Ooooh, this is exciting! Also perfect timing since I just finished the comics the other week too so I was about to start this anyway :)

One little tip: even watching the movie doesn't fully prepare you for this show, as it made one major change to the ending. Rather than frame Dr. Manhattan for the attack on New York, in the original version Veidt instead sends a Cthulu-esque squid monster which then explodes, making humanity think they need to end the Cold War due to aliens. Thus, that bit in this episode where a bunch of squids rain down to continue the lie.
