Hey there!  Thanks again for supporting Smarter Every Day on Patreon.  I've been working on this year's sticker and thought I'd open up the discussion to see what your ideas are!  By the way, what do you do with the stickers?

We worked on a design of the bullet vs bullet concept, but the sticker didn't end up popping quite like I was hoping, so I'm going back to the drawing board to see what type of sticker ideas might make sense for this year.  Last year's James Webb Space Telescope sticker is going to be difficult to beat!  Do you have any ideas?  I'd love to see any rough sketch ideas you may have!  Literally... send me a sketch! I'm going to be narrowing it down very soon and wanted to crowd source some cool ideas first!

Regards,
Destin

Mine have gone on laptop lids. Last year's were really good quality. Maybe something Kodak?

Anonymous

I'll be putting one in my toolbox at work

Greg

I think a Coast guard theme would be appropriate.

Anonymous

Mine lives on my laser cutter! Laminar flow? Kodak+Laminar flow? I do really like the bullet idea tho

Anonymous

Mine go on my Yeti Cooler or my laptop lid. I’ve also put smaller ones on my Nalgene bottles. Not to rag on the Kodak idea (which would be cool) but maybe something with the manufacturing series? Like a progressive stamping of the SED logo?

Simon Priisholm

Coast guard or Kodak, but Coast guard would be easier too avoid any trademark issue

Anonymous

I wish I could take a picture my son's computer has the stickers on them and his shelf on his desk has the Baseball next to the black shade ball from Veritasium in a display. Next to all that is a model of the space station.

Anonymous

The supersonic baseball cannon!

Anonymous

I have them on my laptop and loose on the back of my phone in the case. Film - Kodak or Prince Rupert's drop?

Brendan

Maybe a film reel with highlights of your videos for the year in the frames.

Anonymous

Lots of cool vehicles in the coast guard series. Why not a Price Rupert's Drop one now that you've recently made another video on the subject?

Anonymous

I have both of mine on a paperclip on a piece of card next to my computer... I used paperclip because I am too paniccy to stick it to something to know one day that the thing may not be there anymore and the stickers are then gone...

Dave Chapman

A big Smarter Every Day JWST sticker on the Yeti bottle for me - the coolest bottle at the Kennedy Space Center a couple of weeks back!

Anonymous

I was thinking about the Kodak series but that was more last year. So I was thinking maybe the coasty helicopter with a rescue swimmer repelling. My JWST stickers went on the back glass of my truck and my daughter’s water bottle she takes to school.

Anonymous

Coastguard theme would fit. Stickers go in 3 places for me One on laptop, one on iPad and the large one adornes my Touring Peli Case

Anonymous

I think a Prince Rupert's Drop sticker would be awesome!

Anonymous

Maybe a see through holographic sticker that can be put on a window or glass

Anonymous

Something Kodak cased could be very cool!!

Anonymous

The fused civil war bullets would make a super cool design!

Rosuav

Adding my voice to the Prince Rupert's Drop group. That's an excellent choice since it's part of the channel, and viable for this year. What do I do with the stickers? At the moment, they're on my collection of unstuck stickers, but I dip into that collection every time I commission a new computer - for example, my current laptop "Traal" has six different stickers on his lid.

Controlled Insanity

What if you did a pulley sticker, and spelt something with the rope and pulleys. It would look wild, at least in my head it does. Snatch block! God bless brother

Anonymous

My stickers go on my bass guitar case. :)

Sam Muller

Idea: circle ringing a illustration depicting the moment of collision of the two bullets with captions in the ring showing science formulas like for velocity or acceleration or whatever trajectory and smarter every day around the rest of the ring

Anonymous

Alan Bean’s ‘Reaching for the Stars’ painting could serve as a template.

Shino Puppy

I can't draw to save my life, but given the deep dives into Kodak, perhaps a yellow roll of film with the Smarter Every Day logo as a negative on the film tail sticking out?

Anonymous

Among the stickers, a simple SED logo sticker would be fantastic!

Anonymous

Something camera related with all the crazy kodak stuff this last year or so. Like a roll of film or one of the cooler machines from one of the factories. Roboforming would also be cool where it looks like its forming the sticker.

Anonymous

Maybe a design that looks like progressive metal stamping out the Smarter Every Day text/ logo?

Sam Muller

My stickers are in a frame on the wall as decoration

Anonymous

He did have a video in a factory in may this year about film.

Anonymous

I don’t have a plan with my stickers yet. I have them in a safe spot with my baseball. How about a submarine staged in front of an iceberg? Use a large iceberg as a background have a sub in the lower part and a USCG Dolphin in action above it.

Anonymous

My small stickers go on the back of my laptop lid, (occasionally earning comments), and the big ones are staying safe in my desk till I find a worthy use for them.

Anonymous

I have personalized my Nalgene water bottle with various stickers, including yours. For new stickers, I would think either a Coast Guard helicopter or an old school film camera.

Anonymous

I’m thinking one of those robots they use to do roboforming touching the finger of a human in the style of The Creation Of Adam

Chris Screws

My sticker are on display in my woodshop. I use them to remind me to work smarter not harder!! I think something with the manufacturering theme for this year's sticker. Not sure what that might be exactly but something that represents that industry!!

Anonymous

baseball cannon with a graph showing velocities with a notification of sprinkles and mayo

Anonymous

Chicken head tracking / chicken steadycam needs to at least be on the list, perhaps with a lenticular sticker

Anonymous

As a person who got into film photography thanks to you, a (holographic?) sticker of a film strip with a SED logo on each frame would be so cool!! Maybe three frames with the canister on one side? I'm also a huge advocate for if you do multiple stickers, for then to have multiple themes (e.g. prince respects drop, film, baseball canon) instead of all being on one theme/series of videos.

Anonymous

I'm liking the Metal Stamp Idea, although since the stickers tend to be round, you could go with a Top down of Farming irrigation equipment. Big green circle with tracks and the sprinkler system at whatever time you like. Circle with a radius drawn for a simpler description.

Anonymous

Prince Ruppert Drop in a Glass! That's the one to beat last year's ;D

R S

I put last years sticker on my water bottle. Honestly I'd like a simple logo of the Smarter Every Day head, with no text or anything. People who know, know, and we can spot each other in the wild, and people who are curious enough to ask "hey what's that about" are probably the kind of people who would appreciate a the channel

Anonymous

I put one of the stickers on the rear window of my vehicle. I haven't used the others yet.

Anonymous

A Victor Sierra search pattern would make a great sticker.

Rando Norseman

The James Web sticker(s) were excellent, btw. I really enjoyed the Saturn V rocket guidance videos with Luke Talley. I know that's not in the more recent set of videos, but some sticker related to that would be great IMO. More recent content: the Roboforming robots could be very cool. As to wear I have my stickers: on my primary laptop. I work in tech, and that's a common place for us to put the stickers we get. I get questions regularly about the Smarter Every Day ones - "That's cool, what is that?"

Anonymous

How about sticker of The Extremely Large Telescope, in Paranal, Chile or Event Horizon telescope? Those might be hard to put into a sticker but fits the theme right there with the James Webb Space Telescope.

Anonymous

Thoughts: a roll of film where the Smarter logo becomes more developed on each frame. Similarly a progressive die stamp of the logo becoming more and more defined and 3 dimensional (ex: first punch out the insides of letters, then raise the edge of the logo in stages). Or a Smarter logo being lowered from a coast guard chopper.

Gene & Linnea

Sticker use: giant poster board I collect stickers on Sticker suggestion: A giant robot arm pushing on the sticker and appearing to warp it (as in recent video on custom CNC manufacturing).

Anonymous

I like the idea of something Kodak/film related. That was an awesome deep dive for me.

Jonathan Boring

So many good ideas I’ve read here. From a views only standpoint I think the bullet collision is the best option. But if you went the Kodak route you’d have to get their licensing team involved etc. Maybe the coast guard is a good option but then again licensing.

Anonymous

I mentioned this one after the "Impossible shot" video - a parody of the "Bullet Club" logo, with two bullets colliding.

Commander_Dash

I put my stickers on my phone case for that year.

Commander_Dash

Im really liking the ideas people have for the roll of film with developing smarteveryday logo.

Anonymous

Film idea as other people have mentioned would be cool! (Photographer myself). I think it could be cool to show case the colliding bullets

Swimavidly

I got 2 sticker ideas: 1) Just a sticker that says Smarter Every Day so I can promote the channel. 2) A sticker about the Coast Guard, which was the major deep dive (no pun intended) this year.

Anonymous

Being from Rochester, something film related would be really cool!

2023-10-04 16:43:43 What about a the coast guard zig zag search patterns?

What about a the coast guard zig zag search patterns?

Anonymous

My top pick would be something coast guard related, like a victor sierra, or a rescue helicopter or something like that. I loved the coast guard videos. I could get behind something film photography related too, or a prince rupert's drop sticker too.

Anonymous

Or maybe some sort of submarine sticker for the submarine series you did?

Anonymous

Another option. Do a film strip with 3 pictures (or different amount). Each picture is a hilihht from a cool video from this year

Anonymous

I like this idea. Maybe a scuba diver in coastie orange for a small sticker and helicopter for a big one.

Anonymous

Something related to the deep dive serieses from the last year. I put my stickers on my beer fridge and on my laptop.

Anonymous

You said you'd tolerate sketches. How about roboforming with a very extreme perspective? That way the foreground shows the tool pressing (with tons of pressure!) and the background lets the viewer know this is the tip of a robot arm. (How do I get the sketch to you?) Another idea is film running through a hole cutter at a zillion feet per second.

Anonymous

The roll of film with references to the other Videos on the film itself. I'll do a sketch and be back.

Anonymous

I also Put my stickers on my sewing machine case

Ken S

I have a dedicated space for my SED items in my hobby space! I have the Supersonic Baseball in a 3D printed holder and a line of SED stickers that will grow the longer I support you. I might need a bigger wall... but that is a problem for later!! 😁 Thank you for all the great content... and making us Smarter Everyday!! 🤓

Anonymous

I have a vinyl record case that I've turned into my designated sticker place, not got too many on there at the moment, but the more the merrier

Anonymous

Stickers are decorating the fridge at work, as well as my coffee cup just in case anyone wanted to know who vandalized the fridge... lol The submarine deep dive was one of my favorites... so I vote for either a submarine or a coast goard theme for the artwork.

Anonymous

I think a bit of a caricature of you looking up with a lightbulb above your head glowing and small question marks covering the background would be interesting.

Anonymous

A 35MM film framing a Saturn V

Anonymous

I see people suggesting Kodak and Coastguard. Why not make a crossover from it? Maybe a Coastguard vessel on a Wave of Kodak film?

Leroy Johnson

My laptop has my James Webb stocket

Anonymous

ZaroGott's idea of a Coast Guard cutter on a wave of film gets my vote, for sure!! And my stickers find home of honor on my toolboxes, motorcycle luggage, etc. The two JWST ones from last year adorn my laptop (the large one) and the back of this very phone (the small one, obviously)

Anonymous

I'd like to see what didn't work for the bullets. That said, I'm thinking of the two anthropomorphized bullets, looking upon each other w/terrified faces, just before impact.

Anonymous

Coast Guard sticker has my vote

Anonymous

Definitely coast guard. Low angle looking up at the blades and cockpit of the helicopter (starboard forward looking aft), rescue swimmer hanging out the side...

Anonymous

Two bullets just before coming together as they each slice through a film strip, a call back to the bullet through card videos...

Anonymous

Is there a good email we can send sketches to?

Anonymous

Lenticular sticker would be neat. Either bullet vs. bullet collision or prince ruperts drop shattering.

Anonymous

I agree with most people in that the coast Guard sticker is definitely a good option. Maybe a stick in high vis orange and Matte Black? Like a chopper in orange and the perimeter and details In Matte Black

Anonymous

I like the idea of a sticker that looks like a metal stamped version of the SED logo. Could even have other symbols ‘stamped’ in, which relate to this year’s projects.

Ariana Estariel

I would love to see a sticker of the conning tower of the nuclear submarine coming up through the arctic ice. My wife was a civilian with the Navy for 34 years and she worked for the submarine directorate that entire time. We loved watching you go into spaces where she was never able to visit. I would draw it, but I am a terrible artist.

Anonymous

Submarine busting though the ice or fast rise. Coast Guard helicopter rescue.

Anonymous

I'm partial to tool and die. A big bend brake would be fun.

Leo G.

I’d love a deep dive into SpaceX and Starship. Maybe a Starlink satellite sticker?

Anonymous

I loved the JWST space team, I have both on my laptop. See then every day while working. I went to French Guyana to see the Ariane 5 rocket launch JWST. Great memory. For the next one, i'll go for the Coast Guards, great content, with great people too

Anonymous

Coast Guard helicopter rescue, search pattern might be interesting as a sticker. Or maybe just an Osiris-Rex image. Then there's a newer telescope bigger than JWST in the works. Choose wisely!

Anonymous

Can we have a look at the scraped bullet vs bullet design?

Anonymous

Is there a way to opt out of receiving stuff? I'd prefer to have funds go to producing videos rather than stickers...

Anonymous

I don't remember when the series came out, but the life on a submarine and US Coast Guard were awesome. Maybe a sub or a rescue helicopter?

Anonymous

Something about laminar flow

Alec Steinkraus

Coast guard + submarine theme would be cool! Where should we send sketches?

Anonymous

I wonder if some of the search patterns used by the coast guard could be used to make some abstract art that serves as a repeating background, border, or other design elements!

Anonymous

Film/ Old Cameras and Equipment or Prince Rupert's Drop!

Anonymous

a coastguard helicopter could be nice! or a maybe a cartoon sketch of a full pull vehicle (without the mass thing)

Anonymous

I still have the baseball sticker on my laptop :) see it everyday!

David Plunkett

How about an image of a von Kármán vortex street? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%A1rm%C3%A1n_vortex_street

David Plunkett

Alternatively, I've always liked the diagrams of spiral density waves: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Density_wave_theory

Anonymous

If we're going back in time, an exploding jar of sprinkles would be great!

Anonymous

I have the previous stickers on my snowblower and car, and gave the small one to my sister. I love these and am curious if I can get any more of them? For this year I vote it should be a Snatch Block sticker. Because snatch blocks are awesome. And so are stickers!

Anonymous

How do you want us to send you sketches? My ideas are a sticker of the Saturn V control module with the SED logo in the middle or the F-1 Engine. Also love the idea of the Search and Rescue Pattern.

Anonymous

An exploding baseball would be cool as would an illustration in of the colliding vortex rings.

Anonymous

I like to display my unused stickers and the baseball on the the bookshelf at home.

Arnau

I put the sticker on my laptop!

Anonymous

I put the JWST sticker over the apple logo on my phone. And I suggest for this year's sticker: any relevant photo you've taken on kodak film

Anonymous

Please make an option to opt out of receiving stickers. For me it is a waste of money for the channel and environmentally a waste of resources. Thank you.

Anonymous

I put my JWST stickers on two places; one on my computer, and the other on my motorcycle's cowlings! I think a sticker that incorporates some weird optical illusion of a rolling shutter would look sweet! I was just rewatching the video about how the Leika cameras were serviced with those light machines. Maybe the sticker could incorporate a rolling shutter effect on a helicopter blade (since you also released the video about USCG rescue helicopters).

Anonymous

Snatch block FTW! I was also thinking, Prince Rupert's Drop, Laminar Flow, Turbulent flow might all be good inspirations.

Andrew Ferguson

I put one of them on stuff (eg toolbox) around my garage lab.

Anonymous

Nuclear submarine definitely has my vote.

Anonymous

Something from the Submarine deep dive, or a snatch block!

Anonymous

Something related to film :D

Kurtis Moss

Coast guard boat or helicopter, sub, robot arm, or rolling shutter…. Or one or all of the above being captured in the rolling shutter. 🤔

Anonymous

The robot arms pinching metal.... I'm no artist, but yeah that would be cool, maybe one whole and one wiredrame on the other side of the metal being formed.... Dunno, just ac thought

Anonymous

Heli/ Coast gaurd series would be cool!!!

Anonymous

The submarine deep dive was, as far as I was aware, the first of your deep dive series, but each deep dive you're expanding our minds. So, in my head, a cool concept is a submarine, doing a deep dive into a mind, and as it goes down it's passing the coast guard boat (I loved the redirection of the thrust out the back of those) and the helicopter and a manufacturing tool. But I have no idea how that would be visually represented.

Anonymous

My second, less conceptually ambitious idea would be the coast guard boat thrust agility. That was one of the biggest surprises for me and I think it's super cool. It's also a metaphor for being agile of mind, and being able to pivot your ideas when you learn new information.

Joseph Chang

Robot Arm to memorialize your Manufacturing series

Anonymous

a graphical linework design of a series of snatchblocks

Anonymous

Kodak film chemistry laminar flow merging onto the film base filling a 35mm canister. Rectangular format.

Anonymous

Tractor pull has to be the absolute highlight of the year for me

Anonymous

Film negative of an image with a coast helicopter raising their basket with a Navy sub surfaced

Anonymous

whatever you do it could be framed in some kodak film! maybe a play on film with a larger sticker and a smaller sticker that is the small negative. I'll do one of 2 things with the stickers. 1. the best of the best (or duplicates) will go into a binder with card sleeves (like a baseball card collection, but for stickers) 2. put them on my laptop, both top and bottom are full. occasionally i'll swap them out. when this happens i have a few sheets in the back of the binder that I re-stick the stickers on so they never get thrown out and can always be remembered and looked at. i'm a huge sticker nerd if you couldn't tell 😂

Anonymous

I love the bullet vs bullet idea, though it does sound tough to get it to pop. My idea would be to have a kind of spiky explosion in the center of the sticker, with the bullets coming in and going out like light rays. To make it more dynamic, I was thinking of having the bullets travel down the rays as holograms, so that as you tilt the sticker back and forth, you can see the bullets going in and the pieces coming out.

Anonymous

I was waiting by my letterbox for the james Webb stickers, but then never came (despite being a patron for years… I got the baseball sticker). I was so disappointed. Destin, any chance to get a reprint for those who missed out?

Anonymous

Unfortunately I'm behind quite a few videos with University Studies (Computer Engineering at a military academy). But I use the stickers on my laptop, share it with friends (shared my JWST stickers with a friend taking space science). I'd love a sticker from the PRD exploding in epoxy or glass, the tractor pull episode, or somehow capturing the moment the two bullets collided and literally stopped.

Anonymous

A 3D hologram of the prince Rupert’s drop encased in epoxy, maybe a bit exaggerated to how you envisaged it to look

Anonymous

I know that you want it this year. And you have some excellent suggestions so far. - Roboforming was game changer.

Anonymous

Otherwise, I'm a fan of the Prince Rupert's Drop and Laminar Flow.

Anonymous

I love the new series focus on the resurgence of manufacturing. I wonder how the "Smarter Every Day" logo or icon would look on a sticker as if it were stamped from sheet metal, or in the process of being roboformed, or any one of the other technologies you will be presenting in the upcoming videos. Maybe even a combination or some sort of blending of multiple mfg techniques showcasing the versatility of the tech and the skills needed to produce it.

Anonymous

Destin, I don’t want to be ungrateful but rather then you spending money on a design, production, stuffing and shipping why not make a donation to Not Forgotten in all of our names? I have no idea the percentage of last years stickers that sat on a shelf or stuck in a drawer but I bet it is high.

Anonymous

Like many others has mentioned a submarine/rescue/marine theme would fit nicely with this years videos. I put a JWST sticker on my amateur telescope. I’m afraid to stick them to the wrong things so I’m a bit hesitant about placing them. I think about buying some sheet magnet and stick them to that so I can use them as a magnet.

Anonymous

I love the stickers and I've got the JWST stickers on my computer case and the side of my headset. That way I see them regularly and they still haven't lost their shine, both literally and figuratively

Doeke Zanstra

I put two stickers on water bottles, which I both lost unfortunately. The small one, I put on my Bycycle. It makes me smile everyday when I ride it! Kodak should be a good subject for a sticker!

Anonymous

Submarine themed would be awesome. Sad that I never received the last one even after messaging you guys so hopefully this time it will arrive.

Anonymous

What about the coast guard helicopter hoisting an over sized roll of film

Anonymous

Submarine deep dive is my vote! Stickers always go on my gear for all to see

Anonymous

Something Coast Guard related would be cool.

Elmer Fud

Not a sticker theme, but what does the process to make the stickers look like? Would it be an interesting made in America video to go to the factory that makes the stickers when they are making yours? (assuming you can find somewhere domestic to make them)

Anonymous

Colliding bullets would be a great sticker. My 2 stickers are on the back of my car - with room for many more!

Matthew J Palka

I keep thinking about a sticker celebrating a video series. Like a laminar flow one.

Anonymous

KODAK / FILM

Anonymous

Something to do with helicopters or a sea rescue lifeline diver thing

Jeff Carter

I like re-visiting the video about "How Birds Do the Thing." There's something quite mesmerizing about Boids Algorithm, which simulates the flocking behavior of birds, that makes one wants to watch in awe and wonder for an extended period of time to see it taking new form. A hologram sticker that makes a flock of birds appears to fly around when the sticker is tilted or viewed from different angles would be really cool.

Anonymous

Something with rockets and fuel injectors would be nice! My JWST sticker is on the back of my laptop

Randy Coffee

Bullet on a Bullet. Has to be. I mean that’s iconic and incredibly hard to do. Would be a great sticker.

Anonymous

Film strip (or two) with an image in each frame that references the best videos from the year?

Anonymous

Submarine or the bullet thing. Or go old school and make a sticker from one of your iconic experiments.

Anonymous

It’s not a sticker, but I think an actual Kodak film negative would be incredible! Ideally a developed negative with a picture of one of the Smarter Every Day signs. I realize that may not be financially feasible, but it’s a really tangible link to the content so I will throw it out there anyhow :)

Anonymous

I want a throwback sticker of Destin and chicken head tracking. Also I put my sticker on an igloo lunch pale that I take on vacation. It only houses the most nearest and dearest of stickers for me.

Anonymous

I'd love something about the scientific method or the engineering process that you deploy in all your videos, the curiosity, and breaking things down. However, I'm strongly against bullets or guns, as I'd not display those until America gets its handle on gun violence. Despite your video being very scientific and non-violent, it still represents a whole lot of bad in the current world. I cannot imagine that a sticker you come up with containing guns or bullets that will be instantly recognizable as non-violent and science-related.

John Hammond

Go old skool - backwards bike!!

Anonymous

I like the idea of an NASA Apollo/Gemini style patch, but turned into a sticker.

Anonymous

I want a sticker of Destin and Tory Bruno in front on a rocket. Cause rockets are cool.

Anonymous

Side profile of the USCG Dolphin tail rotor with SED Search and Rescue lettering. Orange and white will be flashy. Stickers go on my iPad folio case.

Anonymous

Manufacturing, either with roboforming or sheet metal, would be a good one, given this year's theme.

Anonymous

I have a sticker on my phone case. I like the idea of of film, the setup could be 3 or 4 shots first Kodak second Coast guard thread the bullet intersect.

Anonymous

Didn't know elmer was into SMED but hey, anyways, I would love to see this, so many Businesses from Maine to Cali print stickers

Anonymous

A little late to comment, and I love many of the ideas here already! So many good ones from both recent and classic SED videos! My first thought was Stunt Cat from cat physics SED#58 and I was going to do a sketch, but while rewatching the video there's already a great drawing in the intro :)

Anonymous

Destin my guy!!! You’ve probably already made a call but something Film-based would be fantastic! Number one: It would make for cool stickers. Number two: it may not be your most viewed content this year but you did do an entire series on it! Buuuut then again bullets hitting bullets could be sweeeeet too 🔥🔥🔥

Anonymous

I have one sticker on my water bottle and another on my fridge! Love them.

Anonymous

A sticker of the goldfish with the bullet in the mouth, referencing one of the earlier smarter every day videos, would be a great concept.

Anonymous

Perhaps shockwaves off a supersonic baseball. Like a Schlieren image but done graphically stylized. Maybe even headed toward a shape of a mayo jar.

RAD Donato

How about a holographic "pinched" triangle made to look like the sheet you featured in your "Pinching Titanium" video?

Anonymous

For one sticker, what about 3 frames on 35mm film with the sprocket holes, where the frames show the bullet hitting bullet (simplified drawings, of course)? The first frame could be the bullets on approach at the edges of the frame, the second could be right before impact, and the third could be right after impact. This would incorporate SED 286-288 and the other Kodak related videos. Only 3 frames to reduce the overall size of the one sticker

Josh Patterson

He hasn't done one big video this year but recalling a few of the smaller but still very interesting videos he made this year, that is an awesome idea Luke!! (Although I guess getting to see Kodak's operation IS a pretty big deal!)

Edward Burton

Any of the last ones available? I'm moving into my short bus and lost them.

Anonymous

I'm leaning toward a JWST-themed sticker because of the amazing discoveries and contributions to science this year alone!

Anonymous

Nobody sticker dedicated to Ham The first chimpanzee in space

My sticker goes on my HardHat 😁 I moved addresses and just updated it so I hope I get it I love the new design I just saw it on your most recent video (as of today)

Jim Ransom

I noticed in the slo mo’s of the baseball emerging from the baseball cannon, the tape departs well before the baseball emerges. That got me wondering about the vacuum pump you use. My grandfather, John H Ransom was the first to commercialize depositing elements on to parts in a vacuum, back in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Initially he deposited nickel onto aluminum butterfly shaped camera shutters for Panavision. Their cameras were used I think in all Hollywood movies. The company grew to produce all kinds of optics for the military and JPL for example. Just as I know you are proud of your Dad for his contributions to JWST, I am proud of my Dad and Grandfather for their accomplishments including the manufacture of much of the optics in Hubbles wide field camera. Optics never became my chosen field but I do remember as a young kid, (60’s and 70’s) the vacuum pumps for the coating chambers. As I recall there was a conventional pump downstream of diffusion pumps (They employ a Venturi configuration to get get vacuums down to I think less than a couple of microns Hg. My dad would always say, nowhere close to a vacuum in outer space but still quite a vacuum. It would be interesting to record time between the tape delaminating and the ball emerging and compare results to a more sophisticated barrel seal (piece of sacrificial glass?) and a diffusion pump created vacuum. Maybe even a vacuum chamber accumulator at the end of the barrel. Ideally the goal would be to have the baseball rupture the seal instead of the slug of air compressed in front of it. Ok, I challenge you to achieve Mach 2 at the same 400? psi pressure. Maybe even construct a plastic support cup for the ball and a seal to the barrel. From a safety standpoint, like an aircraft I pray that the gun has been analyzed for a cycle life limit. All should be hydrostatically tested on a scheduled basis. I knew someone who witnessed a nitrogen bottle failure. It was an instant bang penetrating four B52 hangar walls. They didn’t even know what happened until following the four hangar holes to the ruptured bottle. .

Jared Jobes

have stickers been sent out yet?

Dale McDonald

I too have been wondering about Stickers.... As a new member I received my Bassball last month (which is super cool) and thought I might get an extra surprise, but sadly, no. I know how busy you are Destin, so I don't want to this to seem like a demand, I'll happily wait however long it takes, just curious is all.

Emma S

I just got my stickers! Is that Reepicheep the Mouse on the envelope??

Cris Thomas

Eclipse sticker!!

Super duper respectfully. Not that the sticker is why I choose to support this channel. It’s just something I get excited about to express my pride. Is there an update on the stickers?
