Werner Herzog initially came into this show purely for the paycheck to make his next few films, not caring at all about Star Wars. But by the time the season was done filming, he was surprised to find how much he enjoyed the experience, and in particular described Baby Yoda as "heartbreakingly beautiful." He's also the one who shamed the producers into using a puppet upon hearing they were considering doing it with CGI.
