Like I said before, I'm very grateful you were able to see this film not knowing the solution to the mystery, which has become one of the most famous in detective stories. And you might also be interested to see the earlier adaptation from 1974 which if anything has an even more impressive cast: Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark, and Michael York.

I'm officially very happy :) looking forward to watching this later

I finally got around to seeing this within the past week in preparation for your reaction, and although I ultimately prefer the 1974 adaptation directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Albert Finney as Poirot, I really liked this newer version a lot. I was caught off guard by how much the ending in this version made me cry. I knew going into it how it would end, yet like you said, it was a lot more emotional than one would expect. I enjoyed this film as well as your reaction to it very much, and I hope that you will have a good break this week.

Another Christie movie that's good for an unexpectedly emotional 'solution' is The Mirror Cracked - which, unbelievably, was inspired by actual events!

I've yet to see the film, looking at the cast list alone I need to, but I am familiar with the story, and I agree the ending catches you off guard with how emotional it is.

Glad that got picked - maybe there is hope one day for Pelham 1-2-3. Never been a huge fan of Agatha Christie - but Poirot is one of her more interesting characters, even if I'm not a huge fan her plots - this, probably, is one of the most gimmicky stories she constructed - a murder mystery where everybody did it. This is a great adaptation though - and Branagh does a cracking job. But I'd rather have a good Columbo any day. :-)
