The Battle Frontier - Pokemon Podcast

I've been reading the manga ever since the 1st season ended and I have to say the anime take a lot of "artistic freedom" with Aqua and Kanna's relationship and it was very obvious in this episode: first, when Kanna suggest helping him with a suitcase he reject her at first and tell everyone he's going to see Akane which makes Kanna upset but then he ask her "what about tomorrow?" and they agree. from there the order of events is actually flipped - first is Aqua and Akane's date and then Aqua and Kanna's date with 3 exception: the coffee he got her is in a "to go" cup so the heart in the cream doesn't exist in the manga, while in the steak house when Kanna ask him what about his relationship with Akane he acknowldege he saw Akane but that they were interru, and the whole scene where Kanna arrives home and rant about she "got her hopes up" doesn't exist in the manga, it's just a story teller bubble that said he got her to her place safely.

Must have gone to a "meh" Brazilian steakhouse then. The two I've gone to were awesome.

Joeh out here whispering in Akane's ear like the Green Goblin.

We are getting to the point in the story where my unease for Akane really started to build. Using the spot of her suicide attempt to have the discussion about breaking up is wild. She can out play Kana in ways that are unsettling, especially when Kana doesnt even know the game is being played.

Yeah she be mad devious in the most subtle ways. Like... on one hand its very wholesome to clearly convey that the reason this relationship exists is cuz he saved her life and she owes him. On the other hand, that's an easy way to guilt someone into not ending the relationship. I think it came across as more of the former for Aqua... but that doesn't mean she didn't intend the latter. Who knows. Shes a cool ass fucking character. That being said, I like both of them... Cuz Kana really just brings out parts of Aqua that nobody else does. It's shown time and time again that when he wants to relax and not worry about his troubles he chooses to spend time with Kana. Two times that come to mind are when Akane impersonates Ai in S1 and he doesn't know what to feel... so he skips school with Kana so that he could just talk to someone casually. Then she helped him even further by actually talking to him about romantic feelings... which of course she did because shes infatuated with him but it doesn't change that it helped him process his feelings. The second time was this episode/end of last ep. He finds out his revenge quest is "over" and he feels lost and confused... and the first thing he thinks to do is to go on a date with Kana. Because he knows he can talk to her and just be himself. (Not to mention how hard he tried to make her have a good time on that date, holy) I'm team Kana simply because I think they both feel the bond it's just that Aqua has never been in a position to commit to that (until currently) and Kana (in typical Tsun fashion) doesn't know how to vocalize her feelings - especially considering he is "officially" Akane's boyfriend every time shes gotten the courage to be more honest with him. The two of them feel like a burgeoning romance that neither has the real time for (even if it's clear that Kana *will* make that time). I do think Akane and Aqua are an excellent team. But they said it themselves this episode. Akane just wants to help shoulder his burden and help him in ways that others would never agree to (even killing a man if neccasary). She doesn't really understand if her feelings are anything more than that. Is it romantic? I mean this is the first time shes never even vocalized they havent done anything romantic in the relationship. We certainly didn't get to see her struggle with that feeling (which we did with Kana a lot). Is it sexual? Again neither of them have moved in that direction despite having very good reasons for being together and for so long. So what is it? I love Akane's characterization and she is a very close 2nd favorite in the series for me (under Kana barely)... but I personally think they make great *friends* and more then that excellent *partners in crime* (or vigilantes, kind of?).

Rude to our best girl Ai. But fair. Honestly as a non-manga reader it was something I considered heavily when we got the ep before this and revealed he had a half-bro. I was like "and what if this is another Ai-kid?" that being said I think it highly unlikely given what we know of Ai. She wanted kids desperately. We know that the twins are her first just based on S1 Ep1. I doubt theres any chance she has kids. Also-also when we take into account his age its impossible cuz we know the twins are the first kids if not the only ones. That being said, she still could be the one that snuck into his bed. That doesn't change that he'd still be a cheater... but yeah. He could have been a married man who was caught up in a "magical" girl. (Ai)

How would he be a cheater? He's not in a relationship w/ anyone is he, other than casual sex basically?
