Not sure if everyone will guess it just from the gif, so I will tell it officially: the next core I'm working on is the WonderSwan + WS Color.

All the possible systems I looked at recently have one thing in common: they are kind of obscure and there is very few information available.

As you may already know, I'm not the typical researcher, so knowing what to do is important for me and my motivation. The WonderSwan fulfills that quiet well.

First, the system isn't extremly complex. The CPU being kind of x86 is by far the worst part in terms of complexity, but honestly: if there is a lot of information out there for any CPU architecture, it's x86.

Then there is decent information available for registers, video, sound and DMA.

And most important: Near(Byuu) has done awesome work on the WonderSwan part of Higan. An emulator that is cycle accurate? Doing rendering on a per-pixel basis instead of scanline based? This source of information is invalueable!

So as always: I started with writing my own software emulator to understand the system. It's only about 1 week since I started, so don't expect too much, but I am happy to have the first sign of life now.

Next update will hopefully show the first game running.

Have fun!
