I posted this commission to Facebook a few years back, to mostly positive responses, but I did get one that irked me. It said simply: "Why are this woman's pants torn? What purpose does that serve?" Now realistically, I understand the mentality this is coming from; it's the whole "exploitation" and "objectification" thing. It should come as no surprise that I reject that nonsense utterly, and not just as it applies to my own work, or the depiction of women in art and media. It applies to images of men as well. Are men exploited by sexualized images of them? Of course not. Are really handsome and well-built men genetic freaks for being so much better looking than me? Absolutely. But I don't hear anyone complaining about that. Why are that woman's pants torn? That is a really, really stupid question.
