What's this, you ask? What's with this low-res scan of a single page of an old short (not to mention with placeholder dialogue)? Well, it's because I'm interested in where characters come from, not just their official designs, but their roots. For instance, Abbey has been around in one form or another for around thirty years, attached to various projects. Meg was originally an adolescent in a sci-fi novel that had nothing to do with a fantasy Old West setting.

Here, we have a glimpse of what I thought was Brutus' first appearance--or what would become Brutus, anyway.  But then, while doing some cleaning, I found a scrap of legal paper with designs for some plush toys I was thinking of doing waayyy back.  Not only does it give an indication of where my interests lay even then, but--as I'm sure you've already noticed--if you look at the figure on the left, you'll see a familiar face staring back at you. He's gained a good deal of weight since then, but that's Brutus, alright. I had no idea the design was in my head that far back. Just thought that was kinda funny.

Oh, and attentive readers might recognize the pumpkin-headed gent next to him as the nightmare-manipulating Smiling Jack, from the summer-camp- killer story arc of Boneyard. I even did a sculpt of him, before there even was a Boneyard.
