After watching this episode and the following episode from the S2 of the original adaptation, I did some research and I learned that this arc of the current adaptation is now covering the skipped Vol. 4, while the original adaptation has covered Vol. 1, 2, 3 and 5. I think that I'll be watching the rest of the original S2 after finishing the current adaptation. I do sense the creepiness of the town from the silent staring and the abrupt resuming to conversations among the townfolks. Maybe the males and females are under some sort of standoff and therefore they are separated?

Yep, the last few episodes of this season is new content. If we get a new season, it should open up with the arc that ended the original season 2.

At least being a miller is a secure job, because it's needed by most everyone, and the landlord of the region rly values reliable & trustworthy millers (because if they are not trustworthy, they might be stealing shit from you since they are the ones in charge of collecting tax in relation to wheat, in addition to the actual taxmen (often minor clerical dudes, obviously) who collect taxes in general etc), because while yes even if any brainlet w/ basic knowhow of how to operate a waterwheel-powered mill could do the job, you'd rather not risk hiring new people constantly over someone who has a proven track record of trust & taxation done correctly etc. Also villagers can't rly start fucking w/ shit since the waterwheel milling structure is the property of the local lord of the region, so if they try to fuck w/ shit they will be directly fucking w/ the lord, which is obviously a no-no given how complex waterwheel mechanisms are given the time period etc. Also this town clearly has a local snake deity or w/e, given the door clacker is an intricate snake pattern one, along w/ that highly ornate stuffed snake w/ vine decor etc on the table
