Content

Hey all,

You're going to notice some changes coming over the next few weeks. Namely, I will no longer be referred to as "DMDave" or "Dungeon Master Dave," nor will my content mention that we directly use and create Fifth Edition content.

Please note that we will continue to produce adventure/scenario content that can be used with that system, at least for the foreseeable future. And hopefully, make it so the content can be used with any system. And all the previously published content will remain on the site. It's business as usual.

As some of you might expect, this coincides with the upcoming changes that Wizards of the Coast plans to make in the new year with their open gaming license.

These are definitely not changes that I wanted to make, especially as a brand that's been following the legal agreement of Wizards' 2000 open gaming license to a T for the last four years I've been making content for that system. But I have to protect myself and my contractors.

Just know, these aren't decisions that came lightly. We have very good information close to the source that these upcoming legal changes aren't to be taken with a grain of salt.

I will continue to post updates as we get more information.

Just know that I love all of you. You've helped us build an amazing thing here, and I'm glad you're all a part of it. And I will continue to deliver the best content I can in 2023 and beyond.

Thanks, everyone!

Do what you gotta do. I'll be here until Wizards makes D&D unplayable.

Solid idea. We got your back boss!

I'm 100% behind you. I'm completely dependent on 3rd party developers to enhance gaming. I simple don't have time to homebrew supplements for our game sessions. And why should I when people like you do such a great job of developing content. I'm very grateful.

You and your team should contact Paizo, see about producing Pathfinder 1e/2e material

Charles Martin

I probably won't. Looked at Pathfinder. Wasn't really impressed. I still own my 5e books. I'll run what I got until I can't find others who want to join. Then I put my books away like I did with my AD&D books.

Here's to the OpenDnD movement! May it be as successful as the 5E game it is intended to save.

Fuck Hasbro, all my homies hate Hasbro. You've given my campaign a world to thrive in and so many adventures to throw in there for my players. I'm still with you and the team

I know that this is because of OneD&D but as a GM who prefers to run Pathfinder 2e it'll be nice to have some content that might be easier for me to use!

Have you read yesterday's press release on DnD Beyond? It sounds like not a lot is changing. The most anyone will have to do is pay royalties if you make over a certain amount a year. That seems reasonable for intellectual property.

dmdave

Yes, I saw their press release. It was cleverly written. And unfortunately, there's more to it than that, which I won't be able to comment on until they release the actual agreement.

They've clearly leveled up their corporate speak. As far as I know, though, you can still create content under OGL 1.0 that is 5e compatible without having to agree to their new terms, right? Just not OneDND.

Mammoth Factory

Bravo Dave, quick response - so important that someone like yourself is taking action.

NakedAlice

Oh no worries and thanks for the info. Hope 2023 is a good year for you! Merry Christmas!

I will continue to support you in my own, small, way until you decide to move on. I've really enjoyed the YouTube shorts and your mad ideas. I've come to Patreon solely to buy your content and I've enjoyed reading all of the adventures that you have produced. I hope you have a fabulous Christmas and get to do things that you enjoy. Thank you for everything you and the team have done so far. All the best (another DM) Dave.

Thanks for the heads-up. Good luck with the expected changes you'll have to deal with. I'll continue to support you the best I can. Happy New Year
