“Ai, is this the day?” My mother asked as I walked into the living room. There were multiple TV screens set up along a huge wall. It displayed not only footage from my drones but also various news channels that I tapped into. It showed footage from all over the state and gave news from various states as well.

“Yes. We will sit here and wait. My defenses are already set up. I set up a warning system for when our cameras go out due to replicator interference. I think it was about 1 p.m. that the news stations started reporting on a weird sighting in the sky. In my previous life, when the first wave swept through, many were killed, and the government sent men in black suits to the house to pick you up. That was the last time I saw either of you. I spent two years in the basement lab. Two years before, I had no choice but to venture out.”  I explained. My mother looked at me in shock. Tears started to build up in her eyes. I guess she must have felt bad.

“Mom, there is no need to feel sad. That was before. This time, we will be together.” I replied as I smiled at her. She wiped her eyes and nodded her head at me.

“Ai, just know that if we were forced to go before that, we would never have wanted to leave you alone. As soon as they let us go, we would have returned to your side.” I knew my mother loved me.

“I know. My guess is that either you died on the way to the location where they were taking you or you died on your way home. Maybe the base you were at was overtaken. Anything could have happened. But I know one thing. You and Dad have always been there for me, so I never held it against you.” I smiled and sat down next to my mother and leaned my head against her shoulder. “We need to watch things closely from now on.”

“Mmm….” My mother nodded and pulled me into a hug. I smiled and hugged her back. The warmth of a mother would never change. It was always a warm hug.

Jen got up not long later and sat beside me. My parents were at least open-minded and did not dislike my relationship with Jen. This made me feel a bit relieved since we would be stuck together in this place for a long time. To make things seem a bit more natrual, I set up some large TV windows that showed images of the outside world. There was a button on the side that let you decide what you wanted to see. I made sure there were quite a few settings.

We played a few board games together to pass the time while we watched the news and footage from the drones. It was around half past noon when my father spotted something on one of my drones. “Ai, what is that!?”

I looked up to see a small tear in the sky. “It’s begun.” I will never forget the sight of the tear in space since it never closed, even until the day I died. More and more robots were sent through all the time. From what I heard, there were even a few humanoid-looking robots that came through as well around the time I was sent to my last battlefield.

Whether that was real information or not is something I do not know. I do know is that it hurts to die. If I am to die in this life, I want it to be quick and painless. If anyone in my family were to die, I would be sure to end it for them quickly. At least with phase weapons, I can be sure to kill in a single shot.

“How come the news has not said anything?” My mother complained. It had only just appeared, so it was normal for the news not to show anything. The news did not show it until it got really big, which was around 1 PM.

“They will soon. Look how it is growing. It is either a dimensional tear or a tear in space-time. If we knew what kind of tear it is, we might have a chance to close it one day. But it is impossible to get close to it since it will be detected and destroyed instantly.” I explained.

“Ai, what do you mean?” My mother asked curiously.

“What I mean is that there is something really big inside the tear that can’t get through the tear. It fires at anything that gets near. I have no idea if it ever did make it through, but I do know that twenty years later, the tear was still not big enough even though it covered a huge portion of the sky length-wise.” I answered. The tear did not seem to grow at all except the width. It only grew in height by a tiny bit, which allowed bigger robots through.

“If I am not wrong, even if the ones behind this invasion are highly advanced, to keep a tear open and even grow it in size is not simple and probably takes up a lot of energy. But if we are careful, we may one day get to see just what exactly is coming to our world to slaughter us all and what for.”
