     My sketching skills have really atrophied lately. Sketching from imagination, I mean. Everything I do these days is on deadline, so I don't have a lot of time to just sketch; everything is focused on getting to that final image as directly as possible. Skills dull with lack of use, though, and my sketching sucks right now. I need to do a lot more of it, and--no surprise here--learn to loosen up. Take this entry, for example. This was supposed to be just a simple sketch, all loose linework, no gray tones or smoothing. It obviously didn't wind up that way. Maybe I should start a sketchbook with the strict understanding that nothing in it will ever be seen by anyone but myself. Kind of like a diary. Loosen up by giving myself permission to mess up. I don't know. Maybe.
