So goes the old Polish proverb, and home for Jan Sobieski was the whole of his Kingdom, his realm, his Commonwealth. Across that Commonwealth, and the entire continent, people would warm themselves by their fires and tell stories of Jan Sobieski's bravery, of his might, of his valour. Of how he rode on angel's wings to save Vienna, and how he smashed the fearsome Turk against that city's walls.

Yet, incredible as that scene was, there is so much more to the story of Jan Sobieski than merely relieving the siege of Vienna in 1683.
