We finally learn the backstory between Mai and Maki and yes...our opinion of Mai has definitely changed. Or rather we understand why she's the way she is, but still, we don't approve of her attitude! Oh and Maki is so badass, you guys!?!?! O.O

That sure is a heavy episode. I can understand that Mai's misery is really bad, but I think she has no right to keep others at the bottom.

Don't know if this comes up in the movie or manga, but the one thing I'm almost certain about is that the Zenin clan gets in Maki's way EXPECTING her to over come it as a test of her worthiness. The clan leader specifically said he would put her through trials "befitting" her goal of returning and taking over. The clan (or at least the leader) doesn't hate them, and Mai doesn't understand what's really going on, because she has no interest in that world enough to read between the lines. Maki probably doesn't care, or at least only undertands it as an obstacle.

Aaah ok, that wasn't how I took it from the scene in the anime, but one way or the other, it makes sense! If she thinks she's worthy, she's gotta prove it (as harsh as that may sounds, it's also a valid response to someone who aspires to si much)
