The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Reaction - Google Drive

I used this reaction as an excuse to finally watch The Hobbit. :) I didn't even see all the Lord of the Rings movies -- didn't like the first one, couldn't finish the second, didn't see the third -- but I enjoyed this. I cared more about the characters in this movie than in LotR and I like dwarves in fantasy, so it has that going for it too. And I loved seeing how much you got into it too!

OMG that reaction was great! please tell me you plan on giving The Lord of The Rings a second chance after this trilogy?

LoTR is SO much better than these movies. For one, LoTR is based on an adult book - the Hobbit was written for children. Second, the Hobbit is a much smaller book - there is nowhere near enough for 3 films, so they have padded it out with material from the appendices and perhaps the Silmarillion. But worst, they deviate a long way from the books (even including the LoTR appendix material). The changes they made in LoTR were, for the most part, not too bad. They kept in the essentials. Changes they made in the Hobbit were horrifying.

I'm so glad you decided to react to The Hobbit movies!! I'm in the small camp that loves these movies and feels like they are very underrated. I tweeted you with an explanation/break down for the names.

I'll be honest, I myself was also very young when Lord of the Rings first came out, and initially I was not overly fond of the films, I've since come around to loving them. The other long white haired wizard you referred to was Saruman played by the late great Sir Christopher Lee, and yes he is a major character that appears in all three Lord of the Rings films. He is also my favorite character in both trilogies. This truly was a really fantastic reaction and halfway through I said, "God she's already this invested and this emotional, and we're only on the first film. oh we are in for a hell of a ride!"

Not gonna lie i'd be down for a LOTR "i'm a adult now and i can remember whats going on in the film" reaction

You're not wrong about the lack of female characters. The was written by a Oxford scholar in the 1930's for his sons. He had no female siblings as a child, attending all-make boarding school, and worked in an all-male university college. He had met wormen, vis. his children, but that's about it. In fact, the female characters you do see in these movies are additions to the movie that aren't in the novel. There are no female characters whatsoever in the novel.
