This story is actually a great way that Neil Gaiman adapted the comic from the 1980s for the 2020s television. The character John Dee is based on the Justice League villain Dr. Destiny, and in the comic his not only insane, but disfigured, and in the comic he does kill Rosemary, when she drops him off. I think the choice here is much better. A lot of the DC comics lore has been stripped from this series, which makes sense, but anti-life is the power that Darkseid (the baddie from Zack Snyder's Justice League, and many DC animated features, and of course 100s of DC comics) is searching for The battle with Lucifer is almost a perfect transfer from the comic, except for one thing. In the comic Dream battles the actual demon, while Lucifer watches on. I don't know if you have watched Lucifer (formally of Fox then Netflix) but the version of the Devil there is based on the same character that appears here. The next episode is going to be a hard one for you to watch. It is probably the darkest of the whole season

I think Dream scored a direct hit against Lucifer when he said that the people in hell have hope that they will one day go to heaven. I think Lucifer also dreams of heaven so would not want to kill that hope.
