I didn't go to Comicon this year, as I haven't for quite a few years now. I always had a love/hate relationship with that particular con. It's a bitch to do--driving ten hours, dealing with the bullshit at check-in, working out transportation, lugging around boxes of comics and work-related stuff...not to mention, just getting around at that con is a bit of a nightmare. The dealers' room is immense, a pretty good walk when nearly empty (which it almost never is); an Olympic event when filled with attendees. In short, it's exhausting. I only ever cared about seeing other artists' work, anyway; all the huge media crap meant nothing to me, and even years ago it was taking over the event. I can only imagine what it's like these days.
I recently did a local con, which was way smaller, but also less of a headache. And I got to go home to my cats afterward, instead of collapsing in a criminally overpriced hotel room and just worrying about them. We hit Monsterpalooza a couple of years back, and except for the drive, that was pretty fun. Lots of amazing artwork. I recommend it, if you like that sort of thing.
So did anyone here do ComiCon this year? If so, what did you think?
