to kill humans. It was as if it was engrained in their souls.

“What do we do if they are this big then?” Chloe asked. I could see the worry in her eyes. It was to be expected. I mean, it was her first time seeing all of this.

“Don’t worry. We just need to avoid them. Our job is to only worry about protecting our home. If they move this way, then we will need to help those fighting them, but for now, we will deal with the smaller monsters that come knocking.” As I said this, I saw a massive flock of birds heading our way. “We should head downstairs, or we might end up in trouble ourselves.”

Fighting on the rooftop against flying monsters was not the best of ideas. While my wings could be used to fly, I needed to reach level 10 first. Why this was, I do not know, but even in my previous life, I could not fly before level 10.

The two of us headed downstairs but only got to the third floor before the door to the hall burst open, and a massive fluffy cat suddenly appeared. “Chloe, watch its claws. Cat monsters in the first evolution may still look cute, but they will kill you if they can.”

I, myself, was an animal lover, so in my previous life, I almost died because I did not wish to hurt the fluff. But now I have my own fluff fluff named Chloe, so I will not hold back this time.

As the cat monster jumped at us with its four inch claws extended out. I quickly dodged to the side, swung my sword, and smashed it with the flat side of my sword, hammering it into the wall. Chloe jumped up and stabbed it right in the head with her sword.

With my current strength, I could have cleaved it in two, but I wanted Chloe to get her first kill in. Luckily, she understood my actions without me needing to say anything. The cat monster’s body twisted and turned as it let out a pained roar before its eyes went dim. I could see dried blood on its muzzle, which told me that it had already killed its owners.

I looked at Chloe, who looked at the cat monster indifferently before flicking her sword to get the blood off. She then wiped it off on the dead monster’s fur before sheathing it. When she looked over at me, she smiled brightly before hopping over. “Reni, you did that so I could get a chance to kill it, right?”

“You are right. I wanted you to use this chance to experience killing something for the first time. You are handling it well.” Although I said this, I still remember how emotionless Chloe’s face was when we killed Bobby.

Chloe hugged me tightly as I heard her softly mumble: “If it’s for Reni, I will do anything.”

This made my heart melt. I leaned down and kissed the cute girl’s lips before taking her hand. “Let’s go. We need to get to the first floor.”

“Okay!” Chloe nodded as I led her downstairs.

When we arrived out on the street, the sounds of fighting could be heard all over. Screams for help also could be heard but were soon muffled out. Gunfire echoed through the air, which I found silly. While it might seem as if guns would work, they do not. You needed to use a sharp edge to pierce through the hides of these monsters. A bullet would not do enough damage to take one down unless you unloaded multiple clips into one, and that is if you are lucky.

People will soon realize this, and sword shop businesses will begin to spring up everywhere. Luckily, I went to Garnets Smithy early, or I might not have been able to get anything soon. I got lucky before, but this time, I might not have been so lucky.

I looked down the street to see a mass of monsters heading our way.  “Chloe, get ready…. The real fun begins now….”
