Chapter Five – We Live In A Society

Jonathan decided that it was best to take control of the conversation and sidestep whatever his mom wanted to say to him, anything along the lines of admonishing him for slapping Drew in front of his friends. In hindsight, he had some regrets since his loss of control just proved that Drew could still get to him if he wanted. “I will apologize to Drew,” he thus began.

“What?” Maddox asked, obviously perplexed by his stance on the matter. “Why would you do that? He totally deserved it.”

His mom remained conspicuously silent while looking at them, first at him, then at Maddox, as if she was trying to figure something out. Once more, Jonathan believed he could read what went through his parent’s head at that very moment. “Maddox had nothing to do with it. I lost my temper for a moment, and that was that.” He stole a furtive glance at Maddox, hoping it was enough to make him understand what the actual stakes were.

“I do believe he deserved it,” his mom said calmly. “I’ve heard people talking. No one really understands what all that was about, but I suppose it’s for the better. Am I correct?”

Jonathan nodded. Beside him, Maddox was clearly dying to say something, so he surreptitiously grabbed his hand.

Maddox wasn’t interested in taking a hint, though. “He was insulting Jonathan with dirty insinuations in front of his friends.”

“He was, was he?” Francine said with a weary sigh. “His parents are convinced that Andrew is merely a misunderstood child.”

“Misunderstood, my ass,” Maddox said under his breath. “I mean, sorry for the language, but he’s an asshole.”

Francine smiled and set her eyes on Jonathan. At first, Jonathan felt tempted to avoid his mother’s eyes, but, in the end, he decided that if he truly wanted to grow up and stand for himself, he needed to stop practicing avoidance.

To his surprise, what he read in his mom’s eyes wasn’t reproof of any sort. She looked, for lack of a better term, amused.

“You don’t have to apologize for speaking your mind, Maddox,” she said, but she didn’t tear her eyes away from her son. “And don’t worry about using stronger language when the situation warrants it. Trust me, I’ve heard all of it, and in so-called sophisticated company, even.”

“Thank you, Mrs. H. For the record, if Jonathan hadn’t slapped Drew, I would have punched him in the nose.”

“I told you to call me Francine. But I suppose Mrs. H also works. However, Jonathan is expected to apologize.”

“Why would he? He wasn’t in the wrong,” Maddox protested.

Francine waved. “We live in a society. It will be for nothing else other than formal purposes. No explanations, just a simple ‘I regret what happened’, and more for the sake of the people attending the event, not for Drew.”

“Mrs. H,” Maddox groaned, “I can’t believe you pulled a ‘we live in a society’ on us.”

Jonathan watched as his mom’s eyebrows furrowed in an effort to understand what Maddox was on about. Therefore, he hurried to the rescue. “It’s a meme thing,” he attempted to offer a short clarification.

“Meme?” his mom repeated slowly.

“Yeah,” Maddox began, working himself up with each word he was saying, “it’s like when you say that some things should just be accepted because we live in a society, no matter how unjust they are or absurd.”

Francine only seemed to become even more confused. “We do live in a society. Such things go without saying.”

Without a doubt, it was useless to try explaining to Francine Hamilton the inner workings of a meme. Jonathan had low-key worried that they might get to a point where, no matter all the good intentions all of them had, the difference between the worlds of their families would surface and cause conflict.

“Why should they?” Maddox insisted. “We should strive to be correct and honest, shouldn’t we?”

Francine smiled and patted Maddox’s arm. “I understand what you mean. You see, if Jonathan apologizes, the same rules will force Drew not only to accept the apology, but also to admit that he was in the wrong and caused the issue in the first place. And he will have to do so in front of everyone.”

“But will he do that? And even if he does, is he going to hurt because of it in any way?” Maddox argued.

Francine’s smile widened. “Trust me, it will hurt him. And since he’s not likely to step out of bounds when his parents are watching, he will play by the rules. It will be like stepping on his toes in warning if Jonathan agrees to apologize. It’s a way of settling the score.”

Maddox pinched the bridge of his nose. “I think my head is starting to hurt. Once we’re married, are we both going to live by the same complicated rules?”

“No, not at all. You make your own happiness, children,” Francine said. “And Jonathan? This was just a suggestion. I won’t insist that you do so if it is something that goes against your grain that badly. Now, I have to leave you, boys. I must mingle some more.”

They both stared after her as she stepped out of the balcony.

“Your mom’s really shrewd,” Maddox commented. “If she had insisted, you would have resisted. But now, she gave you a choice, and that, at least, makes you consider it.”

Jonathan grabbed Maddox by the shoulders. “Have I told you lately that I love you for your mind?”

“Not exactly. And I don’t remember you ever telling me that you love my mind. I thought my body was my biggest asset.”

Jonathan chuckled. “Stop talking about your body so casually. It might make my imagination start running amok. I must admit that my mom is right, to some degree. If I had just grabbed Drew by the arm and whispered some low-key insult in his ear, without letting anyone hear, it would have been for the best.”

“Don’t tell me you are going to apologize,” Maddox said.

“No. I was given a choice, and I’m going to take it. But I really need to stop Drew from believing that he can do as he pleases, just to have his fun.”

“I’m not so sure about the fun part. What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to give my mom half the satisfaction she wants while setting Drew right, hopefully, once and for all. I’ll pretend that I want to apologize to him in private, and everybody here is going to believe it, and then I’ll have a serious conversation with him.”

“Can I come with you?”

“As much as I would like that, I don’t think it will serve what I have in mind. But, let’s say,” Jonathan said as he started walking toward the door, “that if you happen to follow from a distance and eavesdrop, I’m going to pretend that I don’t know anything about that. I do have a condition, though. You will not intervene. Drew needs to know that it’s over, beyond the shadow of a doubt, and he needs to hear it while looking into my eyes.”

“All right,” Maddox agreed, but the hunch of his shoulders spoke volumes about his reluctance.

***

As much as he disliked letting Jonathan have a face to face talk with that asshole, Maddox had to admit that his boyfriend was right. Jonathan and Drew had to have closure, whatever that was, since there hadn’t been any chance for them to get it. And it served another purpose, as well; most likely Drew would show his true colors once he was alone with Jonathan, and then Maddox would know for sure what the asshole’s feelings were.

He rested against a large column, grateful for the shadow it provided, and set his phone to silence. It didn’t take long to hear footsteps coming closer, and he was all ears.

“So, apologize already,” Drew said aggressively. “You could have done it in front of everyone. It would have been more effective.”

“You were making allusions to private things while in public. I’d say a private conversation is more suitable for concluding our little conflict.” As opposed to Drew’s attitude, Jonathan sounded calm and collected.

“Little? I heard it’s all over the Internet,” Drew exploded.

“Just like the other little,” Jonathan emphasized the word, “video featuring the two of us. How do you think that makes me feel?”

That appeared to give Drew pause, because he stopped ranting and just let out a long sigh. “Look, Jonathan, I never wanted things to turn out that way.”

“I suppose,” Jonathan agreed.

From the shadows, Maddox frowned. Was Jonathan going to believe this asshole had any good intentions underneath that arrogant façade?

“However,” Jonathan continued, “I still don’t understand how you could be so negligent with your phone that the video got out. Are you going to tell me the truth, Drew? Ever? If it’s not too much to ask.” The last words were dipped in irony.

“All right,” Drew accepted, chewing the words like they were hard and stringy. “I might have showed it to someone.”

“You might?” Jonathan’s voice became louder, but only for a moment. “I suppose that explains it. Why did you do it?”

Maddox couldn’t read Drew’s body language from his hiding place, but the pauses the guy took in the conversation were tale-telling signs.

“I guess,” Drew started slowly, “that I wanted to brag about it. You know, to have someone know.”

“Know what?” Jonathan asked. The question was genuine.

“That I was bagging you, dammit,” Drew let out brusquely.

Maddox hadn’t imagined Drew to be the kind to use terms like ‘bagging someone’, but he had just heard it, so there could be no misinterpretation.

“Why would you do such a thing? I mean, you could just admit to being gay--”

“Just because I enjoyed you blowing me didn’t make me gay, Hamilton,” Drew said thickly.

Oh, fuck. Maddox resisted the temptation to scratch his head in wonder. So, Drew was playing the gay card with his parents, but he didn’t consider himself gay. Talk about confused.

“Your parents almost suggested that we should get married,” Jonathan pointed out. “Don’t tell me you would have gone along with it.”

“They threatened me plenty,” Drew said with a snort. “If that’s what it takes--”

“Don’t even think about it,” Jonathan said. “That ship has sailed, and it’s never coming back. But seriously, Andrew, why would you do such a thing to yourself? I suppose that your parents expect you to bring home a man one day?”

“Maybe. I don’t know. I’ll tell them I changed my mind.”

“It would be better if you were honest, but it’s not my problem,” Jonathan said matter-of-factly. “Anyway, seeing where we stand, I brought you here to tell you to drop it, whatever it is that you think you’re doing with these provocations.”

“I thought I was here so that you could apologize.”

“Fat chance.” Another silence followed. “Was I some sort of prize?” Jonathan asked. “Why would you brag about something like that?”

Drew laughed, but it was forced. “You are a prize, Hamilton. You have no idea how many guys would like to be able to say that you got on your knees for them.”

Maddox closed his fists. Jonathan had told him not to intervene, but this was getting a little hairy.

“I doubt many would think that way,” Jonathan pointed out calmly. “And why? Because of my family? What would be to gain from such a thing?”

“Hmm,” Drew purred, “first of all, satisfaction. You are good with your mouth, Hamilton, I wasn’t lying about that.”

“Keep that up, and you might not be any good with yours,” Jonathan warned smoothly.

“Oh, I see that you really don’t want to apologize,” Drew retorted but didn’t pursue the matter further.

“Continue to enlighten me, please,” Jonathan insisted.

“Right. Well, yes, your family’s wealth and status have to do with it, too.”

“So, in your opinion, a lot of people simply get off on playing with power. I see. Good for me I left that place behind and went somewhere people are not so screwed up in the head.”

“You think?” Drew’s irony was, however, lost on Jonathan.

“I don’t think. I know. But it’s, indeed, educational, to understand why you befriended me. This is where we part ways, hopefully forever. I will make sure to avoid you. You better do the same.”

“That wasn’t all,” Drew blurted out.

Jonathan remained silent.

Drew added, in a more subdued voice, “I mean, it wasn’t like that. I really liked you, Jonathan.”

Maddox flexed his fingers. The asshole sounded genuine. He was either a good actor, or he was admitting to some semblance of truth.

“You liked my blowjobs, you mean,” Jonathan pointed out.

“No. I mean, yeah, that, too. And kissing you. I still remember how it was.” Truthful regret pierced through those words.

“I don’t,” Jonathan replied, and he didn’t sound like he was saying that out of spite. “I hope you’ll find someone you would consider changing for.”

“Do you mean that you don’t think of me at all?”

Wow, how Drew had moved from being an obnoxious fucker to desperate, Maddox didn’t know. Not that he cared too much, either.

“Even if I did,” Jonathan said patiently, “what good would it be? You are straight, Drew, you said it yourself.”

Drew didn’t say anything for a while.

“I’m going now,” Jonathan said firmly.

“Wait,” Drew said quickly. “Damn it, Jonathan.”

“This is the last time I intend to have a conversation with you that goes beyond a mere ‘hello’. If you really have something to tell me, do it now, please.”

“It’s not so easy,” Drew mumbled.

“Try anyway,” Jonathan suggested.

Drew began pacing the floor, so Maddox had to glue his back to the column, so that he wouldn’t be noticed by accident.

“I liked you,” Drew insisted.

“And I also liked you. But I don’t, not anymore,” Jonathan pointed out.

“Well, good for you,” Drew said with rancor. “Because I still do like you.”

“I see,” Jonathan replied in an even voice that gave nothing away. “It’s going to pass, Drew. Just give it a bit of time, if that’s truly the case, and you aren’t just toying with me for reasons only you know.”

“You make me sound like such an asshole,” Drew reproached.

“It’s not very hard,” Jonathan replied calmly. “You offer more than a helping hand.”

“What do you want me to do to make you understand?”

“Just say it clearly. Say what’s on your mind. And I’ll do my best to try to understand it. We fall in like with people every day. And we also fall out with them, all the time. I don’t see the issue here.”

“No one has ever looked at me the way you do,” Drew shot quickly. “The way you used to, I mean.”

“And someone will, again, as long as you decide to be a better person,” Jonathan said. “Is that what’s bothering you?”

“You don’t understand a thing,” Drew said bitterly. “I see you with that guy and--”

“Don’t stop, please,” Jonathan said, but he sounded as if his patience was wearing thin. “Do you want me to complete that phrase? You want to punch Maddox, or at least humiliate him in front of your friends.”

“No. I thought it would help,” Drew admitted quietly. “What I really want is to take you away from him. And keep you for myself.” That sudden confession stopped abruptly.

“You admitted earlier that you’re not gay,” Jonathan said. “So, one day, you’ll find a girl you’ll want to marry. Where would you keep me? In your pocket? Or stashed away, like a dirty little secret?”

At those words, Drew reacted as if he had been doused in cold water. “As I thought,” he hissed. “You don’t understand a thing.”

“I’m afraid you’re the one who doesn’t understand himself.”

“Sex with you was better than anything else I’ve ever had,” Drew said with a groan. “Is that bad?”

“I’m not judging you. But maybe you should put your convictions to the test, Drew. Do you really like women? Or would you truly rather be with a man? Or maybe both? There are all kinds of possibilities.”

Drew fell silent again. This time, he didn’t add anything.

“For your own sake, I hope you can figure it out. Had you told me these things while we were still friends, I would have given all of my help to you.”

“Why can’t you help me now?”

“Because I have someone, amazing, smart, and beautiful. And I wouldn’t disappoint him by letting myself get dragged in the mire of your unclear feelings, Drew.”

“Are you in love with him?” Drew’s tone expressed consternation as if that wasn’t yet clear to him.

“Yes. We will get married as soon as we finish our studies. I’m terribly sorry you have your doubts, but I’m done with mine. Goodbye.”

Maddox listened to Jonathan’s departing footsteps. It took Drew longer to walk away, and, by the sound of it, he did so in the opposite direction.

***

“Did you hear everything?” Jonathan asked as soon as they were back home and alone.

Maddox nodded. “I think he really likes you still.”

Jonathan stretched out on the bed, hands behind his head, and contemplated the ceiling. “He didn’t behaved like he did like me when we were friends. But I suppose that I was so desperate to have a meaningful relationship with someone that I preferred to keep my eyes closed.”

“Did you feel tempted, you know, for like a moment, to cave in?” Maddox snuck next to Jonathan, but kept a small distance between them.

“Cave in to what?” Jonathan asked and turned his face so that they could look each other in the eyes.

“You know, to his request that you help him figure himself out.” Maddox looked away. Jonathan had made sure not to keep any secrets from him, by letting him listen to everything, but he still needed to hear it, loud and clear.

“No,” Jonathan said firmly. “Drew is a manipulative bastard, Maddox.”

“He sounded sincere.”

“Yes, and people who manipulate others may do so because they are missing something in their lives. They might not believe they’re doing something wrong. Even if they aren’t evil or anything like that, their behavior doesn’t make them any better. And their actions can affect others in unfair ways. Don’t you think?”

Maddox smiled and pressed his forehead against Jonathan’s chest. “Wow, babe, I just got schooled, right? I admit that I pitied him a little.”

“I do pity him, just as you say. But I can’t allow him to use me, not anymore. It’s a battle he needs to carry himself. And you do know what he was asking, right?”

“He wanted to bag you again,” Maddox said.

Jonathan laughed and moved his arm so he could run his fingers through Maddox’s hair. “Something like that. I’m done being someone’s experiment. And I have you.”

“You told him loud and clear. I liked that,” Maddox admitted. “But you know, there was something that hit home in what he said.”

“What exactly?”

“I also want to brag.”

“I see. That you’re bagging me?” Jonathan’s chest shook with laughter.

“Not like that.” Maddox scowled at his own clumsiness. “That you’re mine.”

“That’s the idea of the engagement and later, the wedding. It’s our occasion to let the world know that we’re bagging each other exclusively.” The shaking intensified.

Maddox rolled himself over Jonathan, making sure their crotches touched in the least unclear way of all. “That sounds like a very good deal, in my book.”

“I couldn’t agree more. Well, now that I’ve gone through all of that for you, are you finally satisfied?”

Maddox couldn’t exactly concentrate on what Jonathan was saying, since the temperature between their bodies was starting to rise. That had to be because of the friction they produced by rubbing their still clothed cocks against each other. “I’ll be satisfied soon if you give it to me,” he whispered and angled his head for a kiss.

To his dismay, Jonathan stopped him by putting a finger on his lips. “Are you still jealous?”

“Of who?” Maddox asked, feigning innocence.

“I can’t believe you!” Jonathan exclaimed but his face was all a smile.

“Ah, you mean, the asshole? I was never jealous.”

“Yeah, sure,” Jonathan drawled and pulled him in for a kiss. “You know, when you’re so naughty, I think you should be punished a little.”

Maddox moved his mouth alongside Jonathan’s jaw and sank his teeth playfully into his neck. A hiss of pleasure was his reward. “I’m trying to be naughtier here, but it looks like you’re enjoying it.”

“Ah, is that a challenge I hear?”

“I’m trying to get to you, but you dodge all my attempts,” Maddox complained.

“What are you talking about?” Jonathan asked smoothly, but he pushed Maddox’s sweatpants down right under his beautiful asscheeks and grabbed them quickly.

Maddox squirmed at the firm touch. “Harder,” he whispered.

Jonathan let his hands wander over Maddox’s ass, teasingly and fleetingly.

“Don’t make me beg,” Maddox whispered with a growl now.

“But I intend to,” Jonathan said, much to his disappointment.

Which only lasted for a moment, because Jonathan turned the tables and rolled him off his back. Maddox felt giddy while Jonathan made him move on his belly, his movements firm and leaving no doubt to where things were going.

Jonathan straddled the back of Maddox’s thighs and then promptly slapped his ass.

“Ouch,” Maddox exclaimed in surprise.

“Do you need some taking in hand?” Jonathan whispered thickly while grabbing hold of Maddox’s hair and leaning forward to touch one ear with his soft lips.

Maddox shivered at the promise. Jonathan moved again, this time focusing on his ass. He waited, anticipating, and yet, the next slap still caught him off-guard. “Wow, you have a heavy hand,” he commented while shifting a little, something seriously hindered by how tightly Jonathan held him between his strong thighs.

“You deserve it,” Jonathan said, his voice loaded with passion. “Do you want more?”

“Yes, please,” Maddox agreed quickly.

“What a good boy,” Jonathan praised him. “Maybe I shouldn’t spank you, after all.”

“You totally have to spank me, babe--” He gasped as, this time, Jonathan put both more thought and strength into it. When he squirmed again, heat was starting to radiate from the slapped ass cheek.

Jonathan seemed to be in a sadistic mood, because he slammed his open palm on the same abused flesh again.

“Ouch, ouch, ouch,” Maddox complained, and Jonathan’s long fingers caressed the hot skin.

“Your ass looks very nice like this,” Jonathan praised him.

Maddox didn’t know which sensation was more pleasant – the hardness between his legs growing bigger with each slap, or how he melted when Jonathan fondled his ass cheeks gently and lovingly.

The slightly cold lube landing on his crack increased his shivering in a most enjoyable way, as it also came with the promise that he would get fucked, and not just any way, but into the mattress, as the saying went.

His cock rubbed against the bed sheets, and the friction was barely enough. Maddox had to squeeze his butt to push his hips into the bed more. Jonathan slapped his ass again, and he unclenched, as if conditioned.

That was enough for Jonathan to slide in slowly. Maddox squeezed his boyfriend’s cock as he chased the sensation of his cock getting what it needed. That earned him a firmer slap on the other butt cheek.

Maddox gasped as the idea that he was actually still in control and could get what he wanted struck him. The feel of Jonathan’s cock sliding inside him was maddening. On one hand, he wanted to open wide and take it, and on the other, he wanted to squeeze hard and feel Jonathan’s cock pulse like mad inside him.

Tough as it was to choose, he continued to alternate between the two. Jonathan’s breathing was getting labored, a reward in itself. Before his boyfriend, Maddox hadn’t imagined himself to be the object of admiration, affection, and arousal in that way. Sure, the girls had liked him well enough, but in bed, he was always on top.

This was different, and his curiosity about how it would feel to have Jonathan in control, taking him in hand, as he said, was finally on its way to becoming satisfied. All the sensations were heightened, from the burn on his skin where Jonathan had spanked him at leisure, to the fullness inside his ass, and to how his cock was rubbing madly against the bed.

Jonathan changed tack and wrapped one arm around his chest, bringing him a little higher off the bed, and making him arch his back. The new position allowed deeper penetration and Maddox gasped, as new delightful sensations bloomed from the epicenter of his pleasure point. Jonathan wasted no effort in giving it to him hard, and he enjoyed it more than he could admit out loud. His mouth was busy with whispering pleas mainly addressed to Jonathan and his ability to take them both higher.

His boyfriend pulled out all the stops while the bed under them began to creak to the rhythm. Jonathan grabbed hold of Maddox’s right nipple and squeezed like a savage. The sharp sensation made all his restraint and desire for things to stay like that for a little longer disappear.

It was strange to come like that, the friction against the bed now barely there, but it had to be among the top three orgasms of his life. That said a lot, seeing what being joined at the hip with Jonathan meant.

“Thank you,” Jonathan whispered in his ear, while Maddox’s entire body still shook in the earthquake of his climax.

He wanted to ask what for, but Jonathan bit on his shoulder wildly and came hard and for what felt like forever, filling his ass with all his loving.

Maddox felt incredibly spent when Jonathan moved away and then pulled him into his arms. “Wow, babe, you make me so jealous.”

“What?” Jonathan managed with obvious difficulty.

“Yeah. You really know how to fuck.”

Jonathan laughed and shook his head. “With you under me, it’s not that hard.”

“Yeah, yeah, it’s plenty hard,” Maddox replied and chuckled.

“You are amazingly sexy, Maddox,” Jonathan said and kissed his sweaty forehead. “I had no idea you would like it rough so much.”

“With you, I do,” Maddox declared. “Although I think my ass cheeks are going to feel the treatment for a while, if you know what I mean.”

“I do. But you were really good at challenging me, and I must admit that I found it incredibly exciting. Look.” Jonathan took Maddox’s hand and put it on his cock. “It’s enough just to close my eyes and recall how nice your exposed spanked ass looks, and I’m ready again.”

Indeed, Jonathan’s cock twitched with renewed interest, but it was beyond evident that they were both too spent to go for another round.

“Do you think we could switch?” Maddox asked. “I think your smooth ass will look just fine with the print of my hand on it.”

Jonathan cleared his throat. “Oh, my,” he whispered playfully. “Well, if you want to play this dominant role so badly, I suppose you will have to make me submit.”

“How do I do that?” Maddox asked.

Jonathan’s eyes met his. “I think it’s enough for you to look at me like that.”

“You ass,” Maddox said with a grin. “Hmm, maybe I just like being the one getting the spanking.”

“I don’t mind that at all,” Jonathan replied right away. “I told you, you’re the sexiest sight on the planet. But can I say that maybe only once in a while? My palm is burning.”

“Then, maybe try some toys?” Maddox suggested.

He was taken by surprise when Jonathan pushed him on his back and kissed him hard. “You’re turning me into a sex fiend, Ace.”

Maddox didn’t have to reply to that. He opted for offering a very satisfied and full of himself smile.

I wonder if it might be possible to design the meme that Hannah and Ray were supposed to make of Jonathan and Drew as part of the bonus content for this story... I feel like that would be a really neat little visual... or maybe even take submissions from some of the more artistically gifted patrons?

Laura S. Fox

Well, that's a fun idea for sure... I'm not sure if anyone's interested, but I'll think about of a possible way to create something like that. No promises, though, since my artistic skills in the realm of visual arts are very limited.
