Ivar & Ragnar together are amazing..they both joke and have the same banter so when he calls him an old man or Ragnar calls him cripple boy that's just their banter. Ragnar underestimated his son at first but realised his true potential and how special he is in Kattegat hence why he took him. Ragnar would never take Ivar with him to die, he loves his sons too much. More than Lagertha or Floki, Athlestan...Lagertha attacking was stupid and petty, shes going after 4 out of 5 of Ragnars sons mother, if she isnt gonna kill them then shes asking for trouble. Ivar really needed this journey and time with his father, hes learning so much and notice hes always on his fathers side, he makes jokes but that's just them, hes like s1 Ragnar making jokes & taking the mick...& I believe what Bjorn did to rollo was a test to seeing hes still Viking, it wasnt a punishment. If he survives the gods want him to go. Also see how heartbroken Ivars face was after realising hes gonna watch his father be hurt or worse. Ragnars look at the end shows hes always has a plan and should be feared. He may be only one man but hes an amazing man who has great strategy & broughyhis cripple son who's even better. & I think Ragnar didnt necessarily need the men for his revenge plan to fight but he did need them to be able to sail west with Ivar.

Rollo was Keelhauled. Bjorn didn't really want to kill him or he would've done it while the ship was sailing on the ocean. Keelhauling as one of the most gruesome torture methods of the age of piracy, as not focused only on the prospect of drowning (which was a real possibility) but more on the injuries the sailor received while hitting the bottom hull of the ship that was often overgrown with barnacles and other sea life. The cuts received from such close contact could not only cause severe injuries and blood loss, but also the loss of limbs and even in ome cases decapitation. The speed of movement while underwater was often crucial in determining how much injuries will sailor get. If the rope was pulled more slowly, weight on the sailor would cause him to go deeper and narrowly miss the barnacles on the hull. But if he was pulled faster, the sailor would remain in contact with the hull during entire underwater travel, causing incredible injuries.
